RE: Earliest time to go to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland?

Another thought, the ice report from Environment Canada: http://ice-glaces.ec.gc.ca/prods/GULF003/20111201000000_GULF003_0006157439.pdf
Summary: above normal temperatures. Or when the ice is cleared out the air in all of Atlantic Canada (NB, NS, PEI & NL) warms up too.
& I am not used to having Canada geese winter in waters not too far from where I live. This is tidal water bordering on Northumberland Strait between Nova Scotia, New Brunswick & PEI.

Diann,
Are you sure that date wasn't May 18. & you rushed north thinking the icebergs might melt.
IIRC the icebergs were still coming down in August.

There were a lot of floods last spring, a long spring. No doubt the provincial people had their hands very full.

RE: 2013 Trip: Cape Breton, NS

We were just in those parts in September. Some stuff was closing down by then. But what was open was pretty uncrowded.
We liked the North Sydney KOA, too.
So September is a good month to go then? We like less crowding and we don't mind cold temps.
In most years the fall in Atlantic Canada is long and mild compared to the rest of the continent.

RE: Newfoundland 2012

You can check a lot of facts and figures from this site: http://www.roads.gov.nl.ca/cameras/default.stm It's a good one to have on the road.
It doesn't give you Port aux Basques to St. John's.. But having lived in Newfoundland (west coast) for 24.5 years, my memory says it will be about 930 kilometers from PAB to SJ. I know those who live there figure on 12 hours. But then they're used to it. It's not new scenery with interesting side sites to them.
RobandDi try to visit Newfoundland in the odd years and plan on being there for 2 months each time.
An alternate way you might go is the Trans Labrador Highway. The ferry crossing is St. Barbe to Blanc Sablon. The road opened in 2009 and is mostly gravel. It includes route 389 in Quebc.
I'm just tossing ideas.

RE: 2013 Trip: Cape Breton, NS

Yes, I've enjoyed Meat Cove and spots all over Cape Breton, not just Lousibourg Fortress and both walking and driving in Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Actually, I liked the national park least of all places in Cape Breton. Campgrounds then were excessively crowded.

RE: Our newest stray...now family member

Precious is a nice name.
In saying that, I'm pointing to my thorough dislike of meaningless people names. Precious means something to you. It is the personality of this cat.
Let's see now, there was a little puppy I had accepted and she had been naughty. "Well, at least you're not a puppet, I said.".........
...... Hello Muppet". It fit that little girl as well as Precious suits your precious one.

RE: Mont Tremblant Provincial Park

Wayne, me son, first of all, you have to look at Canadian sites. It helps to use a Canadian domained search engine, google.ca or yahoo.ca, as in: https://www.google.ca/
Next, the words you use as your search term, t'ain't 'Mericanese, sir, tis Canuck speak, for example, "Quebec Tourism", or "Ontario Tourism".
But should you want a city, it's name of city + Chambre of Commerce (just maybe Chamber, though), ie. "Montreal Chambre of Commerce"
'K, does ye gets all that? (even with me using sort o' a Newfoundland acccent)
I also find telephone gives you a chance to ask for special interests.........hiking, historical section, museums...........concerts

RE: crossing the Canadian border in RV

As Crabbin Cabin has said there is a section at this site called RVing in Canada and Alaska. It's here: http://forums.woodalls.com/Index.cfm/fuseaction/listings/forum/65.cfm
& stickys with all kinds of links are at the top of that section.
Remember you're travelling and there are lots of things to discover. Food is one of them. I make it a practice to eat out, preferably at an ethnic place at least once a week.
Enjoy your trip.

RE: Driving around the Gaspe Peninsula

A lot of those rest stops permit overnight camping. & charge you for it.
When I passed through in 2006, I managed to find a place well away from lots of villages/towns. Here is the pic of what I faced coming to the highway.
http://cdn-3-service.phanfare.com/images/5025821_2218075_33016756_Web_3/Image-5025821-33016756-2-Web_0_c075b881474ca53a39bd78a185348c7a_1.jpg
Double check when the QC construction holiday is. I think it's the 1st two weeks of August and all construction workers are off. To say the least many of those construction workers go camping.

RE: What is possibility of truly wireless home internet?

I Googled online monitor...and got nothing relevant. Please explain what you mean by online monitor.
Sidney
Ok, I've a 19" wide monitor. It's ok for me to sit here and view a tv program.
& that wouldn't be ok for a family of 3 or 4. So, I don't know how online tv works for others.

RE: Prince Edward Island

PEI is a big island, where specifically to you want to go on the island?
Not very big compared to Newfoundland!!
Once you get on route to at either northern cape, it's two hours at highway speeds (90 km) to the centre of the island.
Still consider how much gas you use up.
Tell us what you want to see and we, who are somewhat familiar with PEI, can help more.

If you're one person, you can be happy with online monitor.
I gave up my company tv package via antenna.
I am able to watch online television and online radio, plus all youtube videos.
& I live in a rural area.

RE: Posting Photos

Meanwhile, some of us have upgraded to DSLR cameras with higher resolution.
& some of that has come from seeing forum pics with more clarity and detail.
I, like Reddog, live in a rural area and have wireless connectivity. I can watch online tv and listen to online radio, which is great for the repeat broadcast.
Some pics load slow, but I will be glad when I get to know my DSLR camera and sort out the best ways to post a more detailed pic without slowing things up for others.

Passwords are different for each site. Separate email for PayPal, Ebay, etc $ type stuff from 'correspondence' email account.
Some techies gave me some tips for things to help remembering. It all adds up. & I do not accept e-letters for Xmas, B-Day, etc

RE: What is possibility of truly wireless home internet?

I have wireless.
If I have a problem, I call. By times I'm the first to call and alert the company to a tower that's down.
I live in a rural area and that may help have this level of service.
It's a lot slower than DSL, but I can access the online live via the internet tv.
& I can get online radio too.
Other options seem to have come along since I got this connection. I stay because of the service. Haven't even priced the others.
