RE: So, if you were to win the lottery?

I used to say I'd spent 80% of the money on chasing women and getting drunk. Then I'd just waste the other 20%. I'm older now, so things have changed. ;) Quit my job and have my wife quit hers. Buy a Prevost and tow my wife's new Porsche behind it. Give 10% to the church. Get an American Express Black Card. Travel in the rig to as many NASCAR races at as many tracks as I could take in. Same for Major League Baseball Stadiums. See everything in between while going to events. Buy my daughter a Corvette as a present when she earns her diploma from grad school. Set up a foundation to provide fishing expeditions to inner-city kids. Spend the rest of my life trying not to laugh out loud all the time at my good fortune.

RE: advice on different black tank chemical

I'll raise my hand and say I was swayed to try the Happy Camper stuff only because the RV store didn't have any thing but that brand. All that stuff is is PERFUME. You open the bottle and your whole MH smells like perfume. I had to rinse my tank 4 times to get that damn perfume smell out of it. I'm not sure what you were using, but it probably wasn't Happy Camper. It doesn't come in bottles, it comes in powder form with a scoop. I put a scoop in the toilet with some water and leave it be. I've never noticed a perfume smell EVER. I have used it when the temperatures reached 113 degrees (Las Vegas) and no smell at all. I don't see any "bottles" on a website: Happy Camper Products. So maybe you used a different product.

RE: length of TT for campgrounds

IMHO,anything over 27ft may present a challenge. Mine is 26'9" from ball to bumper and I would agree with this. There have been a few spots that have challenged me (in all types of parks). So planning ahead with a bigger rig is a good idea.

Champion Generator Experience

I bought one in 2007 for about $300 to take when I go to NASCAR races and BBQ competitions. Most of the time we go to full hook-up RV places, so we don't take it along with us. I ran my 3500/4000 Champion Generator a lot when I first got it. Several NASCAR races and quite a few BBQ competitions. It always started up with a pull or two and just ran and ran. Starting around 2009, I haven't had the chance to go to NASCAR or BBQ competitions. :( So it has been sitting in my garage a lot. I put Stabil in the gas tank and it sat there. I think I used it a couple of times in 2010 and earlier this year to run my electric mower just to give it some exercise. I changed the oil in the spring of 2011. Yesterday I needed to re-charge the batteries in my TT. I had accidently forgot to activate the kill switch after my last trip. :S So I took the generator out to the RV storage lot. It started on the first pull and I ran it for around 2 hours. During that time I went grocery shopping and to WalMart. I returned and the generator was still running just fine. It has now been put back in the garage and is ready for the next time I need it. I'm really pleased with how reliable it has been over the last 4+ years. I only use it when I'm at a venue where noise isn't a concern. I leave it unused most of the time--which I suppose it isn't good for it. But it hasn't seem to bother it at all. But I would say that it has been a very reliable piece of equipment for me, and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a generator. I don't like the weight of it, and I struggle to move it around and get it on my carrying rack. If I used a generator all the time, I would buy the Honda 2000 tandem as they are a lot lighter to carry. But for the infrequent times that I need one, it has been a good generator for the money. Based on my current usage, if my Champion did die, I would simply go out and get another one.

RE: New California Restrictions?

The 2 agricultural inspection stations I know best are the one on Hwy 80 coming into California from Reno and the one on I-15 from Las Vegas. I've been through each of them at least 25 times over the last 35+ years. You never know what is going to go on when you come up to the inspection booth. Most of the time they just wave me through (California license plates probably help). When I am towing the trailer, they have asked me if I have any fruits or vegetables. If I do, they question me further about where I bought them. I've never been asked about firewood--only produce. In only 1 instance in my life have they actually wanted to look at the produce in the refrigerator. After they looked, I was allowed to take my lettuce, carrots, and apples home to California. I have observed out-of-state vehicles undergoing a little more scrutiny before being allowed to enter the state. It is a necessary task to keep diseases away from our agriculture.

RE: Dog I.D. Chip

I found an article on cancer and microchips fairly easily: Microchips and Cancer But the cancers were in rats and mice--no definitive ruling on dogs. I recently chipped my dog after having for 6+ years. We have his city tag and an ID tag on him as well. Losing my dog would be such a dreadful thing--anything I can do to improve my chances of finding him is all right by me.

RE: What is up with Dogs not on Leash

I've been RVing since 1999, and this has been an issue for us from time-to-time. I always keep my dog on a leash or lead. Others let theirs run free. I've had a couple of confrontations with unleashed dogs rushing over to me and my leashed dog. It scares the heck out of me and my dog. I am always concerned that the charging dog will attack my dog. So far that hasn't occured. I hope it never does--because I would want to kill the other dog and maybe the owner too. So I expect seeing unleashed dogs when I'm RVing and just watch out for them as best I can.

RE: Sales tax Used RV in CA. & AZ.

This sales tax issue has been around for at least 30 years. I bought a motorcylce in Texas in 1981. Got it licensed and rode it while stationed there. Took it home to California about 6 months later and had to pay the sales tax and license fee. With California being so broke, there is no way to get around paying the taxes and licensing....

RE: the "why" of it

Having had our current setup since 2004, I am looking forward to getting a 5er/1-ton dually diesel setup. The basement storage on the 5er is a very good reason for me to get the 5er. Also, I prefer a pickup to the 'Burb.
