RE: Mosquito aversion

Once we were down by the lake my wife commented on all the smoke. Once we got closer it turned out to be all mosquito's. I stopped the car under them and was covered by them within seconds. Turned on the wipers to see even.
When we were away from the lake there wasn't a problem at all.
Oh, that's fabulous! I'd show this to the wife but she'd probably run screaming off into the sunset, never to be heard from again!
Well my wife had the exact same feelings at that point in time. Good news is once we left the lakeshore there was no problems at all. From the bridge we then spent a few nights along Hwy 2 on our way to MN. No issues at all, but it was early May and the lows were in the 40's.

RE: Opinions on 1997 Georgie Boy Cruise Master

Also, GBM did an excellent job at tank placement back in the day. For old gassers, they drive very well when fully loaded.
What sold me on our our Cruise Master when we first started to MH was the frame construction. To date no delam, or leaks anywhere.

RE: Toilet seal fixin'

What I do is take a scrape piece of wood and cut out a "T" from it. The base is the width of the toilet opening. I then place the bottom of the "T" into the hole, and the top of the "T" stops it from falling thru.
Don't know if this will work with your toilet or not.

RE: Stainless Steel Connector Drinking Water Hose

This past year who ever makes our standard blue/white drinking safe water hoses must be having them made in Bangladesh now! I have gone thru 3 of them in one year because of them leaking at those cheap connectors. The 4th and last one I just bought the first time I hooked it up it sprayed water all over...
I had the exact same results this winter. I bought them at Walmart and returned them for a new one each time. This last one seems to be holding (knock on wood.)

RE: Opinions on 1997 Georgie Boy Cruise Master

We snowbird in a 96 GBM Cruise Master for the last five years. Has a 460 in it, the now famous forum 16 inch tires and brakes.
While everyone keeps writting about things that they don't like on old gasser's, we just keep rolling and making Kodak moments with ours. Just got off the road after 6K miles and six months.
If the price is right, go for it. Thing you need to keep an eye on is the rubber roof and that it is sealed correctly. The end caps mostly on a Cruise Master were a weak link.
Like any older MH, you need to be handy. If it's been in the sun expect all the plastic stuff to be brittle. For an example, on the trip back while driving on LA very rough roads the hold down screws pulled right thru the plastic dash on ours (only issue on the trip back.) I had to repair it on the road in Natchez, cost less $20 and took a few hours of my time. Depending on how handy the owner is that could have been a show stopper for some.

RE: Mosquito aversion

FWIW,
Last week we were in the UP and spent a night at the casino in Sault Ste. Marie. We decided to take the toad and do a little sight seeing.
Once we were down by the lake my wife commented on all the smoke. Once we got closer it turned out to be all mosquito's. I stopped the car under them and was covered by them within seconds. Turned on the wipers to see even.
When we were away from the lake there wasn't a problem at all.

RE: f-53 brake overheat

hey guys tks for input turns out the e brake was part way on and way out of adjustment...
The e-brake would not make the hub hot (at least not on a 460 F53.) I'm sure you just broke the caliper free and it "may" have the issue again when it sits for awhile. I have been down this path a few times now.
As a sidebar. If your e-brake was on for awhile as you drove you may want to check the fluid level in the e-brake. Once that goes then you're looking at a $400 plus repair job.

RE: ADVICE FOR A NEWBY

Do as others have said, but my 2c's is all RV's are cheaply made regardless the price you pay. The only difference is the more you spend, the more the cheapness is covered up.
RV's really don't have quality controls placed on them. The owners are the QC. I've never heard of a RV maker taking their unit onto 1,000 miles of bumpy roads then taking the unit apart to see what failed. Yet in the lifetime of the unit that is exactly what will happen.

RE: What do full timers do to NOT become bored with life style

...I get the impression you are going to be a young retiree. Don't be surprised if you are turning down jobs left right and centre...
Never thought about it before, but you are right. Almost every campground that we spend a month or more at I get approached with some sort of a "soft" job offer. Needless to say the pay is never on par with my old working career, but if you're looking to just keep busy who cares.
BTW, you stated to "STAY FIT." We attempt to walk a couple of miles, but that isn't enough (I love to eat out.) You have a secret on how to stay fit while on the road you want to share?
To the OP, we parttime. We seem never to get bored, when we do I guess we just call it ""hitch itch" and move on to the next place. I think a person gets bored more often when they have a lifestyle that can't be moved down the road to someplace new and different. Then you're forced into creating something to fill in the voids of what has now become a routine.

RE: The old girl is back - where to start

This won't be very popular, but does anyone else shake their head at this thread and others that glorify spending more hours working on a Class A then spending time driving them?
Sounds like to me the intent is to restore a Class A and then drive off happy ever after. Seems like that never happens since the fun for some is the working on them, and not the use of them.
Again different strokes for different folks, and if that floats your boat so be it, it's just that I don't get it. There are so many things to restore, why a Class A? A person will never recover the time spent or money put into a MH restore.

RE: What's your rig(+toad) and what's your MPG?

F53 33 foot no slides 460 towing a Saturn SC2. All stock
Never keep track of MPG till this spring and then only once. Given a 25+ mph tail wind, doing 2400 rpm's (about 62 mph) I got 10 MPG.
I use the toad to explore, and the 460 to get me there and house us. To fill up from 1/4 tank is $200. After a full day of driving I'm back at 1/4 tank. The real question for me is how many days can I drive back to back without camping for awhile.

Have one own my '96 Cruise Master. So far so good. The white is starting to leave showing black spots. When I called the company they said it is warranty for 10 years but will easily go 20.

RE: F53 Flexible Brake Hose Replacement procedure?

Okay, Eric, John and Joey. Let's meet at my house tomorrow morning at 9am, and when you've helped me get this darned hose off, we'll cut it apart and post photos of it.:B:W
It's a deal, I'll even buy the first round.
Right now I'm on the road and can't post the picture of my '96 F53 up on jacks with all four tires off due to the calipers sticking from an emergency stop I had to do in Florida so as not to hit a couple of bikers that cut me off. That was my first year with the rig, and since then I have greased all the pins, then replaced all the calipers and also the fluid.
So needless to say, this topic is near and dear to my heart, that's why I'm asking so much.

RE: F53 Flexible Brake Hose Replacement procedure?

My 97 Ford Class A had nothing but brake problems from day one. My repair man suggested the brake hose issue. Changed them, no more problems. He cut one apart, yes, it was swollen shut in the middle.
Thanks for the input.
I'm really surprised that Big K hasn't stepped into the thread. He went thru all of the suggested fixes and never fixed the problem until he bought a DP.
Nothing wrong with PM that's for sure. If the hose does fix the one heating brake please post back. If everything else is serviced, then that would be the end answer. If once the hose was off could you also please do the cut apart and photo for the rest of us to see.

RE: F53 Flexible Brake Hose Replacement procedure?

Again I ask why do you feel like you need to replace it? Someone else on this forum made a few statements about what "might" happen. I have read these same statements before on this forum, yet never known anyone who had proof that they caused an issue which was then fixed by replaceing them.
Will this thread be the first one that will prove that non-leaking hoses should really be replaced with hard evidence. If it is, I would really appreciate it since I have a '96 F53 and would like the knowledge. If it doesn't fix anything, please state that also. I know "BigKatuna" was fighting a sticky brake issue and the hose replacement did not fix the problem.

Just wondering what prompted you to replace the brake hoses? Can't help on the fitting since I have never replaced them.
