RE: What would you do?

Relax and enjoy your stay. They just put that in the rules so they have the option to turn away someone driving a piece of junk. Lots of parks do this.

RE: Out West

I have traveled all over the west. My personal favorite is SW Colorado (Silverton & Ouray). The rich folks have not found it and messed it up. Really!!! Now you have found it and revealed where to go, I'm packing up and and heading there next week.!!!! Oh! Oh! I guess I can't do that until I get rich!:W I will translate for you. It is not covered with condos and chain hotels. No private jets setting at the airport (I don't think I even saw and airport).

RE: Out West

I have traveled all over the west. My personal favorite is SW Colorado (Silverton & Ouray). The rich folks have not found it and messed it up. Beautiful country, there is a Jeep for rent on every corner. Rent one and you can explore the back country for days and never see it all. Hwy 550 from Durango to Ouray is a must do. I would then head up to Yellowstone/Tetons and spend the rest of your time there. These are the places I have been multiple times and love to go back to. I am heading back to SW Colorado in a month or so. You can easily spend a month at these two places.

RE: Campground observation (Times have changed)

Hey Rick & Joan. I was not complaining, for the most part we had a good time. I stopped and asked the guy working on his truck if I could do anything to help. We love dogs but all the dogs off leash was a little much. We had tons of fun here when I was young. It was/is a great park and yes they have made lots of improvements. It's just some need to learn to follow the camp rules and leash and pickup after their pet. We were very uncomfortable walking our small dog. Mostly I was just observing how things have changed in the last 35 years, some good and some not so good.

Campground observation (Times have changed)

Trying to post with no luck, just get an error message. Well this one works but tried to copy and paste here and it will not work.. Can you copy and paste out of Microsoft Word? Hey it works now, anyway here is my post. We took the MH up to Northwest AR this weekend to use as a base for some craft shopping as this was spring craft fair weekend. As it turned out it was a little too hot for us on Saturday so we called it a day early and decided to head out to Horseshoe Bend COE park on Beaver Lake and spend the night. Years ago our family would meet here for a week long reunion and campout but it has been about 30 years since I last stayed here. My have times have changed. Back then most of the boats on the lake were small fishing boats and some ski boats that would run 30 to 35 mph. Saturday afternoon the lake was buzzing with boats and personal water craft running around. I would guess a lot of them running 60 to 70 mph and loud. The campground was totally different as well. Don’t get me wrong, I am not judging here, just making an observation. This is a huge campground, very nice and right on the water and there were only 4 sites left when we arrived. Most sites have electric only and some have water and electric. Back in the day it was mostly tents with a few travel trailers and the occasional MH. This weekend there were still lots of tents but mostly travel trailers and some motorhomes. Maybe I don’t remember how it was then but what I noticed most was the change in the people. Most camps had dogs, lots of dogs, lots of big dogs. Only about half had them were on a leash. I saw a Pit Bull mix and a German Sheppard both running around their camp without a leash. Their owners were with them and for the most part they were staying close by but several times they would run up to strangers and check them out. The ranger came thru several times and as far as I could see he drove thru without stopping. The only thing I saw him checking was the parking permits (every vehicle in the park must have a $4 parking pass). There were also a couple of camps with labs and they were playing with the dogs on the beach (no leash) having them retrieve on the beach and in the water. There was loud music and lots of outside lights. I saw one guy with an older model Chevy and camper trailer. He had his carburetor off and was rebuilding it right on the ground in the road in front of his pickup. I stopped and talked with him to see if he needed any help. He was very friendly and I talked with him for 10 or 15 minutes. About 8:30pm I heard him start it up (loud pipes), he tune on it for about 10 minutes and after that he was pretty quiet. As I stated this is only an observation, no one was bothering me and everyone seem to be having a grand ole time. Around 9 or 10 o’clock things seem to calm down and the night was quiet and peaceful. Before we bought our MH we had a Travel Trailer. We spent a lot of time boondocking in the national forest and riding ATV’s. We also went to a lot of the AR State Parks and took the kids hiking and made a few trips to the Branson area and stayed in a private campground. Now it is just me and DW. We bought our MH to travel the US and because of its size (and me getting older and wanting more comforts) we mostly stay in FHU campgrounds. I just thought this park was different and not at all like I remembered it.

RE: financing new rv

We used them and it went well. If you have good credit and the unit you intend to buy falls within their guidelines, you should not have any problems. It does take at least two weeks for them to process a loan. The only reason we used them was the rate. They will sell the loan to another bank and you will be making payments to the bank.

