RE: Newbie went to war with the Black Tank

This was a recent reply that should work. Hope this helps.

As I have posted before on this subject. Reach your arm down the hole as far as you can and feel around for anything chunky. Squeeze it up between your fingers until it flows freely. The wife has recently learned how to do this but only after she cooks. Do this once a month for regular maintenance. Hope this helps

I believe that's the guy who said his wife's toothbrush does a great job cleaning tp out of the bowl seal.

RE: 7/8" Combinated RV Compartment Door Lock

7/8" is pretty much the standard size but keyed locks are usually what comes on most tts. Unfortunately, most of those keyed locks use the same key, i.e., you can open everybody else's compartments, so many change their compartment locks, either to combination locks and some to key'd locks. I changed mine out for that reason but went with keyed alike locks (eyes aren't as good as they used to be). Lobo

RE: Newbie Questions

Thanks ERS. I'll check again but I'm pretty sure there were no valves.
Also, yes there was anti-freeze in the water heater before I dewinterized it. I simply took out the plastic plug on the outside of the camper where the water heater controls were. I think I got about 2 gallons of anti freeze out. I opened the pressure valve to let air in which helped let the anti-freeze out.
I really wish I had a usable users manual for this rig. I have the original manual but it's very generic and does not get into details about valves, tanks, low point drains, etc.
FWIW, manufacturer's manuals don't show the bypass valve configuration since they vary and can have 1, 2, or 3 valves. Not sure about a '94 Fleetwood but perhaps someone on the forum can verify what, if any bypass system was used in that model/year. Lots of knowledgeable folks here that are glad to help. Lobo

RE: Fastway Flip jack foot

In the directions, it states several times not to use in on any surface that is larger than a 3 degree grade.
I was thinking about getting one but this alone is all I need to know to decide I will not get one.
X2. Not sure why it has a 3 degree limit and although 3 degrees might not be typical for most campsites, I see tts parked on driveways that are more than that. :h

RE: Newbie Questions

Hi,
Recently purchased a 1994 21 foot mallard by fleetwood. I have been dewinterizing the trailer over the past couple of days and also cleaning and getting to know it. This is my first camper. I have a couple of unrelated questions.
1. How do you know how much propane is in the tank(s). Is there a gauge somewhere? It's got two new tanks from previous owner but I have no idea if they are full or not.
2. There are three low point drains under the trailer (besides the gray/blackwater valve). One goes to the freshwater tank but there are two in the back of the trailer that I have no idea what they go to. Anti-Freeze came out when I opened them. Also, when the pump is running they are pressurized and water comes out pretty strong.
3. I'm thinking about swapping out the kitchen faucet. I have a double sink and the faucet looks like a pretty standard (cheap) 3 hole faucet setup. Can I buy something similiar at home depot or do I need a special RV faucet? (I want to replace it because its kind of corroded and doesn't look all that great).
4. My fridge runs on propane or electric. Is it ok to have the fridge on when I'm trailering the camper back and forth to campsites and home?
5. My trailer didn't come with a spare tire. Where is a good place to mount one if I buy one?
6. My trailer has a fold down bunk bed above the dinette. There are suppose to be three 2"x10"x85" cushions stored behind the bunk bed when it's folded up. They are the mattress for the bunk bed when it's folded down. Unfortunately, the previous owner only had two. Is there somewhere I can buy one of these? Are they standard on a lot of trailers?
That's it for now. I know these questions are kind of all over the place but I'm a bit overwhelmed. The trailer is really in excellent shape overall and I am very pleased with it.
Thank you,
Mark
1. Propane is sold by the pound. Take your tanks to a place that sell propane and they can weigh the tanks and fill them if needed.
2. The two low pt drains are for cold and hot water. Always open them when winterizing to be sure there's anti-freeze in them and open them a few times during de-winterizing to get rid of all the anti-freeze.
3. Yes. They're easy to change out.
4. This question is discussed a lot. Some do, some don't. Do a search in this forum. Lots of pros/cons for you to decide yourself. I don't stop to refuel when we go camping. Using shore power, I turn my frig on a day or to before a trip and switch to gas for the trip. Personally, I wouldn't feel comfortable fueling the truck with it on, but that's my opinion and there's a few thousand more opinions out there. (Always be sure the tt is level before you turn on the frig.)
5. You can buy a spare tire mount at any RV dealer, Camping World, etc or order on line to fit your particular bumper.
6. Can't comment on the cushion. Some others may be able to help. Good Luck, Lobo

RE: Dewinterize a trailer?

You guys are awesome!!
Thanks for the information. I will be looking to get things ready to go for the May long weekend. can't wait.
anyone know where you can get trailer user manuals from as mine did not come with one as it was pre-owned and the dealer no longer exists.
it is a 2005 Travelaire Westwind 264wt
Thanks again for the info..
Steve.
Steve,
Make a list of your systems/appliances, etc. by model number/serial number and go to the individual manufacturer's sites and you can download the info there. In many cases you'll find more of the info you need anyway. Good luck, Lobo

RE: Leaking compartment door cam lock

Are you sure the water isn't getting in past that 'o-ring'? Mine were doing the the same thing and I added a little silicone sealant to each side of that so called 'o-ring' and no more leak. Lobo

RE: Wall paper unsticking

As Skip mentioned, moisture doesn't necessarily show up through the wallpaper. However, it doesn't seem likely that there is moisture behind your wall paper or it wouldn't have stuck at all when you smoothed it out. In addition to stress from the bend in the panel, it could also be from heat buildup. Lobo

RE: Changing Dinette

I think what you may be talking about is what Keystone calls a 'Do More' table and it comes in some their tts. It is free standing and lowers to make a bed or it can be moved and used as a coffee table when lowered. Very stable compared to the typical wobbly two post deal our Springdale came with.
I had my local Keystone dealer order just the Do More base and used my table top. No more coffee spills. Good luck, Lobo

RE: Ethynol 15% coming soon

Big thing how will the onan gens with a carb work????
They won't work long, before the carb will have to be rebuilt.
Lawnmower repair guy recently told me that lawnmower engines are having a lot of carb problems because of ethynol and I know it's causing problems with some outboard motors. I use marine sta-bil in my boat motor as well as my mowers. Just be sure and read what's in some of the fuel additives out there since some of them contain alcohol which just compounds the problem.

RE: Wobbly Table

Keystone has a table called a "Do-More" table that comes in some of it's travel trailers that lowers for bed or can be moved to the sofa and used as a coffee table. After fighting with the two post set-up that came in our Keystone, I had my dealer order just a Do-More table base and I put my table top on it. Very stable and no more spilled coffee.
