RE: Newspaper carrier arrested - beware

When I go on vacation, I call the police to tell them there should not be anyone at the house. I also "contract" with a local kid to watch & feed our dogs. At some point you have to trust people or you will end up locked inside your own house behind windows with bars on them. The township I was assigned for the Sheriffs Dept. provided vacation checks, not alot of Departments have the time and manpower. One winter I used a snow shovel directly in front of the garage door then drove up on the cleared area to make it look like a car drove in to the garage. If you use your imagination and take precautionary measures believe me you can prevent problems. And I agree we cannot dwell on fear because you will never be content with leaving your home. Bill

RE: Hey Michigan Snow birds

I was ready for it. Sand bags loaded into the truck, tractor w/plow ready, snowblower ready too. I have 6 to 8 inches here in Paw Paw. Cleaned my drive and three neighbors drive's too. Took my Dobie for a walk and went to Kalamazoo. M43 was worse in Kal. County. Don't know why such a difference with MDOT Paw Paw and MDOT Kalamazoo I do enjoy a snowy winter but I think I'd also like a Arizona winter too! Happy New Year. Bill:)

RE: Where did all this stuff come from?

I have this question all the time, now where did I put such and such. When I got my 5er I swore that I'd make a list of where all my stuff was stored. I have too much storage. After I forget to duck and hit my head really hard a few times I begin to remember then my head gets pretty sore!

RE: Deer avoidance system ?

I always said the push bumper's on our cruiser's were really cattle pushers. During my career I worked many many accidents where the vehicle colliding with a deer had the anti deer (noise) gizmo, so I'd say they don't work. Bill

RE: Finally satisfied the weight police. Got new truck

As some may remember I was not happy with the Chevy dually. Its a real nice truck but just not enough IMHO. Been searching around and cannot afford 60-70 thou for a new F550. Dont want a used 550 with all fords problems and prices for used are still in the 40's. I found a 1999 Freightliner crew cab. Air ride suspension, cab, seats and even a air hitch. 300 H.P. with a 6 speed Allison trans. and 22.5 wheels/tires truck has only 138k miles. Have yet to get the truck and trailer on the scales but not its out of curiosity not worry. The truck rides as nice as the dually empty but rides even better with the trailer. It just lopes along at 1500 rpm at highway speed. I drove in a big wind last week with the trailer and can be happier. It does not push the truck around and I feel in total control. Ready for the mountains out west.wow, I'd like to do that too but I don't think it will be any time soon. Bill

RE: Mid-Michigan Snow

No snow up here in Mesick. (Mi) I'm still at my Barn project with no heat in the building and glad its not freezing inside. I have not drained my water well pump pressure tank. however my fifth wheel is inside and has been winterized and is toasty! I'm in the mood for snow when I head back to SW Mi. :) Bill.

RE: Why are non-violent offenders handcuffed?

How does a law enforcement officer determine when and where a person under arrest will become violent? What does a violent person look like? If I am ever arrested, I would expect to be cuffed to ensure the officer's safety. We, who are not involved in law enforcement, have no idea what our officers encounter daily during their duty shifts. I hope I am always respectful and appreciative to our law enforcement offices, firemen (and ladies) and EMT personnel. May God watch over all of them and keep them safe so they in return can protect us. RayThank you Ray.

RE: Why are non-violent offenders handcuffed?

Used to be common for the Officer on the scene to make that call, but no more. To many Officers hurt and killed by, "NON violent" persons in custody to allow anyone to remain without restraints, once placed in custody. I placed a value on my life while on duty and if I "embarrassed" someone by restraining them for my safety, to bad. I was going home at the end of my shift, in my cruiser, not in an ambulance or coroners wagon.I agree. It is a policy that before entering the County Jail, the prisoner must be restrained, and I obeyed! Plus I informed the prisoner that he or she may be a non violent person however my job was much more important than not having cuffs put on!
