RE: LEAF PACK UPGRADE OR SUMMO SPRINGS

Hopefully that 1k price tag was for entirely new leaf spring packs and the labor included for their installation. I can buy a set of medium duty leaf spring packs from Stengle bros for around $700 (Springs cost closer to $500, the last $200 is for shipping). The leaf springs will also outlast the Sumo springs in terms of durability, nothing will last better than an actual steel leaf spring. Me, I will be adding the BDS add-a-leaf kits to my front and rear packs to compliment the Air Lift air springs currently on the truck.

RE: Does this classify as a TC?

Nope, that's an old Toyota Dolphin Mini-Class C that's had the truck cab removed and a chopper front attached, still a motorhome :).

RE: First rot

Minwax Wood hardener, available at any hardware store in the Stain section. Need to dry the wood before applying, simply apply repeating coats until the wood dries glossy. Used this effectively to repair damaged wood in my parent's Thor Tahoe Toyhauler and to protect the new wood that we installed to replace the material too far gone.

RE: Anyone running a tankless water heater?

Just a reminder for those that are interested in the tankless units, here's the price points for the two main brands out there: Atwood (available in 45,000 and 50,000 BTU units) Price: $999-1100 Girard (available in max of 34,000 BTU single unit) Price: $450-600 You need to google around...... Atwood 45K BTU - $740 w/ free shipping Atwood 50K BTU - $780 w/ free shipping Girard - $488 w/ free shipping and also says it come with a free Oxygenics shower head right now I found those here: Tankless Water Heaters The atwood's are on a pre-sale (usually like a Pre-order meaning they don't have any units to ship yet), and the Girard that is a winter-compatible unit is $564, not $488.

RE: Tankless HWH retrofit???

KATYSDAD Thanks, I assumed that they were like house on demand water heaters that were 120 volt. I didn't realize that you could do on demand with gas ... learn something everyday. There has been electric and gas home on demand units for a number of years now, alot of the Oregon State Parks use the gas models in their bath houses (One whole home heater per 2 showers).

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Got the camper loaded and heading to Florence, OR in the AM for the Rhodadenderon festival in florence. They put on a pretty decent parade and the car show at the Three Rivers Casino is good too. Looking forward to a little fun and sun. J Well, you'll get around 3 days of sun, Monday Oregon reverts to liquid sunshine for another week or two or three.

RE: Replacing the truck due to cell phones

I love the Alison trans and don't want to mess with Ford until they figure out that the 7.3 was the best thing they had going. Sorry to hear about your accident, but what does Ford have to do with any of it? :R I may have to buy a new truck and want to make sure I get a reliable one. Fords, IMHO, are the best looking trucks out there but the record on reliability since switching motors scares me. Positive input is always appreciated, though. If you want guaranteed reliability and a diesel engine, don't go any newer than 07 (And older on Fords to get the good 7.3), all of the smog engines from there on have gone through various expensive growing pains. I figure by 2017, they'll have it finally sorted out.

RE: Fuel Mileage

Can't remember if I replied to this thread or not, but been getting between 7-8 mpg, leaning more towards 7 since around 2009. Used to get around 8-9 regularly back around 2007, but it dropped off after that, I'm wagering that it was mostly due to the ethanol mandate our governor put in place at around that time, before then you could still get closer to straight gas. Anyway, all traveling miles are generally at a top speed of 50-55mph.

RE: Has anyone mounted a truck camper on a flatbed trailer ?

And when it's all said and done, you'll still need the truck to properly pull it. So, like a previous person who brought this up, if you think that you're going to get magic better fuel economy by trying to move a large camper with an undersize tow vehicle, just stop yourself right now :).

RE: Replacing the truck due to cell phones

Glad you were not hurt more, just think of what would have happened if you were not in your truck but in a small car. That very reason was why I drove my pickup trucks as daily drivers from 2003 to 2010, I was in a low speed collision with my old Plymouth Acclaim and the frame of that car buckled like a pop can, skyrocketing fuel prices forced me into driving an economy car again. There was a thread I think on this forum several months ago about the cellphone topic over in ATC, I made my suggestions on what to do about the problem there, and got balled out over it, though given how all of the latest laws regarding cellphones are basically being ignored by the majority, that suggested solution is still what I consider the best alternative.

Oh, I forgot to add, drove my truck yesterday in to work to haul back a load of lumber for a project out at the RV Park. :)

RE: Wanna know how bored I am right now?

You need Minecraft to stir away your boredom, nothing like randomly generated infinite worlds with the ability to build to your hearts content to keep the boredom away (I've been working on designing the circuits to drive an automated smelting system that loads its fuel and materials from several freight cars and then deposits the finished products into another set of freight cars). :).

Sure was little! Just like those pictures :). Hey, I'm a newb at this. Couldn't figure out how to blow them up. Sorry. A link to their source would allow any of us to lend you a hand :).

RE: So what did you do to your Truck Camper today?

Hit the wood with some Minwax wood hardener as well, it embeds epoxy resin into the wood fibers and makes them water proof. If you know someone with an old squirrel cage blower from a furnace you can rig up a pressurization system to do a leak trace on your camper using soapy water.
