RE: water heater drips

Some water heaters are also installed with check valves in one or both lines which won't let air in by opening a hot faucet and the TPO valve.
Opening the faucet hot side is to relieve the pressure on system.
true
Opening the press/temp relief valve allows water to run out of top portion of heater..as the water runs out, air goes in.
:h Not so…
Hot water outlet line is lower than PRV so the air pocket is above outlet at top of tank.
yes it is and is why water needs to be drained from the tank to reestablish the air pocket...
Yeah OK......whatever
I so hear ya.

RE: Progreso, Mexico Dental Implant

...I wonder if anyone bashing the dentests in Mexico actully have had any work done there? Dozens of our friends also go there and I have not yet heard a complaint of any kind.
Funny you should say that. I have yet to use one, but I have never heard anything bad from those that have either.
What I find even more interesting is our Canadian friends would never even think about going to a US dentist when they are in Southern Texas (with a tooth problem.)
Some don't even like going to our US Doctors and putting up with all of the insurance issues that we have created in this country.
Think some people need to leave the US more and see the world to get a better picture of how things really work out there. Isolationism is not the answer.

RE: Who Wants To Be Our Virtual Advisor? :)

I enjoy looking at PPL to see what's out there and to kinda keep a mental value of what ours would bring at any given time.
I think I would ask around $250K for ours at PPL to see if there would be any takers. Never hurts to ask. They have an '08 Allegro Bus for $192,000 that probably listed for around $350,000 MSRP which if I used the same formula with our numbers, ours would be $250K asking price since our MSRP was $456K.
Looks like there are a lot of good units in the $40,000-$60,000 range to pic from that are nice and clean.
MM.
That isn't what the OP is asking. Please re-read the post and offer the knowledge that would help him in his search. Even if you need to PM him I'm sure he would appreciate your knowledge that you've gained from you 250K Class A.

RE: Minnesota Fishing Trip

last time I was there looked into getting an out of state license. was quite expensive and I decided against it. you may want to check out other states, SD, etc. Missouri had a by the day setup you could pick and choose any assortment of days you wanted. and they have "real" fish there.
bumpy
:S
You really don't fish a lot do you.

RE: water heater drips

The following is info from the Atwood service manual on how to properly establish the air pocket.
Step 1: Turn off water heater
Step 2: Turn off incoming water supply
Step 3: Open the closest hot water faucet in the coach
Step 4: Pull handle of pressure-temperature relief valve straight out and allow water to flow until it stops.
Step 5: Allow pressure-temperature relief valve to snap shut, turn on water supply and close faucet.
Finally......the easiest & correct way
Simply amazing isn't it.
To OP, just be careful the water in an attwood gets to be 140 degrees, so wait awhile after you turn off the water heater to be safe.

RE: Who Wants To Be Our Virtual Advisor? :)

Fire away J/J...or PM me...we are all eyes/ears....
I'll PM after the game or in the morning.
Till then remember if you're really going to take off for a year in a Class A of that size you're going to need a tow (toad) car. I would also suggest getting a braking device for it if you're really are planning on seeing the US (mountains/cities.)
So you will have additional expense of the car/tow bar/base plate for the car/and a brake. Add that into your overall expense.
John&Joey.... feel free to post your thoughts here as WE would all like to see what you have to say. :)
MM.
Naw, too many "experts" on the internet for me to even think they would like to see what I had to say. Do feel free to give the fine OP your thoughts on the topic so the rest of us can learn.

RE: Toilet Paper

Angel Soft toilet paper at Walmart.
X2 100%
Soft, strong, septic safe, and can be found just about everywhere. What you don't want is paper that will jam into the slide valve when you close it. Most slides are easy to replace, a few are a real PITA.

Take a look at Lake Mille Lacs.
If he's a little older and wants a fun trip to remember, give my buddy a call and take a fly fishing trip for small mouth bass down the river.

RE: Possible trade - Class A for an C and questions...

I'm in the same boat as them. I would like to trade our A for something more nimble also. My take is yes, an A is more to drive, and yes it is harder to get them worked on.
Not any mechanic is willing to lay on their belly inside the rig working on hard to reach parts with chairs in the way. Just call your local Chevy dealer and tell them you have a class A and you need a complete tune up on it. Give them the info on the tiffin and see what they have to say.
I broke down on the road once and the very first guy that I called said "I hate working on those things." That was an early eye opener for me. Then when I asked the local mechanic if he would swap out the air filter, he said "naw, that's just too hard too get too and I wouldn't feel right charging that much." He was pretty overweight and wasn't very agile though.

RE: Ultraviolet Exposure: what RVers Need to Know

Thanks guys.
Living at the lake in the summer then snowbirding is putting us in the sun a lot. It's so easy to skip the SPF 45 or tossing on a hat before going out. Hearing and "seeing" the effects hopefully will put a stop to that bad habit.

RE: Loud noise around den slide-out

Hopefully it was something so simple as a bird flying into then away from the 5'ver.
Worst case would be some sort of structual piece suffering a break while under load. Maybe prior to departure you should run the slide in and out to make sure there are no issues that you will have to deal with.

RE: Bad experience with Seafoaming a generator...

Did no damage. You just mixed too much SeaFoam into the gas. When it pulled hard the gas intake increased causing the white smoke. Good news is that you inadvertly decarboned the cyclinders by doing this. I'm guessing your genny is running like a top right now.
SeaFoam is also a gas stablizer, just read the can. Sta-bil is cheaper, but it does nothing to clean the engine.

RE: Stackable vs. combo washer dryer

The 'unvented' dryer air goes into the water drain and into the grey tank from what I understand.
It also requires up to 5 gallons per hour of cold water. This water is used to condense the hot (warm really) moist air. At least that is how my unvented combo works.

RE: Humidity level in RGV

Don't forget that Texas has many snowbird places. The RGV is just one of them (plus there is even and upper and lower RGV.)
Your wife may find the humidity level just right in the RGV, but not like the sugar cane ash that can happen during the winter in the RGV. This could bother her even more then the dry humidity of AZ.
So keep your options open if you do book for next winter in the RGV and don't commit to any one place for long term until you get a feel for the area.
BTW, I'm currently in the lower Valley (salt air) and I run a dehumidifier almost daily otherwise the fabric in the rig gets a sticky feel to it. Never needed to do that when we were in central Florida for the winter so from my perspective Florida is drier.

RE: Who Wants To Be Our Virtual Advisor? :)

I don't know if this is a good thing or not, but currently I'm just a simple Winter Texan.;)
The question I got for you is what are you wanting out of this RV. Do you want to see most of the USA during this year off, or do you plan on living in it while your next dream house is being built?
Also do you currently have a 3/4 ton Texas edition truck that you love? They make great pullers, and PPL has plenty of 5'vers that sell for a lot less, and won't lose much resale in only a year of use.

RE: Nylon plug on water heater broken

Just wondering, for those that never take the plug out, how do you clean out the HW tank. I am always amazed at the amount of "junk" that comes out of my tank when I flush it.
Just had a neighbor replace his 6 year old Surburn HW tank due to pin holes. Always replaced the anode in it, just never flushed it.

RE: Camping Too Much Trouble?.......How Sad

People (and couples) age different. Some get old in their minds way sooner then their bodies do. When that happens, lot's of things become "too much trouble."
I can understand their position, RV'ing does take effort. The real question is are they replacing it with something else to keep active, or just sitting in the house and taking naps out of boredom.
