RE: Alabama ~ As patriotic a State as they come

A very nice tribute, Bryan, to those who have fought for this great country and to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We live in a VERY special country and what burns me is that so many don't even know it and take it for granted. I enjoyed your pics of the USS Alabama. The South Dakota class BBs, along with the Washington class BBs, were the workhorses of the fleet. They were smaller and slower than the Iowa class BBs, but fought in more battles than the larger and faster Iowas. We will be camping this weekend rather than attending parades. I've spent so many Memorial Day's on deployment when I was in the Navy that I'm still playing catch up on enjoying the holidays with my wife.

RE: First trip report - Capitol Reef NP and Kodachrome Basin

Awesome pics from one of my favorite areas. I'm glad you're enjoying the new AF. She sure looks sweet in those shots. The rock formations and hoodoos throughout that region are simply amazing. Kodachrome has some of the best. I am perplexed by one comment you made, though. How is it a "Mormon thing" that the campground was chosen at that location. :h

RE: Must Have Boondocking Survival Items?

Propane lanterns are nice and very bright, but I prefer solar LED portable lanterns. No fossil fuel needed.

RE: 10 years on the Truck Camper Forum

Ten years as an RV.NETTER next May. Started off with travel trailers and moved on to a TC last year. A great forum.

RE: Kyack

I went with inflatables so I would not have to put them on top. Has some drawbacks (set up time and take down) but I love the kayaks and the ease of storage. I have been thinking of putting the single inside for faster to water time. Measured the tandem and no way would it fit. I don't think that I would do a ridged kayak inside as it would wear when rubbing. x2. I have a Sea Eagle 9 ft inflatable and love it and will soon be getting a Sea Eagle inflatable Kayak. RE: First trip report - Part 1, Valley of the Gods, Utah

Excellent trip report of one of my favorite places in Utah. Sorry you had the tire issues, but now you're prepared for any more that may happen again on the road.

RE: Do I need title/plate/registration/etc in Arizona?

Cool, great to see another AZ truck camper owner on the forums. Are you buying new or used? There are three camper dealers in the valley and a couple up in Prescott/PV. I bought mine in Prescott Valley. Good luck in your search.

RE: Thank you all. I have my first PU Camper

Nice combo, very sweet! Looks like that pic was taken at the Valley of the Gods in s. Utah. How well did your combo do going through those two big washes?

RE: roof vent questions

I've restored two vintage Airstream travel trailers, so I have some knowledge of what you're trying to do. Have you considered cutting the openings to the standard 14x14 size? Not sure if your framing will allow that, but that might be something you want to consider.

RE: !000 nights in our TC, all boondocking and traveling

Congratulations, Sleepy. Hope you and your wife have many, many more. I look forward to the time when I can spend that much time on the road.

RE: Lifeline AGM Battery Upgrade

Mike, any recommendations on where to buy Concorde/Lifeline batteries in your area? Did you have to order it or were they in stock? I am coming through on my annual trip north in late July and I would like to have one ready for my rig. You think your compartment is small? Mine is only 8.5" deep. All I can get into it is one Group 31 battery. Sure! I'll send you a PM.

RE: Lifeline AGM Battery Upgrade

I have 3 group 31 Lifelines that will be 6 years old in December. I just like the way they work vs lead acid types. Expensive, but i will likely buy more when these finally go. Six years is great. I'm curious to know how long AGMs last with regular use.

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Replaced the Group-24 wet cells with two 6 volt Lifeline AGM batteries.

RE: Lifeline AGM Battery Upgrade

Actually I believe you lost ground with the swap. Those 6 volt batteries are 220 Ah each@6VDC for a total of 220 Ah@12VDC. Unless your old batteries were only 80Ah each that is. Then you gained some ground Yes, the Group-24s were 80 amp hours each, so I gained 60 amp hours total.

Lifeline AGM Battery Upgrade

I just replaced my two Group-24 wet-cell batteries with two 6 volt Lifeline AGM batteries. I'm really thrilled with the upgrade as it increases my capacity from 160 amp hours to 220 amp hours. SWEET!!! Good thing AGM's can be mounted on their side, or the install wouldn't have worked for my truck camper. Full details can be found at the link below: Lifeline AGM Battery Upgrade

RE: Boondocking pet peeves, I really hate it when...

I'm into Astronomy, so when I boondock, I'm trying to get away from stray light. I setup camp, setup the Telescope, and then someone else comes in and sets up camp nearby with a huge campfire. Aaargh. If someone pulls in close to me, I go over to them as quick as I can and tell them I'm doing astronomy and need darkness at night, so if they aren't ok with that, please move or at minimum put your RV between me and your campfire with your lights facing away. My other pet peeve is 4 wheelers tearing up and down the road kicking huge amounts of dust up around me. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m34/samalmkar/IMG_3803-2.jpg Wow, Steve. That's an impressive setup you have there for viewing the stars. I also see you're a truck camper owner, too. How large is your trailer for hauling that gear? Just curious.

Congrats, that's pretty cool. Torklift is a great company with quality products.

RE: What is boondocking and how to do this.

Welcome. The stickies at the top of this forum have lots of information and links for beginners, especially the tips and tricks thread. Good luck!
