RE: Richardson Grove Campground, Gaberville, Ca.

X2 on Ancient Redwoods. The weather there is better than at Riverwalk, unless you like the cold wind and fog. Ancient Redwoods is on the north end of Avenue of the Giants.

RE: Arizona Trip

As long as you're in the area, you might want to stop at Meteor Crater. Right off I-40 and a RV park in the vicinity. North of the GC is Lake Powell. Nice RV park and they have tour boats that feature interesting scenery.

RE: Out West

I'd get to I-80 and head for Yellowstone. Then to the northern CA coast (Eureka area)along Hwy 101 and spend a few days in the Redwoods. Then head east on I-80 to NV and pickup Hwy 50 to Utah. Hit Zion, Bryce, Arches, and Canyonlands (a couple of days each). From there you can continue either to Colorado or the Grand Canyon. that's a lot to cover.
The reason I recommend the coast Redwoods; Good weather, lots of places to camp that are not packed. It's something very unique and beautiful. Most of the Utah places will be in their high season, with milder weather than summer.

RE: Good Sam Roadside Assistance

I'm very happy with the GS ERS. Used it last month coming home from AZ. Had a oil line leak. The mobile mechanic GS dispatched diagnosed problem and replaced line.

RE: Tow Bar breaking while towing

Unfortunately, I have no details. I just heard from a friend, that on their way home from AZ, their tow bar broke. He saw the Saturn Vue in his mirror and was able to stop with no damage to the car or MH. Had a dickens of a time getting the part of the tow bar that was still attached unhooked, due to nasty binding and angles.

RE: Yosemite to hwy 101

I think you're sending mixed messages. If your heading to Garberville then the 99, to I5, to 20, to 101 is the preferred route. If you're going to Pacifica, that's a different route than you first stated and will take you over the Golden Gate bridge. Olema puts you past 101 and on Hwy 1. Hwy 1 from Olema to Ft Bragg is another route entirely. Still have to get back to 101.

RE: Best Route Redding to the coast - avoid 299?

The route you take should take into account where you're coming from. If you come north from Sacramento, then Hwy 20 from I5 to Hwy 101 is the prefered route. If you come into Redding from the east then Hwy 299 is your best bet. The Redwoods are divided into a few sections. South of Eureka is Avenue of the Giants. A little more inland and usually warmer than from Eureka to Crescent City. Even in summer, warm clothes are advised.

RE: using #99 as an alternate to the five.

As stated, 99 between Red Bluff and Chico is 2 lanes. The scenery between Chico and Sacramento isn't that much different. I'd stay on I-5.

RE: How long to cross border over by Yuma.

One way to cut down the wait time is to pay $5.00 per head and ride a richshaw back over the border. That took about a half hour, instead of 1-2 hours. However, this method is also subject to lines. Also depends on how many rigs are running. Last Wednesdaay there were five rigs each carrying from 3 to 6 customers.

RE: Flat towing a 2012 Honda Fit

I'm also ready to tow my Fit. Since this is a lightweight vehicle is a suplementary breaking system necessary?
I use a Unified tow brake for my CRV. I don't use anything on my FIT. You should decide for yourself.
I have a 12V feed from the MH to my toads to keep the batteries charged.

RE: Yosemite Valley Camping in a 40ft Motor Home

I have stayed 3 times with my 40' motorhome. Twice in site 27, once in 36. Both in Lower Pines. Of the two sites, 36 was the easiest to park in. each stay was in Sept/early Oct. Never been successful with reservations during summer.
I've surveyed the Lower Pines and North Pines CGs and would not try to get my 40 footer into a space rated for a 35'.

RE: Easy 1st time - towing Honda Fit

It all depends on your reciever heigth. I don't use anything for my Fit, but use a 4" to get higher when I tow my CRV.

RE: Good Sam's Club and Pilot/Flying J Card

I am currently involved in a lawsuit. Someone STOLE my identity and it has ruined Their life.
If you steal my identity YOUR GONNA HAVE TO KEEP IT.
Identity theft is no small matter. The system sucks, begining with Medicare card which you have to give for any medical visit, so you have to carry it with you. They tell you to not carry your SS card, but your medicare card which you must carry has the same number. And the beat goes on,on,on.

RE: Good Sam's Club and Pilot/Flying J Card

Wow, I better cancell my wifes Macys, Penneys, etc. credit cards. Oh yes, auto insurance, life insurance, retirement and bank accouns, Master Card and Debit card, gone. Going to be tough to get rid of the mortgage and auto loan, but what the heck. All are subject to idenity thieves. Last but not least. don't forget your computer and smart phone with all thoase apps which are subject to hackers.
Now, if I can just find a hole to hide in, It'll be OK.
Seriously, I'm not ready to go back to doing everything with cash. So I will try to use good judgement as to what my credit needs are. I don't need someone telling me the dangers of idenity theft, we hear about it all the time. If the OP didn't feel comfortable with the Pilot/Flying J application, simply do not apply.

RE: Exhaust brake

I wouldn't have a diesel with out one. they should be required on all diesels
My first diesel didn't have one. It had the 6 speed Allison transmission so I added the US gear unit and it worked very well.

RE: GOOD SAM DELUXE ? Changes?

Guess I'm the opposite of the previous poster. Both Good Sam and CW cards, GS vehicle insurance and ERS. CW is opening a store in Redding so that works for me. I slao have used several of the $5.00 discount coupons. I think thes new features are a positive step toward real benefits. I also use the Flying J / Pilot frequent fueler card when I can.

RE: GOOD SAM DELUXE ? Changes?

The Pilot/Flying J can be a discount card or a credit card depending on which one you have. I just used my RV card in the truck lane. As stated already, simply insert the card, pump fuel, then pay inside with your credit card. This saved ma a bunch of time since the RV lanes were slamed. I was in and out in 10 minutes. I'm not interested in the charge card. The $125.00 charge limit at the RV island doesn't apply at the truck lanes when using the RV frequent fueler card.
