RE: Correct way to level and stabilize...

Like above it all depends on what a person/ call level. Dishes sliding out of cabinets is one of several signs. Having to string a rope from one end to the other to get to the head to stay up right. Buying these heavy duty trucker flat bed Tye down straps in order to straping you and your wife into the bed, Note. make sure she is on the low side. I had her on the high side when we first started camping, the straps slip and she ended up on top of my head there one night. One * * of a way to wake up ! When the tong of the trailer raises up all on its own when the both of you forget & get up to go to the back, now that's a no-no. Both party's have to sit on the thrown to P** unless you want to get the mop. Stacking pillows under the low side your food trays. This is just some of the things from a seasoned newbie that I can pass on & you should consider to think about buying or making leveling blocks.
Then after years of having my wife hold down thee opposite side of the trailer whiles I gentlytest that first step on the steps to see if she needs more tires added around her neck for me to get in and sit down on that side of the wall,,,,,I bought one of these levels that are on the front of the trailers and attached in a parking lot to be level with a level. Then with experience I back into the space look at the level and can see how many of these block stacked or not, it takes to raise that side. Mark tires location, Pull out, place blocks, back right on in/on. Set tire blocking blocks. Front to back is with a tong jack. And after that, I send her into the wood to gather the fire wood, and to dig our latrine. life is good I sure does like this camping life style.

RE: '71 Starcraft Wanderstar- "The Hilton"

Maybe a bit to late, but before you place the windows into their framing You might have made a plastic U channel to surround the raw framing plus the thickness of the interior wall material.. That way any water intrusion would not have leaked into the wall's interior instead into the interior where it would be noticed. this same applies to the ruff roof openings/ framing, don't do as every one else has and just have the roof material folded down leaving the rafter exposed. Counter flash under this fold extend down below the wood, to just below the ceiling material. The same would apply here as to water leaking, sliding past the wood into the interior & noticed right away
Consider expanded foam for wall insulation. It encloses all air intrusion & is water repellent,,,,BUT, repeat BUT,,,do it in a shallow pass to began with, as if done in the way of house insulation it will bulge, as it expans, your thin exterior metal. Run your front to back inside wiring in a plastic channel in the interior upper corner of your trailer, easy accessible for all kinds of reasing, can be hidden with store bought wire enclose, and covered to a degree with cabinets. There is a wood sub flooring that is water resistant check out Advantech wood flooring.
Those low toilets in RV's can be raised by building a treated framing above the flanges & to the wall, to raise them the 17 1/2" chair height.

RE: Jayco owners surrond sound replacement

Hello Charles,
Nope that has a CD/DVD player all with a surrond sound, no Radio.
Ok !!! 3&acat, now with that explination I will try that. Will look those plugs up,,, I will be using the same input plugs on the unit but different plugs on the TV. Thus let's assume that the problem comes from the TV RCA plug & not the stereo that I had assumed. could save me alot of $'s.
It seems that Panasonic made a unit like what I was after called a SA-xr70 but it has been discontinued.
Thanks again for the input & taking the time.

RE: Jayco owners surrond sound replacement

BB_tx,~~ I will look into the panasonic.
3&acat,~~ The ear plug'ins on thia set are considerably smaller than the RCA jack there in the back. Some time I will go to bed and my wife wan't to catch the next day's new's/weather/or late night show. She has a 10' extensdion for the ead muffs head set, that plugs into the TV, cutting out its meserable speaker system. So in my case the ear plugs are way smaller......Thanks once again guy's,,,,fingers crossed will continue to look .

RE: Jayco owners surrond sound replacement

Thanks guy's for the answer's
Well it also has a AM/FM system that works beautiful, I have went to several locations looking for replacement none have AM/FM. The DVD play's & sounds the same way. Although when we bought it it needed a TV to fit in the designed area,(rather limited) and LOYL went to Walmart and found a TV on a supper deal, low & behold when we installed it, it had a DVD player built into the side., even a better deal since she was primary lookin at a certain size TV. So, don't use the one in the unit so much.
Now for the TV sound it's a Toshiba, and at the very top of the volume it takes hearing ads to here it,(bad) thus the plug into surrond sound search. Fellow's I have tried every combinations possable back there to no avail. Toshiba's instruction book, offers about the same, although kind of generic, instructions, still,,,,,? Would like to keep the AM/FM radio feature, there are times when that surround's FM music is nice playing in there as a background, and it's all there in one unit.

