RE: Wheel bearings

What kind of greese do you guys reccomend.
When I had my 5er I used the Mobil-1 full synthetic high temp bearing grease. Got a small tub of it at Auto Zone. Lasts for years. Great stuff.....

RE: Tow Vehicle question

I have been a Ford fan for many years. I have a 2008 V-10 and love it. I drive a 2004 Ford V-10 at work and have never had a problem with it.
We also have many 2008 Ford deisel pickups at work. I will NEVER buy a Ford diesel engine. One of them just blew an engine with 15k miles on it. Ford said it had an injector problem and 3 pistons "melted" according to the Ford dealer. Started talking to other departments in the city that uses them and every one of the Ford deisel engines are having problems. I'd be wary of the Ford deisel engines if I were you. Just my 2 cents.....

RE: trailer advice requested

If I were you, if you're absolutely set on an RV, I'd go with a used class C motorhome. You can get a relatively newer low mileage one for the same money and you wouldnt have the stairs to climb. The stairs in a fifth can be very steep, and I'm not even talking about the entry/exit steps. A huge plus for you would be no hitching or unhitching. The class C's have come a long way. I sold my 5er a while back. I don't plan on getting another RV, but if I did I'd seriously consider the class C.
It would also be a lot safer for you. If you have to stop along the road, you don't even need to get out to get to your camper.....

RE: Trade may be in our future

I went back to the dealer on Friday and got an additional $1000 off and signed the papers. We are camping next week so will pick it up 9/27 and did like a previous poster said and did the 3.75% loan. We can pay it off at any time but I feel better to have the money in the CDs right now even tho not getting much return.
I think you made the wise choice. You may not be making a lot on those CD's, but you're not losing either. Gotta feel good knowing you still have the $$ in the bank too.....

RE: Trade may be in our future

The way I look at it, and maybe it's just me, is leave your money in the bank. I'm not saying not to buy it if you can afford it, but having a brand new (paid off) 5th wheel sitting in your driveway means what? It means that you have A LOT less money in your bank.
I hate paying interest on purchases if I can help it, but in this economy it is better to have all the cash on hand that you can. If you get tired of making payments down the road and just have to pay it off, hopefully you'll still have the money in the bank to do it. Me myself, I just couldnt justify taking all that money out of savings to buy a camper. Like I said, maybe that's me.....

RE: Stuck in the Yukon - New or Used

I'm curious as to why you need a new engine. I've never owned a diesel but have heard they don't even break in until 100k miles. Did you buy it new or used? 154k miles is a very short life for a diesel engine. Is this business you're dealing with on the up-and-up?.....

RE: Folding step railing

If you have a bicycle sales/repair shop in your area, they carry pretty much the same thing for bicycles. I bought a 2 pack for around $10. I cut the old one off with a razor blade and used dish soap to get the new one on. It is kind of a pain but take your time.....

RE: Replacement panel/fender

I don't think Keystone will ship to you. At least they wouldnt for me. Call and ask them. I know they will ship to your nearest dealer but the shipping charges are pretty steep for some reason. I damaged the left front fender and some slide molding on my first trip out. If you are handy, do the work yourself. I had to re-do the work the dealer did. These workers have no clue what they are doing.....

RE: Best way to sell a Superglide 24k hitch?

Put it on Craigslist and save yourself the hassel. Put "must pick up" in the add or "will not ship". When you start getting in to out-of-state transactions you're gonna get ripped off.....

RE: Cross member fails on 05` Cougar

Question two: What good is it to produce a failure-proof RV if no one can afford to buy it?
Question three: how much more would it really cost to build a safe frame? For the most part, or from what I gather, the failures are caused more from bad welds than anything else. Would it really be that hard for Lippert to fix the problem? I think not. Why we keep reading about these same problems year after year is beyond me.....

RE: Hot water heater maint

The absolute first thing you need to do (before storing again) is flush your entire fresh water system with bleach and water, including your hot water heater. Leave the water and bleach solution AT LEAST over night and then fill with fresh water and flush. Make sure you run the bleach and water through all your lines, including the toilet. I'd flush with fresh water two times.
Your anode is fine. It looks the way it's supposed to. But if it makes you feel better, go buy a new one. They are cheap.
NEVER leave water in your hot water heater during storage. That is the reason for the rotten egg smell. Take your anode out so the tank gets air and dries out. I also never leave water in the fresh water tank.....

RE: Battery

Go to Costco and get you a group 27 deep cycle battery for around $70. I had two of these in my 5er because I mainly dry camped. They are a great battery for the money. If you mainly camp where there's hook-ups, you will be fine with one since it's just a 5er emergency brake battery anyway.....
