RE: Television Translators

byronlj, So far I have learned that Mohave County sublet the Translator work to a company called Wecon. They are located at Kingman and have a 800 number. It is 1-800-290-5872. I called today monday and talked to their field operator. He said I should get a perfect signal and receive over 8 channels. I told him that I had talked to 25 other people in this park and none of them receive any better signal than I do. We set up a meeting for tuesday to have him bring his equipment and find out whats going on. He says we may be in a blind spot. In which case they would have to install a reflecter which would pick up their signal and transfer it to this park. It seems they have other blind spots which they have had to correct in this manner. Hope this helps.

RE: Television Translators

Well, since you say the translators are operated by the county in this area, I guess I should be talking to them. I,m not really on good terms with Mohave county though since I had to take them to task and almost had to take them to court over a bill they owed but just ignored hoping I would go away. I never just go away. But I do enjoy giving tax collectors a bad time. I believe you just made my day. Thanks for the info. As for improving my equipment. It works just fine everywhere else and I am under 14 miles from the translators with a 60 mile amplifier.

RE: Television Translators

I already have the amplified high gain VHF/UHF gull wing on a short mast and I even tried the Wingman. No improvement what so ever. Thats another question I have. Since the Wingman has no wired connection to the gull wing antenna, how does it work? Does it just draw the signal into the area so the gull wing can pick it up better?

Television Translators

We are in a resort in Mohave Valley, AZ.on the Colorado River. There is no cable available and Dish and Direct are way to expensive what with their contracts you must agree to for two years. So that leaves us with over the air translators. Unfortunately the signal they put out is mostly very poor. We receive our signal from the Oatman Translator. It is 14 miles away and line of sight. On the best days we receive CBS and FOX clearly, ABC and NBC very poor with lots of snow and nothing else is viewable at all. Our equipment is up to date and works fine at other places. I might add no one else in this park seems to get any better signal than we do. One of the problems may be that the Oatman translator only sends out a analog signal. There for the digital to analog converter box's don't work at all. Well thats not quite true. With the box installed we can receive 6.1 digital which appears to be nothing but paid advertising for exercising equipment. My question here is two fold. Does anyone in this area receive better signals from the local translator and by what method? Also, who are these translator operators responsible to? Somebody must pay them and there must be regulations governing their operations. I don't know where to start so any one with experience with this sort of problem who can offer advise will be appreciated. Thanks for anything you can offer.

RE: Insurance For Live in 5th Wheels

Al, That story does not surprise me in the least. With my personal experience while dealing with State Farm I have come to know that some of their agents are less than honest. My bet is your agent checked with his underwriter and knew all along that there were holes in the fine print. Remember agents don't work for you they work for the insurance company and are paid by the insurance company. Many years ago a woman took a left turn at a four lane intersection and cut across in front of me but to close. I was sitting at the red light in the inside lane and she raked the drivers side of her car across the front of mine. She admited fault and apoligized and gave me her insurance info. This happened very early in the morning and I thought there were no witness's, but it turned out there was and off duty police officer from another town who seen the accident and reported it to Seattle police. The womans State farm agent convinced her to say I had pulled out and hit her. It went to court and the surprise witness showed up and the judge listened very intently to his testimony and questioned the woman and she told the truth and also said her agent had threatend to cancel her policy if she admitted fault. Yeah I know about State Farm and some of their agents.

RE: Insurance For Live in 5th Wheels

OK, not much of what was being said here made sense to me so I began looking into possibilites by way of my insurance commissioners office. It seems all insurance companies must file records and intentions with the state and these papers are open to the public. My insurance company says in these papers that an addendum must be offered if applied for by a policy holder of a home owners policy. In effect this clause will be added to the current policy. That the trailer or fifth wheel while parked shell be declared a secondary residense and be covered by the primary residense policy in every way that the primary residense is covered. Up to the limits of the policy. When I brought this to the attention of the underwriters they said they would attach a clause to my home owners policy and bill me at a rate of and additional $10 per year. In addition the trailer while being towed by a properly insured vehicle will be covered by that vehicle's insurance. Now, not all states require insurance companies to post there intentions and not all insurance companies will offer these benefits, but it looks to me that it is certainly worth looking into. But don't just take the word of the customer service person who says "how can I help you?" They will sometimes give you false information and not offer solutions that are to your benefit. Remember, they are insurance companies, not beneficial associations. So do your homework and prepare for battle!