RE: R V Wholesalers

The question Robin1953, is how much extra ??
And this leads me to ask my self, I wonder just how much money does the manufacture of these trailers account for, in the figuring in their final cost to us, for the seemingly uncontrolable mistakes in their line's. As in your statement, you have already assumed that there is going to be a return.

RE: Which small/lightweight Trailer to get?

Several points I would like to point out here FuzzyBob, One is the wet bath. Ever time you convert it from a shower to a toilet, you will have to take a towel and wipe every thing down. Also if this is no concern, make sure you can stand and turn around to shower in front of that stool. Most do not., like wise can you sit comfortable, try it out do not just look.
Second; I like the idea that they are using a shower pan rather than a small narrow bath tub, in some units BUT using the Sunnybrook 5th that we also own and it has a rather large triangular shower stall in our 10 year use of our example. And from our experience in the smaller 19' Jayco travel trailer we own. Putting the water outlets in the middle of the side wall, rather then in the far corner, really restricts the movement in that shower. why they insist on some to do this *&^$%$#@ !!!!
Third; In those corner beds, VERY, VERY hard to make up the beds, keeping sheets & blankets spread over the whole bed, is a real chore. Climbing over each other is a hassle. Wall is uncomfortable next to ones body. Very hard to get to the back cabinets, get use to climbing onto the bed.
Four: forget the floor mounted table in front of the Sofia, it is a hassle in a smaller space & too many pieces, heavy to keep all corraled. The fold up legs is the one if you do not like light lap top storage serving trays. Some models have used the space behind the soffia for a designed storage for these, great idea, handy, if you can find that design
Five: forget carpet, throw rugs will do and a whole lot easier to clean.
Six; you will need a space for a drop-down counter extension, there is very little counter space.
Seven; make sure there is a re-enforced wall hanging place for the TV, and both of you to be able to watch it from all locations in that trailer. NOT by cranking you head 90 degree to you body's from your primary watching position.
Eight: storage space, on any lengthy trip you will find that you will need to store some goods in your TV. Take the storage space design into consideration on you floor plan, in your case & need's.

RE: Wall Anchors / Screws

I had the same situation on our shower in the Jayco, with studs spacing that I could not use on inside wall. I bought three 3/4" thick boards, two pine & the other oak oh some,,,,20" or so long by 2-3" wide. Ran them threw the router table to put a nice edge on all their edges. Primed & painted all sides of the pine boards white, found the one stud I could use & DRILLED (very important to keep from splitting the stud) threw the board into the stud to place one screw just to hold board in place tight to the ceiling..
Stained & sealed the oak board, had my wife hold the very outside edges against the other side of the wall & ceiling as I drilled threw the predrilled holes in the white board threw the wall and into the oak. Three sets of stacked two screws all across. Painted the heads. Coat hooks on/into oak side. The outside wall used 6 thin wall molly's with spacers washer's. Oh almost forgot, fastened the rod to these solid pieces of white wood.
The extra space that these two white boards boards took up inside of that shower walled area, made the fold able rod actually work a lot better allowing it to fold out further.

RE: Can't Find Leak - Help!

Well its pretty obvious from your post, that you can not tell from the roof where the water is coming in from. I would thing that since the ceiling material is pretty much toast anyways, that to take off all of the trim, lights & drop the ceiling. This would allow you also to see what wood roof structure & insulation waste & to access what the damage there is & needs to be replaced & also to trace the leak. It could be done in phases to cut down on flusteration, and if the original ceiling material could be pieced together in re constructing to make a template to cut in a new ceiling when finished. This would allow a much simpler replacement. Other wise the way I see it if you do not, you'all are just a gess'in.

RE: Cool Mods

Hey guy,
I whole harty agree on section 2 with your opinion. But when in Rome you have to do as the Romans do,,,,,,,,
But also there seems to be a constant changing of different campers opinion of what they would want in their rigs, here at this form. The taking out or putting in, kind of building a nest so to speak. Different strokes,,,, I would not think it would be that hard at all to sell your jackknife at all. Maybe the wait for the right person, but that's true in all kinds of sales.

