RE: Anyone Made Any Camping Plans?

We book everything in January. Booked 10 trips out camping thru the year. It's the only way to get a reservation in the Texas state parks. They are booked up months in advance.

RE: No more guessing how much water I put in

I never carry any fresh water at all, because we camp at places with water & electric hook ups only; however, if you were going off road, like the OP mentioned, I could see not wanting the extra weight. I'm guessing at the off road, becuase he mentioned a 16% grade.

I thought you could never have too much water or battery life when you were boondocking.

RE: I got the 19.5" installed

They look nice on the truck. I would like to do the same thing, but am short the bucks to do it. I am still under my tire caps on my 16 inch stockers though.

RE: Most Car Transporters Are Cummins Powered Rams?

I see a lot of Dodge, but also a lot of Fords around here. I don't see too many Duramax's even though you would think you would, because they have a proven drivetrain. I do prefer the low end grunt of a inline 6 engine for a truck, and Dodge is the only game left if you want a manual trans.

RE: Diesel MPG?

Well first of all, I don't need to lie to you about my MPG. I get 18.x combined city / hwy, and 10.x towing a 11.7k lb high profile fifth. I don't have the other two rear wheels, and my truck only weighs 7200 lbs. I had a very simular truck before I went diesel (QCLB DODGE), and it got 13 not towing, and 6 towing a smaller TT.

RE: Where to haul the dog??

I had a dog that prefered rideing in the trailer, and one that didn't like it. Try it with the camera running, and find out if it bothers the dog.

RE: Newb - Low water drain point?

I put the pink winter storage stuff in the toilet & drains only for Winter storage, and that's the only time I drain water from the trailer. Do leave some water in the toilet during the summer months to keep the seal lubed.

RE: TOTAL CHAOS>>>>

Sorry but the dogs aren't staying home. Why don't you leave your ill mannered childeren home. Oh yeah, because they are part of the family, and the camping is about the family. Also I would kick a dog comeing after mine, and I consider myself a dog lover' however, as has been said I will take care of my pack.

RE: WDH shank length?

Yes & no. The shorter you can have the Shank and not hit the trailer the better. It gives the trailer less leverage onthe truck.

RE: Chev 2500 Gas/Diesel use TT vs 5th?

The only significant difference was in fuel economy. I lost about 1 to 1.5 MPG going to the fifth wheel; however, it weighs twice what the travel trailer weighed, and is a lot taller.

RE: Roof A/C not blowing cold, can it be recharged?

My bet would be the start capacitor on the compressor motor. Not a real expensive fix, but like was posted get a voltmeter and check on the unit.

RE: State Parks "Space Spoiled Me"!

We usually stay in state or county parks; in fact, we only frequent 1 private campground in our usual camping year. There isn't a state park in the area of it.

RE: Gasoline stabalizers

I add Stabil & Sea Foam to my gas powered engines that sit for any length of time in between runs. It seems to help the poor excuse for gasoline we buy these days.

RE: Height of Carports and RV's?

We had ours built with 12 ft sides, and it's about 14.5 ft in the middle. Also it's 12 ft wide. It's easy to come back later & close in the sides. I just bought some r panels & put them on the sides myself. Our fiver is about 13.2 at the tallest point in the middle. The only change I would've made is makeing it wider. I wish we had gone 16 ft instead of 12 ft wide. Then we could've opened the slides while covered up.
