RE: Claim denied for lighting strike to motorhome?

Don't go to an attorney!
An example of what can happen: A lady I know was involved in a accident. The other guy's insurance company low-balled her. She went to an attorney. He wrote one letter; the insurance company paid and he took 40% of the settlement.
Go to a public adjuster. You can find them in the yellow pages or on Google. A state licensed adjuster will estimate the damages just like the other adjuster, except this one is working for you. He will include everything (and then some) in his estimate and negotiate on your behalf with your insurance company.
They are MUCH better, and much less expensive than attorneys for claims like this. In fact, I've seen attorneys hire a PA to do the legwork on a claim, then pay them out of his 40%.

RE: Recalculating

Does anyone make a GPS that has a pause mode? Like when you pull off the highway for gas???
I turn it off just before I exit. Turn it on when I'm back on the highway. Problem solved!

RE: Claim denied for lighting strike to motorhome?

Why should I be responsible to have the front section of my motor home pulled apart to look for the damage. The investigator took pictures of the tree that was hit and clearly said there was damage. BUT>>>>because he could not see where the smoke had come from he considered there to be no physical flame damage to the eye. So now I have to pull my motorhome apart, which is very scary to me, in order to prove where the smoke is coming from?????? IS that not what they are supossed to do? THERE WAS SMOKE< THERE IS DAMAGE< just can not see it until it is all pulled down, this included the front roof, passanger window has to come out as side panel is held down by window, etc.
MOST insurance companies pay what they owe. To do otherwise invites a charge of "unfair claims practices" which are illegal in every state. However, your adjuster is probably not allowed to pay for damage that he can't see, such as damages inside the wall. And, your policy undoubtedly requires you to prove the damage.
Take my advice and contact a public adjuster to review the claim. They get paid a percentage of the claim, so they run the cost up as high as they can get it. And they know how to work with the insurance company.

RE: Claim denied for lighting strike to motorhome?

I have some familiarity with this stuff, so let's see if I can help...
INSURING AGREEMENT - PART OF WHAT THEY SENT ME>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
A. We will pay for loss to personal effects caused by the following:
1. Fire or lightning;
This says they'll cover your damaged personal property; i.e. the TV. Personal property can be described as things you would take with you if you sold the MH.
Get a copy of your policy and get your agent to go over it with you. A separate section will talk about coverage of damage to the vehicle, and there will be a section on exclusions and "how we pay for a loss".
I'm concerned that somehow you don't have coverage on the vehicle - just on the contents of the vehicle. I say that because I've never seen a policy that doesn't cover damage due to lightning.
Before you contact an attorney you should talk to a Public Adjuster. They will aggressively handle the claim for you and they'll cost a lot less than an attorney. Probably do a better job, too, since that's their area of expertise.

RE: Entry door with glass you can see thru.

I replaced the obscure glass in my door with smoked Lexan. Had the Lexan cut at a local glass shop and installed it myself.

RE: Skimboards

Back in the early 60's while living in Key West, we'd cut out a skim board using 3/8" plywood and apply a little varnish. Locals referred to us as the Key West ripple riders. Wasn't much surf except right before a hurricane.:B

RE: yellow plastic vent -- paint it?

I used Krylon Fusion to paint all the yellowed plastic on my TT (except the refrigerator vent - why wasn't it yellow?) 3 or 4 years ago. It still looks great!

RE: Washing the TT

Awesome cleaner available at Family Dollar and Dollar Tree stores. Great for black streaks. DO NOT USE ON THE ROOF!
Awesome (10:1 dilution) removed the black streaks and some of the paint from my Prowler! Test it first.

RE: Ways to make the jack-knife sofa/bed more comfortable?

Buy a memory foam topper - probably 1 1/2 or 2 inches thick. You may also need a crack filler. Use some of the memory foam if it's too wide. Otherwise a swim noodle or some pipe insulation might work.

RE: Wilson RV Cell Phone Booster

I bought a Wilson #801212 Dual-Band system. I use it for both my cell phone and my air card at the same time. It doesn't connect to either one. I lay the inside antenna on the desk next to the aircard and the phone, and use a bluetooth with the phone.
They also have models with an inside antenna that will re-broadcast to several phones over a larger area.
My external antenna is on a temporary mast to get it above the roof of my TT, but I've also simply stuck it on the rear bumper. It does an excellent job of bringing in poor signals. I also use it in the car, at the hunting camp, and I've used it in hotels with poor wifi.
Keep in mind that it won't 'create' a good signal where one doesn't exist. Also, I've seen cases where the number of bars is improved but the internet speed is still unuseably slow. I assume in this case the tower does not have a good internet connection.

RE: Mosquito aversion

What about if we high-tailed it to the northern Maine/New Brunswick area and hung out there til, say, September. What could we expect there over the summer months, skeeter-wise?
That would put you in black fly country. Not much of an improvement over mosquitos, although they're easier to deal with.

RE: Battery Leads: Color +/-

There's only two ways to install the battery, right? Typically the cables will fit easily only if you put it in the way you took it out. Use this as a check on your original assumption.

RE: Ducted a/c, turn on and styrofoam comes out. ANTS GONE!!

2009 Bounder and just had styrofoam with some wood chips come out rear ceiling vents when I turned on the a/c. I'm thinking in the assembly process a screw was driven through wood and into the duct releasing the bonding of an area of the styrofoam resulting in breakage that will undoubtedly continue.
Anybody run across this? If so, how was it handled?
I've got a 2000 Prowler that I bought in 2006 that does it. I decided it wasn't worth the effort to diagnose and fix. The previous owners had an obvious mouse problem so I attributed it to that.
Less us know what you find out. I'll not only Xerox it, I'll Scotch Tape it to the wall. :B

RE: 2010 Tahoe + Passport 2650BH = good match?

To the OP:
Here's my rig, which tows well, for you to compare with yours:
2006 Tahoe with 5.3 V8, towing package & WDH
GVWR: 6,800 (500 lbs less than yours)
Trailer towing maximum 7,000 lbs IIRC (1,200 lbs less than yours)
Prowler 24J
Dry Weight 4,400 lbs (489 lbs less than yours)
Hitch 720 lbs (actual)
Loaded with driver: 10,920 lbs
Tahoe: 6,280 lbs
Prowler: 4,640 lbs
It tows great - no sway (and no anti-sway gadget). Good acceleration and 9 to 10 mpg at 60 to 65 mph. I expect to get flamed by the weight police for saying this, but the way I look at the numbers you're in pretty good shape. You've got a little more weight, and a little more capacity to handle it.
