RE: Jayco x23f-new owner

I use the furnace for the most part. I have a small electric heater I sometimes put into the bathroom at night because it stays cold in the bathroom. But I do not think the gas furnace uses that mutch gas. We camp alot in early spring and late fall when nights are cold and I can run the furnace, run the fridge on gas while in travel and use the gas stove to cook eggs and still only have to fill my gass bottles every third camping trip.

RE: Hybrid Towing SUV's.?

we have a 99 prowler hybrid tt and a 2004 durango with the 4.7 ,power is fine{except on long hills} only problem we have is with temp.it runs hotter than im comfortable with Although I never have had any issues with running hot with the 5.2 liter I have heard before by more than one person that the 4.7 was not as good at towing which might explain it running hot. I also flush the radiator once every two years.

RE: Flat tire!

My guess is the bolt is an ARP harmonic balancer bolt. The inside of the head will accommodate a 3/8 ratchet to bar over the motor when you are doing maintenance. Yes I agree. Its not a VW lug nut as it would have threads the whole way up the bolt. I have old VW's and it looks close but not a lug nut from one.

RE: Off topic but kind of not off topic

If he falls through I want a date!! Just kidding. Teach him how to do it and if he doesn't learn kick him to the curb and keep looking. You have no use for a man who is a liability. With your credentials you will find the right guy. X's 2

RE: Too Much Tow Vehicle?

Yesterday I was very surprised at what I read on a sticker on the tonque of my Jayco X23J. This sticker stated that towing this trailer with a tow vehicle rated at one ton or more could result in injury or death. I have never heard of such a thing. Does anyone know the logic behind this statement? Where exactly on the tongue is this sticker at? Because.....well....just look. :h http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6101/6340125867_0fa353383f_z.jpg Yep - a brand new X23J being towed by a GMC3500HD Duramax. In the 7 months I've had the trailer, I've towed it easily 4000 miles so far. I've been over my own trailer pretty well and don't recall seeing that sticker on mine....that's why I ask. The sticker guy was sleeping the day they built yours. :B

RE: Hybrid Towing SUV's.?

Pulled our HTT all over the place with our 99' Durango with the 5.2 liter and never had any problems. But with almost 200K miles we just upgraded to an 08' Avalanche with the 5.3 liter and so far we like it as well. I would say with gear our HTT comes in around 5k-5.5k lbs. I think our Durango did a little better going up hills but the AVY does better on the highways as its heavier and the big rigs do not move it around like they did with the Durango.

RE: Michelins.. ouch!

i think some of us are talking about different tires, i am certain in the big truck world there are better tires than michelin. however on my pickup trucks i have had very good luck with michelins and wouldnt hesistate to buy them again. X's 2

RE: Do I need weight distribution?

My rule of thumb is any RV bigger than a popup should have weight distribution and sway control.

RE: Tire Choices - Rank These Tire Brands

I had Maxxis tires and they seemed like good tires. They where about 5-6 years old when I replaced them. I replaced them with Carlisle tires and they seem just as good to me. My first trip with the Carlisle tires was from PA to GA and had no problems. I am starting my second seasion with the Carlisle tires. Time will tell if they last as long. A lot of folks talk down Carlisle tires but they have been making trailer tires longer than most of us have been alive. Although I was not happy when they moved there production from US to china.

RE: Want to kill myself because....

So far I say its a tie between the motor home in the lake and the toy hauler that burnt to the ground.

RE: was it from tilting trailer for winter

It might just be condensation as the days are warming up and still cold at night. When closed up use your water hose and see if you get any leaks. But I do cover mine during the winter.

RE: Does anyone tow with an Avalanche?

Finally got the chance to take a trip and see how the Avalanche we bought pulled our HTT. And I must say I am happy with the way it pulls. As far as power I do not think there is much differance between the Avy and our Durango that we used to pull with. However because the Avy is bigger in size and more stable I do not have big rigs blowing me off the highway anymore.:B The funny part was in the campground our neighbers also had an Avy they just bought but his was a 2500 with the 8.1 liter. I am taking another trip next weekend with the camper that further away so we will see how it does with the next trip.

RE: Starcraft 'Garagedoor' panel leaks- repair/replace?

The brown water at the bottom right corner is normal water that would run down the back of the unit either from rain or if you washed it. I try and clean around my seals to keep the dirt out that collects in those spots. Now if that water gets inside the compartment then you have issues.

RE: Let's leave it at W-Mart and go looking around.

The reason that there wasn't a truck around....just the 5th wheel....is because the truck had been towed to the CHEVY Dealership for repairs...again! Come on now it was a FORD dealership!:B

RE: State parks

I looked at the campground map and they do have water symbols on it. It is a PA state campground. Colonel Denning state park. Looks like there is a water station across from my camp site. I still might fill up from home. I am not that far away so the extra weight is not that big of a deal. Thanks for all the input.

RE: Washing my camper

thanks guys!! As for the floor cleaners i seen some bf & after pics of the red max stuff and wow!! That's what i need to do! My lowes doesn't seem to stock this stuff anymore , from what it seems like they are not carrying that line up anymore and switching over to Zep products per salesman. Anyone know where i can find Red max stuff, or does the Zep work just as good? Zep is the same product as the Red Max. Made by the same Manf. Yes it will work.

State parks

I have always camped in private campgrounds but am camping for the first time in a state campground this weekend. My question is do the state campgrounds have a cold water tank fill station? Or do I need to fill before I leave my house. I do know it does not have water hook ups at the site.