RE: sway bars

If you are requesting a set up for your Trailer ~~~~
A couple of years ago we down sized and bought a 19' Jayco which is the actual box size, 21' length over all. The large Jayco dealer that did the set up & walk threw for us, said that in their opinion this small TT did not merit the cost of a Reece set up that I requested a price for. Rather go for the inexpensive friction type. I have had a friction set up before and threw talking with several campers this time wanted the dual cam Reese. I was not completely satisfied with the performance of the friction unit. Now maybe an over kill here, but in the 3 trips so far of aprox. 10,000 miles this dual cam set up over kill has not came back to haunt me at all, to the contrary.
As a side note, the best price I could find by far was at Etrailer in St. Louis Mo. and as it just so happened on the first trip we made with that trailer was to go to the Smokies, and had to go threw St. Louis. I bought & installed the whole unit, set it up, & checked it out, there in their parking lot.

RE: Help my black tank will not drain!!!!!!

Even with a "T" located just ahead at the outlet/valve location. This flushing el would still do you some good. The advice that our moderator BarneyS above gave you about a valve located aft of the clear el's outlet, is a very good one. When you close this lower valve leaving of course the valve to you rig open, this will create a swirling motion of the water as it is being forced into the tank, by holding back any drain. you can litterly see the water's motion.
I own the valve picture posted & bought the lower control valve from the same co. that fastens to the lower part of the el. By alternating ~~~ the valve closing. water on full blast to enter, wait a length of time watching thing swirling, shut water off, open valve/drain, close valve,,,repeat,,,,,,,,,,,,, you can sit there and get a whole lot of lower tank cleaning, and a plus if there is another flushing system aboard. It still allows you a window into how really clean any other system is.

RE: Manual operation of SLIDERS - Questions

A fellow contribuator came on here some time back, and posted that due to an insident that happen to him, it would be advisable to all to write near the point of inserting that handle which way was in or out.
Not to long ago we were at the campgrounds in Door county Wisconsin when that terrific storm came threw all night long and demolished alot including the power to the whole 6 state campgrounds on that pensula. This proved handy to us with just an hour to get out by orders from the DNR. If the slide is already extended, it takes a lot of effort to just get it over that starting "hump" to start the movement. If you do not knmow which way is the right way to turn ????????

RE: Do TT have furnace air filters?

Hey guys,
I aint saying what you should do or not do, it's strictly up to you as you paid for it. There are all kinds of people out there, a man soon learn's this, if he entered the field not knowing, soon after meeting the public one on one, at their front door, on the phone, or in the shop. Takes all kinds as the sayng goes. One size does not fit all.

RE: Do TT have furnace air filters?

Hi fellows,
Since HVAC was my career, the one think that comes to mind is the way the air is moved in most gas & electric furnace's. A very high percentage is with what is termed a squirrel cage blower. They are used in a # of such applications, another in RV's is your stove's top exhaust . Now,,,,if the blades cup become coated on the cupped side with dirt, and what one thing that enables this to create this circumstance is simply cooking in this confined space while the fan/s is running. In which A good filter normally would help elevate this. But also so does a HVAC teck., or simply the owner checking them on a routine base. But the question remains do they, (????) also this applies also applies to the home. Thus over time & going threw several ownerships it become a gradual loss of air movement. S over this time , what is the owner/s to com pair to? The efficiency of these blades is drooped dramatically over time, with this buildup. Now,,,, there has been many documented studies & scale drawings on this, if you care to insure it's truthfulness.
People here constantly complain of no air on the furthest side of their main trunk line ducted run's, with all kinds of possibilities. This is one that never comes up because threw the designing & supposedly wisdom of the heating system (& an almost impossibility to gain access to,) of the manufactures it does not say it is necessary. But does that really make it so?

RE: Tire Monitoring System

I bought the same unit 507, had a bit of trouble to began with in the initial set up with the monitor to the tire sensors. Call the factory #, and actually got the owner at the other end. He ran us threw a re-programing for all four sensors/monitor,,,,,, and for 2,222 (actual millage) on the trip to Wisconsin it/they all read perfect.Tires pressure & their temp.. I put together a mount on the dash using an older radar windshield mount ,using the custom fit base for the monitor they provided in the base order. l Found a location close to one of my Chevy's truck 12v plug In's. Used it/12v. Thur out the trip.
So far glad we picked the 507. I figure it just was a glitch some where & in all electronics this could accrue. If the owner knew the product that well & was willing & ABLE to extend his time & his personal knowledge of the system, to actually solving the/my problem. Not only then & for a short fix, but for more than 2 weeks on the road. Then just maybe, my trust in TST over the other three that I had narrowed it down to, was a good one. At this point I'd buy another.
Consider this, if I was to buy one of these directly from China from one of their distributors there, that have these multi offers on the web. Then in my circumstances there at the beginning of our trip setting the system up. Who or even where, would I have called then ????????