RE: Insurance For Live in 5th Wheels

As I stated we are not full timers. My wife lives in the fifth wheel for six months out of the year. I don't live there at all, I only visit at Christmas for a week. We have stock to care for and I can't be spending my winters in Arizona. Not that I would even if I could. I enjoy the winter months up north. The wifes lungs are shot she cannot take the cold and dampness of winter up north anymore. Now, as for not telling the insurance people that my wife will be living in the fifth wheel during the winter, I don't consider that a good idea. If a person had a claim than the adjuster discovered that the fifth wheel was being lived in they could just deny the claim on the grounds of fraud, and be justified. One of the questions to get insurance is the vehicles license number. Since the fifth wheel lives in Arizona permanent it is required to be licensed in Arizona and insurance people are not stupid. They will know it is a snowbird fifth wheel. All I really need is liability insurance. The campgrounds put these rigs so close that if one caught fire it probably would set off the adjoining rigs as well. I can suffer the loss of my own fifth wheel but I may get bankrupth if the fire spread to half a dozen other rigs. As for just listing all the insurance companies in the phone book, sorry, but that is not what I was hoping to get here. I hoped to get personal recommendations. Anybody can look in the phone book, even me. Thats how I got all the rejections. But thanks for trying anyway.

Insurance For Live in 5th Wheels

Been trying to buy insurance for my 5th wheel. But as soon as I tell them it will be lived in for 6 months of the year and stored in a RV campground for the other 6 months they just say goodbye. It isn't the 6 months storage that bothers them it's the 6 months living in it full time that scares them off. And yes I tried AARP where my other vehicles are insured and got the same answer. So the question is, Who do you people insure with?

RE: Dentists at Algodones / Across from Yuma

Gemstone, Thanks for the link but I had already gone there before I asked for personal reference's. The name's of thirty or fourty dentists don't do much good with out phone numbers and reference's.

Marv, OK you nailed me. I know, I'm just plain lazy. But If you weren't such a soft touch and a well known ***** cat who rumbles and roars to make yourself sound mean people like me wouldn't take advantage of you. Fish or cut bait. Hell, sometimes you have to do one to do the other. Now than if I could just talk you into paying the bill. But I suppose you would balk at that. I thank you very much for the very detailed information.

RE: Dentists at Algodones / Across from Yuma

OK, Algodones it is. But from all of the recommendations for Algodones you only made two recommendations for specific dentists. And those were both made by one person. Really, that is not much encouragement. Come on people how about some more names and phone numbers. So I can call to make appointments. I will be about 200 miles North at Mohave Valley. Thats a long drive just to find I can't get in that day or even that week. Please, look at your receipts and come up with a name and Phone number. Also one person mentioned a large parking lot at the border owned by Indians. Is that maybe an Indian casino?

RE: IS DEC TOO LATE TO LEAVE FOR THE SOUTHWEST

Wally World is WalMart stores parking lots and Flying J is one of the truck stops. You will see many of them along the way. I don't recommend Flying J truck stops or any other truck stops for that matter. Noisy places for the most part and very rude employee's. Ok to stop for fuel but thats about it. Not all Wally World's will let you overnight in the parking lot but most will and usually there will be other RV's parked there as well. Stay as far away from the store as possible and you will be fine. But it is strickly for overnight parking not camping. In Arizona's Phoenix area you will be near the big city and have more access to groceries and such at cheaper prices but your campground will be more expensive. Along the Colorado River the groceries will be a little more expensive but the campgrounds will be cheaper. You picked the better Interstate to cross the country on. I-10 is a little slower but a lot safer for RV's. I-40 May be faster but it is the truckers winter route from east to west, and you can run into blizzards crossing Northern Texas and New Mexico. There isn't much to slow the wind and snow down coming out of the Canadian Arctic but a few fence posts. Traveling in December can be bad for the first couple days but after that you shouldn't see any bad weather along I-10. Most Rver's don't hit Arizona until after Christmas.

