RE: Electrical fire hazard from using electric space heaters

Only buy space heaters that have lo & high settings.d Use low settings for long term use - that's only 750 W - use high setting for short term.
If you need more heat than that, use your furnace. If you need more than that, you're at the wrong end of the country - move south.
That is what I do, for "extra saftey". If I want to use it on high, I plug into my GFI in the kitchen, which I checked all the connections on and in the main panel itself. This GFI has about 3 feet of wire to the main panel and is the same used in a home. No heat build up here.

RE: FCC says no to LightSquared

From what I read, they were also trying to strech what the original plan allowed, thus causing GPS interference.

RE: Water heater rinser

Has anyone every used a water heater rinser? It's supposed to help wash out sediment that collects on the bottom of the tank. I always drain my tank after each trip so I'm thinking that would accomplish the same thing but looking for other opinions...thanks!
Here's one on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Camco-11691-Water-Heater-Rinser/dp/B002XL2IBS/ref=acc_glance_auto_ai_ps_t_2
It works great for me, been using one for years.

RE: 12 volt lights dim and get brighter.

More info needed on when this happens etc. Make and model converter?
There are several who have reported this "dimming" and all it was is the converter doing its normal cycling to a higher voltage at times and back again, so maybe you have no problem. Or maybe you do.
Ditto ^^^^^ what he said M/M and how often?

RE: keeping track of watts, amps voltage

bought one of these several years ago Vena AC/DC meter... link....... at the time camping world was selling them. I paid @ $300 including the optional AC amp accessory. It is a great meter, easy to custom program and has alarms. The problem is I don't know if you can still by them.

RE: Verizon 4g MIFI?????

Rather than MIFI, when we upgraded phones I got a Verizon samsung charge 4G phone with built in hot spot with support for up to 5 devices. one less thing to carry, lower monthly cost. So far I'm very impressed with 4G performance. However, I doubt I'll be at any campgrounds soon that are in 4G coverage areas. Nice to have when we occasionally stop at a large metro area RV park. Seems like the phone I have has fewer issues with connections etc. than some of the dedicated cards.
That might work for you, but if I went that route and I was gone at work... my wife wouldn't have internet at home, since this is our only source at home.
I had two bars of 4G signal or @-102 yesterday at my house and it wouldn't hold 4G. Like I said it works for me on 3G, not for everyone. One more antenna in my area converted to 4G and I'll be set....one day 4G :)

RE: Verizon 4g MIFI?????

I have the Verizon Samsung "jetpack" wifi hotspot, good write up here
Besides satelite internet or dial up, it was my only choice at home. We use it everyday and it works well. I'm on the edge of 4G coverage, so it doesn't connect to 4G at home. It's really fast on 4G, but you have to have a solid 4G signal. Even on 3G I'm getting a 105 ms ping, 1.94 Mbps down and .66 Mbps up on the test I just ran. The worst problem we have is...It does not load a web page about every 10 mins, have to click reload. I did switch the security setting from the default, per the attached write up, and that seem to help the stability.

RE: water heater troubleshooting

I thought I would post the troubleshooting details on a water heater without electric heat operating so it will help someone later.
But first, let see who can figure it out before I post the fix.....
No hot water with electric on and gas off.
Measure 120 Vac on both terminals of the heating element to ground.
Measure 0 Vac across the element.
What would you do next?
hint: residential 240 Vac water heater troubleshooting experience is of little help and will involve different interpretations of failure mode voltages measured on a 120V RV unit.
I would disconnect the heating element and measure the ohms per the service manual. not sure what or who you are trying to test :)

RE: Suburban SF-30 furnace limit switch cycles

I am asking readers just to try their furnace and see if it cycles. Also I think all of us have laid a pillow over the bedroom duct to push more heat to the living room. Does that cause the limit switch to cycle???
The only time my heater cycled was when the cover came loose and it was re-circulating hot air. Putting a pillow over a vent could be causing your problem by restricting airflow and allowing the temperature to rise to high. Even NASA knows this :)

I have the Batteryminder model Model:12117, so that is what I was thinking of.

RE: Son's Looking At 06 Nissan Titan LE Kingcab

'06 Big Tow Titan owner here, 110,000 total miles, 34,000 of those miles towing my sig. 5,600 lb Travel Trailer all over the country. Orginal brakes, only recurring problem is pinion seal leak, although they have lasted @ 50,000 miles between changes. I added Timbrens and she is a beast towing. I would buy another if I needed to. All trucks have issues, early Titans '04 and '05 did have more issues. I agree, on the asking price is way to high. 17 mpg highway, @ 10 mpg towing.
And for those who always bring up the "pumpkin size" I think the ring gear is only 1/2 inch smaller then the famous 9" ford. The early problems with the rears were due to poor manufacturing by Dana.
I would limit my self to 7,000 lbs with this truck.

RE: Best small pure sine wave inverter?

This is from someone who had to replace the power supply board in a 26 LCD TV after using a MSW inverter, I now run a 300w Samlex from Best Converters. I have 50 amp Anderson connectors on my 2 GC 6 volts on my trailer, I can quick charge the batteries with them or plug in my inverter. I have the inverter in a weather proof box, plug it in and I plug the whole trailer in with all the breakers off except the main and the receptacles I want to use. If I need to run the generator, I just unplug and plug into the generator. This process works great for my few times of dry camping per year.

RE: 50 Amp Cord Replacement With 20 Amp

I would cut the cord near the junction box buy one male such as this twist lock connector and two females. Mount the male on the pig tale out of the RV and one female on your 50 amp cord and another female to your 20 amp cord. then you have options.

RE: Played with Kill a Watt meter today...

Every time I've measured the air conditioner, the power draw creeps up for the first 10 or 15 minutes or so, then it stabilizes.
I see the same thing. As the pressure builds up, the amps go up.
