RE: Why Dont You Put Out Your Awning?

We put ours out if needed. Sometimes it is out for several days, sometimes we don't put it out at all.

RE: Waxing an RV - has anyone actually tried it - and should I?

I use Race Glaze 2-4 times a year.
I saw it recommended on this site several years ago, it can be tough to find but it works wonders and is very very easy to put on a take off. I can do our entire fifth wheel with one bath towel.
I usually watch for 3 nice days. Will wash and dry one evening, wax the front cap and back side the next night and finish the rear cap and door side the 3rd night.

RE: Courtesy from other drivers when pulling RV

I just make it as easy as possible for other people to pass.
Here's a couple of the things I do:
Hug the white line, but never cross over it. This allows people to see around me better, w/o kicking up (too much) **** (left on the shoulder) at the driver behind me.
2nd when I know there is an additional passing lane coming up, I will not speed up, in fact, if I see alot of cars behind me I will slow down in the extra lane so as many of the cars as possible can get ahead of me. Unfortunately in Alberta & BC a common practice is for everyone to speed up when they see a passing lane, yes even the "slow" rv person.
I do this often, especially on 2 lane roads with dashed yellow passing zones. Even if I am going the speed limit if there are cars that want to pass me I will slow down to let them get around me and back in our lane quicker. The only time I may not slow down is if it will screw me up for an upcoming hill. As long as I am maintaining the speed limit I dont get overly concerned with the people following me, but if they are passing I dont want to see a head on collision.

RE: Any hikers out there?

WhiteBlaze.net is my favorite. Yeah it is geared towards the AT, but they cover a lot of other trails and hiking in general.

RE: Charcoal grilling, what is your favorite way while camping?

I carry a Weber Smokey Joe - small kettle style, that I use for some cooking. I also have a grill that goes over a fire ring, if we are planning a fire i will occasionally use the charcoal in the fire ring then just use it to build the fire. If the fire is already going I may just cook over the fire or if we are conserving wood i will add charcoal for cooking. I carry a small propane grill too, just in case none of the above is viable :)
Yes i like options when i am cooking.

RE: Souvenirs

T-shirts. Because they can (and are) used afterwards.
Occasionally a walking stick badge for the kids' walking sticks and occasionally a decal for my storage bins. I have rubbermaid bins for hunting, fishing and hiking gear and like to decorate them.

RE: Rod and Reals

Fly rods are carried in their tubes and stored under the bed, spinning rods stand up in the shower.

RE: Kids and RV's while underway.

Before we bought our trailer we went with the inlaws in their motorhome a few times. The kids' car seats were strapped into the swivel rockers and the swivel rockers were latched in place so they didnt swivel. This worked out very well. I guess the only problem would be if you didnt have any standalone seats.

RE: Bunkhouse

So how much off the MSRP did you get on the Open Range? They seem well built, but more expensive than a comparable Montana Mountaineer or Heartland....
I wanna say mid-20s, it was a year ago, i would have to pull out the paperwork to say exactly.
I think it was still a tad more than the others, but the Mrs. liked it better and as they say "Happy wife..."

RE: Bunkhouse

We considered almost all of the available bunkhouse models. In the end, my wife liked the looks of the Open Range 399BHS the most and the dealer met our price.
We could have easily ended up in the Sierra, the Cedar Creek Silverback or the Elk Ridge as they all made the shortlist. Surprisingly one that was on the first list but didnt make the final cut was the Montana due to a few things we just didnt care for when we finally walked through it.
The floor plans are similar from manufacturer to manufacturer, you really need to look at them all and decide which works the best for you
