RE: 07 Yukon XL using oil towing

FYI - I've had a 3/4T YukonXL with an 8.1L engine since new in 2002, it now has 157K miles on it. It has used a quart of oil every ~1500 miles since the day I bought it whether towing or not. When I first got it I took it in 2-3 times but got tired of them having my vehicle for two days each time and telling me they couldn't find anything. I've always used Mobil 1, and carry and extra quart in the truck and another in the TT. I don't like it but have learned to live with it. I hope my next vehicle (diesel in 1-2 yrs) won't have this problem. For what it's worth, I wouldn't feel the same about using a quart every 100 miles! Good luck on figuring it out.

RE: Do you have your "Dream" RV? How many did it take to find it

We're on #3 and pretty happy with it, only the second TV. Of course, the next RV and TV will be "the one's"

RE: Carrying water in TT

What Mitch said, I almost always travel full and would hate to have the first thing into camp be stopping before camp and filling. With regard to filling etiquette, I agree with 'liberating' the water supply if someone's so inconsiderate to leave while filling a huge supply. And much as I understand the frustration and desire to prank them as poster stated, I certainly can't condone such a nasty response. I certainly understand it, but hope I wouldn't be that mean (not that I haven't been at times, but can't say I'm proud of that...)

RE: Yellowstone Bound in July; Itenerary suggestions?

Enjoy your trip, you'll love it. Traffic in the park will probably be bad as others mentioned. We went 3 years ago in mid-June and had a great time. Stayed at a park just south of Yellowstone between Teton and Yellowstone, they had lots of room. Horseback riding too if you want, but basically a place to day-trip between Yellowstone and Grand Teton from. We approached through ND Badlands, very pretty, and then the north entrance. We exited through the east entrance. The steep decline out made my DW nervous but I absolutely LOVED the view. In fact, after the decline, the Shoshonee (sp?) valley drive to Cody was some of the most beautiful country I've seen. From there drove to Devil Tower, Custer, Mt Rushmore, etc. Given you're taking a reverse route I don't think I'd recommend the east entrance climb, but you might look into it. As others said, a week will go quickly between Yellowstone, Grand Teton and Jackson. Less time will just skim the surface and leave you looking forward to returning. I'm envious :)

RE: 2002 Chevy Suburban 3/4 ton 8.1 4.10 towing in O/D

We have a 2002 Yukon XL, 8.1L w/ 3.73 rear end. Our TT weighs ~9K and I use Tow/Haul in Drive all of the time and let the tranny choose. Works great and pulls effortlessly.

RE: GM Changes?

Here's a link I found that I'm sure is related. I misunderstood, it's a staggered shutdown across 3 plants of 6wks it sounds like. http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2012/01/gms-mark-reuss-talks-plant-shutdowns.html Still curious as what changes/improvements will come...

RE: GM Changes?

I might have misunderstood. The CEO was talking at a NPR lunch speech and was talking about inventory levels going up because they were preparing to shut down to retool. Thought he said 26wks, but might be wrong on that part. Regardless, I plan on purchasing a 1T diesel in a year or two and would love if GM improved their offering.

GM Changes?

Heard the GM CEO comment that the truck plant would be shut down for 26wks (if I recall correctly) to retool. Can anyone else confirm? It seems about time for GM to upgrade their trucks. Will this be for 2013 year models? Besides wishes, any real information about what changes they'll make?

RE: 2002 Chevy Suburban 2500 8.1 4.10 4x4 issue

Another vote for a crank shaft sensor. My 2002 8.1L had that go out about 50K miles, symptoms sound just like what you describe.

RE: Extension Cord Question

Not sure what the resistance drop of the connector would be, but expect it would be small compared to the 50ft of cable resistance loss. I'd opt for the two 50' because most of the time running one 50ft I wouldn't have to pay the resistance loss price of the other 50ft I didn't need.

RE: Flo Jet Waste Pump System

I have a flo jet and use it exclusively. Dump at home often, 100ft run; but use it at campgrounds too. Fist TT I got a sewer solution (water driven instead of macerator) but I like the flo jet better because it doesn't require additional water AND drives the 100ft run I have. Honestly I've never used the stinky slinky.

RE: hot water lines not winterized ?

Look at crab80's diagrams. You need to switch all three valves by the water heater, if you only turned one you need to find the other two and switch them also. Also make sure you drain the water heater by removing the drain plug, reinsert it when drained. I leave an empty bottle of antifreeze in the kitchen sink just to remind me to change all the valves AND fill the water heater in the spring before I turn it on (and burn out an element). Just did mine this last week, camping's done for 2011.

RE: Most Enjoyable route FL to MN

Thanks Dick_B. I love visiting the Lincoln museum and sites around Springfield, we may do that again if my wife falls asleep while I'm driving around there :) Have to look into Land between the Lakes, we live on a lake in MN so that may or may not be high on our list. Appreciate the ideas, would love to hear other places people have good memories of.

Most Enjoyable route FL to MN

We're going to have a week to make the trip back from Orlando FL to MN in early to mid-Oct. Any suggestions for best things to do/see along the way? I like the idea of meandering without 'destination' locations, but through 'target-rich' opportunities. Suggestions so far have been work to Memphis over a couple days and then meander up along the Mississippi from there. Looking for recommendations or great things we should catch (not interested in big cities etc). Thanks for any assistance!
