RE: 295 Richmond VA Bypass any better?

Hope this isn't too late. 295 has some good and bad spots...they are working on it in places heading south at the bridge across the james river.. and watch out for radar around hopewell (south after you cross the james river).... trucks are restricted in the far left lane so that is the smoothest... 95 thru Richmond is going thru bridge construction/replacement.. nights and weekends is construction time..95 down to one lane in both directions.. major backups occur. you should check the VDOT site for construction times... I live near 295/95 on the north side of Richmond.. when we head south I use 295 and stay in the left lane as much as traffic will let me.

RE: WiFi as you GO?

Thanks everyone.....actually I have a blsckberry thru work.. which I tethered...but the company stop us from using the option... wife still has an old flip phone, trying to talk her into upgrading... and you know when you go in to update the phone, the plan you have that is 5 years old is not available any more and the next best is $20 more a month. Just weighing my options. All I really need it for is work.. so if they won't pay anymore... I won't work anymore while camping!!
Thanks again

RE: WiFi as you GO?

Thanks, the mifi option was what I was looking into... The free spots are usually 20 miles away... but we have spots that do have 3g cell service.
Anyone have any idea what a 200 or 500mb plan would handle? as far as service before you go over your limit?
Thanks

WiFi as you GO?

Anyone come across a WiFI hot spot that you can pay as you go?? Don't want to add a data plan to the cell as we would only us a hot spot in areas that don't have free wifi. Maybe 8 times a year... Is there a pay as you go provider??

RE: Huntington Beach State Park, SC - WIFI at site?

There a couple weeks ago... wifi only available at the check in/camp store. We would pull up in the parking lot and set in the truck.
There is also a picnic table up on the 3rd level you can set at.

RE: Post your tow vehicle pics here

Had an 01 F250 SD, 7.3. I've always had Ford...but they just could not leave the motors alone.
So here's the replacement. 2011 2500HD, I really like the Duramax and Allison transmission.

2011 2500 HD Allison Tranny question

Recently, moved from an 01 F250 with the 7.3 to the 6.6 DRMX and Allison tranny.
The 2500 now has about 4k miles on it and doing great, I have not driven a chevy with the Allison tranny before this one, so I need some input on what I think is the tranny shifting hard.... which may be normal for the Allison.
Without towing anything, the tranny has a definate down shift coming to a stop.
Also, accelerating it tends to stay in first or 2nd (gear) at low speeds..15-25 mph.. almost ike a straight drive tranny. In reverse. the same feeling when backing... feels like a straight drive...once above 35 or so shifting seems normal..
I do not have the exhaust brake on...if I did.. what I am feeling is more noticable..
If this is normal, I am completly OK with it.. I like a tranny with positive shifts... it's just so much different from the F250 I drove for 10 years....
I really want to avoid taking this into a Dealer......
Thanks for you input

RE: Mrytle Beach for bike week 2012

We don't ride but ended up at MB during bike week in 2010, quite a few tow haulers ended up in Huntington Beach State Park.... just South of MB.
They do have some sites that have FHU... not sure about the pull thrus...or the length you need.
People had their bikes at the campsites also.

RE: Virginia to add Tolls on I-95

A few years back there WAS a Toll Plaza on 95... about midway thru Richmond.... Taking 295 around the east may save the toll cost..but then spend the money on fuel...
I used to think VA roads where nice... a recent trip to SC proved me wrong. VA roads are terrible.... if the $$$$ will improve go to the roads.. I'll pay it...again

RE: campgrounds on 95 near Richmond? + or - 100 miles

Depending on your timeframe you may have a problem finding somthing available due to the NASCAR Race... Pocahontas is few miles off 95.. taking 288.
Lightfoot..is way off, 45 mins East on 64.
There is a campground at Kings Dominion at 30 and 95, just north. There is also Americamps just North of 295...

RE: pulling my fth wheel on the beach

Google something like RV on beach... if you want to see some video's. There are quite a few that do.
Personally I would never do it.
I do go out on the beach quite often with the Truck when we are at the Outer Banks. As far as tire pressure... I would not go below 20lbs if that... 10lbs... you may end up with the tire bead seperating from the wheel.. then a flat you may not get aired back up....
Hope all goes well if you go thru with it.