RE: 2008 Jeep Wrangler...Question

Jeep quit using a steering wheel lock mid year 2008. If yours does not have a steering wheel lock just turn off the key, take it out and forget about it. If you have a lock it requires the key be left on to unlock the wheel and it will drain your battery. My 2007 had a lock so I dropped the ignition out and removed the lock as my battery would be dead after a few hours of towing with the key left on in the accessory position.

RE: New Class A RVr need infor on what to tow

You are on the right track. Get something with no restrictions on towing and does not require any modifications to tow. I started with a Toyota Tacoma with a driveshaft disconnect. It was a pain so I traded it for a Jeep Rubicon and it is great. It is super easy to tow and we love off roading in Colorado with it. I installed the brackets myself, it is an easy setup and a great toad.

RE: Co.Rt. 550. Durango to Ridgeway ??

We make that drive every year with our MH & Jeep. Like others have said it is great if you are OK with mountain driving. Here is a link that will show you most of the 4x4 trails. I have driven on most of them and they are great. Ouray Area 4x4 trails We usually stay at the the Ouray KOA as we like FHU's. It is not the normal KOA as it sits in the woods and has a good campground feel.

RE: 2012 Jeep Wrangler question.

I have a 2007 Rubicon 2 door hardtop. At the scale with a half tank of gas it was 4180#. Yours will probably be 200 to 400 lbs lighter depending on the options it has. I just took mine to the local truckstop with a Cat Scale. Almost every truck stop has one. I think the cost was $9.

RE: Water Hookups Far From Camper

I use one of these. It works great, no pump required.

What brand/kind of tow bar were you using?

RE: Rudeness at River Reflections in Oroville, CA

The thing is it's their park and they can do whatever they want. I would not pay $5 to visit and if I were your daughter I would move and let them know why and let them know I was going to tell everyone I saw and also put it on rvparkreviews.com. Bottom line is, their park-their rules. Too many other great places to stay to get upset over it.

RE: TWO rivers campground

We have stayed there many times. IMO, it is the best if you want to stay in town

RE: The fuel gap is closing up.

OP here. When I posted the picture the gap was $0.26, today it is only $0.08 at the location.

The fuel gap is closing up.

Stopped and filled up at WM this afternoon. The gas/diesel gap is not what it was. Not too long ago everyone was saying dump the diesel and get a gas rig because of the difference in price. https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-kXqibAHfhcw/T2zyYgY9LkI/AAAAAAAAAHw/hCZ53xwj-PE/s640/Walmart%2520Fuel%25203-23-12.JPG width=650

RE: What is wrong with me???

Look on the bright side. If they are cracked they are normally easier to fix than the water lines and spring is here, time to hitch up and go.

RE: SW Camping Plan and recommendations

Hello All. Looking for recommendations to help me finalize our 2012 annual road trip. The last 3 years, my family has traveled to many of the West's National Parks including The Badlands, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Glacier, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Bryce, Zion, Redwoods...and we are looking to finish our tour with his year's loop. My girls will be 11/13 and have really enjoyed our previous trips with all the sites and hiking and exploration we have done. The four of us are planning for a 18 day trip in our Class C with TOAD from Portland to hit the following sites: Zion, 2d, 3n stay in park (we visited this park for ~6 hours last summer but couldn't stay due to air conditioner break down) Petrified Forrest, 2d, 3n, stay at Holbrook KOA Mesa Verde, 3d, 4n Canyonlands NP, 2d, 1n Arches NP, 1d, 1n Capitol Reef NP 2d, 2n We choose this route based on our previous visits and what looked like major sites we may be interested. I would appreciate any insight from others who have been to these sites/area if I have scheduled the appropriate amount of time for each site, if we should substitute other sites not included, and recommendations for places to stay. Thanks in advance. If it were me I would cut the Mesa Verde stay a little shorter and head over to Silverton CO for a night a two. The train from Durango to Silverton is a don't miss.

RE: Pros and Cons of double towing

Here is how I see it. If I am going to a SP or the NF 2 or 3 hours away I hook my 5 x 8 trailer on th Jeep and load it up, firewood, grill, bikes or whatever. Don't have to worry about fuel as my 100 gallon tank will get me there and back. If I am going to the lake I hook my fishing boat on the Jeep and go. Again, usually in state or maybe just over into MO. It pulls great and is no problem but I can tow up to 10,000 lbs. I would never, repete never, head out cross country double towing. If you want to load up your stuff and head out 100 to 200 miles from home go for it.
