RE: key won't turn in ignition

That happen in my Jeep once and it was a part that fell down inside. IT was a small plastic part so a quick blow with a hammer fixed it. Now the same thing happened in my Ford 450 Born Free. It took a hard pull on the wheel and I turned the key backward instead of forward and then I could turn it. Do not know why it happens but it does from time to time and that seems to fix it.

RE: Installing New "secondary" A/C unit

I would think you should be able to keep it cool. I am in Texas all the time and when I had my old unit with two roof AC s it kept it at 70 degrees easily. I have three roof airs now and it is still easy to stay at 68 with two but if i want to let them work a little less and not have any freeze ups if it is 100 or more I turn on all three units. Keeps the coach nice and cool. In fact my next motorhome will have four roof ac units. Now to answer a question. I use that portable unit I got at Lowes in my garage. I just put the exhaust pipe on the window edge and close it. The moisture goes out the window. It does not have to be higher than the window either but you only have about 3 foot of tubing to work with.

RE: Handicapped motorhome Project

FOretravel has made and makes a handicapped unit. THey have a door in the side that is a lift and they also put a rail system in the coach so that you can move from the bedroom to the front and not walk a step and it goes to the shower and the toilet and passenger seat as well. I know that FT makes a strong roof so there was nothing that had to be done extra to accept the rail system.

RE: Things to do - Gatlinburg/Smokies

If you guys are musically inclined, Wooden Strings in Townsend is great and on weekends they have the picked porch where you can play along with some of the best players in bluegrass.

RE: Charlottesville, VA Campgrounds?

I would use Misty Mountain in Crozet. The KOA is ok too but I like Misty mountain or North 340 in Waynsborro better.

RE: Campground Oops

If you drive and use these units enough you will ding them somehow. My last ding was in construction. THey had the barrels on two side of you. I hit with my front end on both sides at the same time. They made it too small about 2 miles in.... Maybe someone had just replaced it but I slowed down from 55 as I saw I was not going to fit but the van in front of me made it thru. I set the barrels blowing out both sides about 100 yards. Had to rum out a couple scratches.. I also hit the orange markers on one of the turnpikes by the toll booth. I hit again on both sides only with the mirrors so they made them a hair too tight. No damage but it was a bit worrisome going thru the actual booth waiting to hear the screech..

RE: Class A diesel pusher chassis....what's best

I have a Foretravel and its ride is great. It is very similar to the Monoco and CC rides. The outboard airbags are the reason. The Travel Supreme and the Newmars and those with IFS ride differently. FT switched to IFS and got rid of the outboard bags up front so went to Active Air but HWH to keep the same ride and handling... Drive the coach and take it on backroads and interstate and a rough patch and see how you like it.

RE: Des Moines paper reporting attempted purchase of Winnebago

This does not look good for the long term on Winnie. I will say that Airstream and Thor and a number of other companies are owned by private equity and they built the brands and expanded. I used to write on here about the demise of CC and Monaco and people did not want to hear it. Well, there is still way too much capacity in the RV industry. It still needs to lose a few players especially in the motorhome side of the business. It will happen with the next down turn or increase in interest rates. We have not fixed the housing industry and the investment world is tough as well. Increase taxes or increase in fuel prices or increase in interest rates or decline in the economy will force their hand and a number of other ones as well.

RE: Just a comment on this forum

Been on here a long time. Met some nice peope from here as well. Will say that the volume of new posts seems to have slowed down remarkably. I come here every so often now, not once a day like I used too so you can see the difference. Still it is a great site.

RE: Re-Chipping a Cummins 330 to 350

Did not recoup my coach but I jst put a resonator on in place of the muffler. Faster spool up more power and better fuel milage by almost .8 mpg based on Silverleaf. Most older Foretravels are doing it in the ISC and ISM configuration. I can also recipe my ISM to 500 but need a new turbo and attachment to do it. You need to check if it is the same for the ISC.

RE: Question...

My coach shifts into 6th gear at 62 mph. So, 65 is my sweet spot as I can set the cruise and stay in 6 th gear for the best fuel milage and distance covering.

RE: ? For Moderators and/or Marcus

Joined a while ago and it was much smaller then. The same questions get rehashed all the time. So, now I stop by every month or so instead of every day.

RE: delaminated side wall

It probably will not hold when the sun heats it up. You need to clean it off and start fresh by cutting in from the inside or outside.

RE: Motorhome Accident, I35 in NW Kanas

Very sad. It is to be expected though when you put a box on the back. The bus that went over the bridge was not destroyed. A full steel monocoque chassis can survive a lot. Driver may not depending on the situation. I saw a Foretravel after it rolled down a 90 foot embankment. The passengers walked away. They did total the rig but with the exception of the TV, everything stayed on the walls. After looking at the construction of the house part on the super C style coaches I will stay with a few brands of class A.

RE: Your coverage on covered items.

Well, it s nice to say you do that, but my experience shows a different outcome. They seemed to go to great lengths to deny claims tat were reasonable. I also have close friends who own an RV dealership and in conversations with their head of service he agreed that Good Sam has gone way down and are a pain to deal with. I have a client who will not accept it for payment either. The customer has to pay the full bill. He says that ESPs have reversed the payments. This is going to become a bigger issue as sales have been weak for four years and the RV installed base is aging. There will not be as many newer units in relation to the overall coverage universe and you will either have to pay more in claim or deny more and lose customers. The review process did not work and I am not going pay to see if you fixed it. I saw you made 3.9 million. That is great and I do wish you guys every success. I am not bitter but once bitten, I am not willing to try a second time. The numbers of people who drop over the years is a better indicator than saying you charged 1000 bucks and paid out one claim for 250 after deductible was paid.

RE: Your coverage on covered items.

I agree with wear and tear but pans are not suppose to crack. It was the drip pan that cracked and let the water in. They denied the coverage.

RE: Good Sams Pilot / Flying J discount card

Use the Discount RV card and my credit card. I get 5% back on the credit card so that is a greater savings especially at 4 dollar fuel.

RE: Freezing RV

Check and see if the heater bypass valve is turned. I have no issues with the coach even when I was driving in 9 degree weather. The dash heater worked just fine. I also turn on the furnace as well. I do not turn on the aquahot as the engine is running and the fluid is hot anyway. Not as hot as the AH will get it as I am about 180 degrees but it is enough to keep the whole coach warm. I do not have any major cold leaks though that may be the construction and style too. I have take three FT out without an issue in the winter. Now the Born Free is fine in the drivers side but the middle of the coach is cold where their is the vent for the fridge.

Your coverage on covered items.

I had the ESP on three RVs since 2001. We dropped the coverage a couple years ago. The AC units were leaking in to the RV. The pans under them had cracked or rusted thru. The claim was denied. THey had denied a couple other claims. I know in the beginning they were the best company to work with but then they start denying everything. So, I dropped it. In fact, I was quoted once as being a happy customer but no one seems to care that you do not really follow thru and deny things that are broken. It seems as though you are looking for a way not to pay for them. THat is ok, I understand that you are not going to make it up every year but you carry it for the bigger things. It does not do what it says it does and my RV dealer stopped pushing it too as they have had nothing but problems getting stuff approved. I know I have written to you or your secretary before on a survey on other things. You need to be aware that I had GS Insurance and ESP and Road Service. Now I have Coach net thru FMCA, a different insurance carrier and no ESP. You guys have a way of losing customers and that is not something you can afford to continue for long.
