bed rails- thoughts?

Now that the Reese 5th wheel hitch is out of the truck for the season-I was looking for suggestions on using the bed with the rails. I now have to cart some heavy materials around on a cart during the winter. Of course- the bed rails from the hitch stick up making it a bit more challenging.... I was thinking of putting plywood (or something else) to try and make the bed more even (but I'm not sure how to do that) Any thoughts to make it a bit more flat all the way across and stay in place when moving something with wheels in and out?

Box step (not really RV related)

not really RV related but have always gotten good advice over the years here.... My wife asked me to build a box "cube" out of wood- (something like the size of a milk crate) to stand on. Like a 12"x12" cube- I'm guessing just using like 3/4" plywood nailed together would never be strong enough- any other suggestions?

Looking to purchase

OK - we've have the KZ for 5 years and it's done us well... girls are older and I'm looking for suggestions- here is what I would "like": *31'-33' max *1-2 slides *I really need a 2nd bathroom (1/2 bath) *Bunks- would be nice but not absolutely necessary- (kids sleep on sofa) *Outdoor kitchen Seems models have changed since I last shopped- Forest River and Keystone seem to be the big ones- Any feedback is appreciated!

Lewe's DE to Ocean City

OK I might be taking the ferry with the 5th wheel from Cape may NJ to Lewes, DE.... Once I get off in Lewe's - are there trailer friendly way to get to Ocean City MD from there? Mapquest was sending me via Route 1 but that does not look like the best way

Calling all brake experts

OK here is my situation: Put "NEW" Calipers, rotors, pads on front of 2001 F250 about 10 months ago- Bled system- etc-- Last week i had done some heavy braking with the trailer down some large hills- Really gave them a workout. Since then it seems when brakes heat up- I get some shudder in the brake pedal when braking- Took a look again- Pads and rotors look fine....didn't see anything unusual- Whats interesting is it does not seem to shudder when I first drive- As brakes heat up seems to get worse.... is it possible my rotors have become warped in such short time??

caliper pin lube

anyone know the best lubricant to put on the caliper pins fo brakes? I have a jar of Permatex ceramic brake lubricant (purple stuff)- I'm just not sure if it's exactly what I need for the pins and it does not say on the bottle. I read you are not supposed to use wheel bearing grease or lithium based grease- I think it's probably ok- but wanted to check- i will also check the Permatex website- just seeing if anyone else knows......

RE: New to the TT but not to the forums

good luck!- I would check as much as possible- All appliances- heat/AC/fridge and all sinks/bath etc for leaks... use your tanks and make sure nothing leaks etc... i say that only since a friend of mine bought a TT in the winter and never used his AC until the summer only to find out it did not work- Check as much as you can!

#%^@# clogged toilet

our 5th wheel has the lovely 45 degree pipe that connects the john to the black tank. Since my kids don't listen- that pipe often gets clogged with TP. I have to use the flexible wand to clear it almost every camping trip. Anyone know of any tips or tricks to keep things "Moving" (other than plenty of water and not so much paper)

water heater valve

There are 3 valves on the back of my water heater-(has a bypass)- One at the bottom (cold water inlet)- one at the top (hot water supply) and then the bypass valve in the center. Looks like the top valve for hot water is not working (stuck in closed position)- To get thru my next trip can I just remove that valve and use a piece of hose to get the hot water to flow? The valves are only for the winter bbypass correct?
