RE: KVH In-motion satelite

It's like a cell phone...you have to have a subscription to something so it will work. So you will need a subscription to Directv or Dish in order for it to work.

RE: Packing for 3 week trip

If you travel for 5 days going West, it will take you 5 days to get back, leaving you 5 days so see the sights...unless where you're going is closer and then you'll have more time to relax and enjoy.
Campfire things, forks, marshmellows, hot dogs is a must. Maybe a few movies in case it rains and you're stuck inside. You can never have too many snacks or fruit. Plan on cooking more outside so have a griddle, BBQ grill, etc.
Have extra water hose and sewer hose just in case along with elecrtrical adapters. Boards for leveling & wheel chocks.

RE: JAYCO Legacy 5th wheel Water Pump

In my Jayco Legacy, it's in the bottom door of my desk. They tend to stick items in unique spots.I have a rear kitchen with a desk.

RE: How do they get to 1M?

The new Newels & Prevost are 2 million plus. They are built for show and glitter but not practical. On the other hand, Foretravel is a million plus unit built one at a time to your specs. Liveability, storage, pantries all useful. You get what you pay for, hand crafted cabinets, desks, storage...I would pay the extra for quality instead of quanity.

RE: No Fuss Flush

More than anything, you have blockage at the valve. Always, always put more water every time you flush. The tank should be 2/3 water and 1/3 waste. Then when you open the valve the force of all that water sucks most stuff out. Look how much water is used in a regular toilet to flush....same with an RV toilet...except you have to hold a lever down for a while every time to add enough water for it to empty properly.

RE: What Will We Need to do to Our New TT Before the First Use?

When parked at home, make sure everything works or you know how to use it....hot water heater (elec & propane) water pump, furnace, light the stove, open and close the awning, refridge (elec & propane) how to dump the tanks....you can never have too much water in the black tank...don't end up with a pyramid in your black tank. check all outlets, air conditioner....never too much information

RE: Costs

You can cut a lot of costs by helping out in campgrounds/parks. Almost all give you free camping for 12-24 hrs of work. Others will pay an hourly wage, free propane, free laundry & a completion bonus. If campgrounds don't interest you, there are lighthouses, See's Candies, Hickory Farms, Amusement parks (Dollywood,Disney Parks & Silver Dollar City) to mention a few. No matter where you go, food will be a constant along with insurance (Medical & vehicle) You will need a cushion for breakdowns & dental. The longer you can stay parked in one area cuts down on traveling costs.

RE: 50 amp and 30 amp service

You can run your air, you just might trip the breaker if you turn on the micrwave, toaster & hair dryer at the same time. I always carry a reducer allowing me to step down from 50 to 30 amp. Many state & national parks are only 30 amp along with some older campgrounds. Not a problem at all.

RE: RV parks near Phoenix AZ

Look on www.rvparkreviews.com and look at Apache Junction parks.
The area caters to the snowbirds so some parks have a "no older than 10 year" restriction, fee for pets, and other stupid rules. They fill up fast in the winter months and are bare in the summer.

RE: What would a good price be...

That's like asking "What's a good price for a 1/2 ton truck/" Too many variables but check out the blue book prices....smoker? Pets? Hail Damage? water damage? has it been used traveling or parked on a lot for 12 years. Axles/brakes could be rusted, undercarriage & roof are big factors. Furnace work? hot water heater? air conditioner? Unless you're only going to use it a couple of times a year, I'd upgrade to a better unit in the 15,000 to 20,000 price

RE: Lubricating black and grey water tank dump valves

I added a grease zerk to the flat side of the valve...shoot some grease in there, work it back and forth...works smooth....if it feels a little sticky, just shoot a little more grease

RE: Tow ing a boat

In 19 states it's illegal to triple tow. Usually 65' is max length for towing also. You MUST have a seperate braking system, safety chains & additional insurance rider (If your insurance will cover the boat behind the trailer) To me it's not IF you have a wreck...it's WHEN you have a towing problem....once that starts whipping, it's no stopping it....a sure wreck.....You'll get many pro & con on this subject....it's been beat to death

RE: Towing behind a Tow Behind?

Mainly on the East coast, it's illegal to tow something behind a fifth wheel or trailer...19 states is illegal...others have restrictions as in total length, seperate braking system & additional insurance cost/rider if allowed. Many do it but you'll get a host of pro/con on this subject....If I see a triple tow, I'll pull off the road and let them get way ahead of me...I feel unsafe being behind an accident waiting to happen.

RE: Yellowstone National Park

East entrance into Yellowstone from Cody didn't open up until July 4 last year.....snow....many campgrounds didn't open up until after that as the snow was deep. They could plow the roads but couldn't clear every campsite.

RE: how important limit lenght 30ft for camping options

We've been full timing and traveling for 6 years with a 36' RV and never had an issue with length. Unless you're planning on very remote state parks or areas located deep in the mountains/hills, you should never have an issue with 30' or more. I've seen more issues with the 40'-45' units trying to park and manuever in areas.

RE: Paying to get Work Kamping Info?

Save your money as they post job openings early in the morning and if you don't check your email until 10 am or later, most jobs are taken. In 6 years we have never obtained a job through KOA or Workamper.
I pick an area I want to be in for the summer like Olympia, Washington. I Google the campgrounds in the area and send an email asking if they use or need assistance for the summer. I always include a picture of ourselves..that way they know about what we look like right away. If they respond back asking for more information, then I send a resume with another picture and go from there. Two places we worked had never used workampers before and when they saw the picture and info, they hired us...was a great summer.

RE: Any rules against Wal Mart camping in Sterling, VA

Walmart managers know that's legal or not....just as in any Walmart, if there aren't any signs in the parking lot, you need to ask permission. Or you can Google the store and get the phone number to call and find out...don't go by "I think they allow it" be sure.

RE: Weight Stations and RV's

No ticket as they were making anyone who was pulling a trailer go into the station. I did see them giving tickets to people with unsafe loads of trash not covered and not having loads secured (straping down 4 runners and bobcats} I would like to see more of this as too many times things come flying off a load, especially ladders.