RE: Ventilation requirement for catalytic heater

If you have to have 24 square inches of ventilation, than why bother with the heater? It seems to me you would have more heat going out than the heater would produce. Three inches Sounds more reasonable. At one time in my life I built a home made pickup camper and used it for several years. This was before campers were invented. I had two one inch diameter holes near the ceiling in the front and two one inch diameter holes near the floor in the rear. Didn't have catalitic heaters at that time. Used that rig many a year Elk hunting in Idaho, Washington and Montana. Never did die from lack of oxygen. Of coarse the wife says thats the reason for the loss of brain cells. Little does she know. Actually, I never had them to start with. Yeah, yeah I know all the smart remarks that statement will bring on so try keeping them to yourselves and help the guy out instead.

RE: Craigslist Flagging

Not sure yet but I think it may be a new consignment lot. They just started up in business and probably don't know the rules yet. This may give me and oportunity to teach them the way to act in the future. My reasoning is the fact that every time I get flagged off this new lot seems to file a new wanted ad or for sale ad within 4 or 5 minutes. So I went down to their lot and into their office to talk to them about perhaps buying a trailer. Their office is in a 30' trailer, with no partitions. I could over hear all conversations and one I heard was a young employee saying to another sales person that She had just flagged another one off. They have five computers set up and being used. Don't know for sure they are the culprit but I do know that commercial enterprizes are not allowed to use Craigslist without paying Craigslist and indentifying them selves as dealers. They run on and average of 8 new ads every day and some of their ads are being run two or three times at once. The same ad, that is.

RE: Craigslist Flagging

a1coolmom, Have you checked Craigslist recently? They have changed their rules. About two weeks ago they made most of their categories "for sale/wanted". And your right about their help section it is a total joke. This lack of attention by Craigslist people will eventually lead to their removal from the internet. The number of criminal acts connected to Craigslist is attracting the attention of law enforcement and AG offices in different states throughout the country. There defense so far is "we are not responsible for the acts of others" If that was true, try inciting a riot and see who goes to jail.

RE: Craigslist Flagging

Ok, you may have something with the word "pusher". I'm not really convinced however because if a red flag is raised by that word wouldn't it also set off the flaggs when dealers are selling MH's and describing them as diesel pushers. They don't get flagged off. Also all dealers who sell used MH's also buy used MH's and anyone running and ad may say to them that they are trying to cut out the middle man and deal directly with the seller. Consignment lots definately do not want the buyer and seller to not use them.

RE: Craigslist Flagging

jcapps, Well it has just been flagged and removed again. This time it stayed up for all of 33 minutes. I post under recreational vehicles for sale/wanted. And I just ask for anyone selling a diesel pusher to send me pictures and info. It does take more than one person to flagg and ad off. Or at least more than one computer. I am beginning to suspect dealers and consignment lots. They would have several computers and certainly more than enough reason. Commercial advertising is a violation of Craigslist rules but Craigslist does nothing to prevent them from taking over their website.

Craigslist Flagging

With all the people on this forum some body must have and answer. I recently tried posting for a diesel pusher wanted and every time I post it gets flagged off. I follow all of Craigslist rules and have only the one ad running at a time. I have asked the other users what I may be doing wrong and so far no one can come up with and answer. Craigslist says it takes more than one person to flagg you off but does not say just how many. If any of you can come up with and answer please share. It's a bit frustrating.

RE: Heart interface inverter going to overload

It sounds like it may be that the sensors are reading something that is not taking place. This has to be a very old unit and may have set for sometime without use. They don't like to sit idle. On the front of the unit are two circuit breakers trip them both and see if it will reset on it's own. If not, than load it with a electric heater. Sometimes being heavily loaded will cure it's problems after setting for to long idle. If all else fails Try calling Xantrex they are in Washington State. Heart Interface and another company went together and formed Xantrex years ago.
