RE: rocker switch???

No... the neon lamp won't light. The switch will work with low 12 volt draw, but with no indicator light. Look for one rated for 12 volts.

RE: Furnace not putting out heat; fan works

Most dealers will replace the control circuit board if they determine that's causing the problem. However, my experience has indicated that many circuit board problems are caused by a simple cracked solder connection on the board. Close examination using a magnifier or jewellers loupe will often find cracked connections, and careful use of a small soldering iron can save you $$$. What have you to lose by trying?

RE: new microwave

The main line fuse in a microwave is not only to protect from overloads, but also will blow if a door switch fails. This is to protect the user from exposure to microwave radiation. The door switches are designed to blow the fuse instantly if they should fail, so should the fuse blow again after replacing it, assume its a safety issue and replace the microwave.

RE: Furnace not putting out heat; fan works

I had one furnace that did just that. Turned out to be a bad sail switch. That's a little switch with a "paddle" that confirms the airflow to the exhaust before opening the gas valve to the burner. Low voltage, too little air flow, or a bad switch will make the furnace blow cold air only!

RE: Scary situation--help?

If you have roadside assistance, perhaps have them send a mobile mech out to check it on site. It may be dangerous, as others have stated, so best to be safe!
(My unprofessional guess would be to agree with Tahiti16, the steering box might be loose and shifted position.)

RE: 454 quadrabog?

Jagtech: "Do you have your vacuum advance connected to manifold vacuum or carb vacuum? Makes a huge difference. "
PM from Rvrepairnut: "you have absolutely no idea what your talking about in this matter
just for kicks explain to me how a engine will have more or less power if the vacuum advance is hooked to ported Vacuum verses full(manifold) Vacuum?"
Jagtech reply: Of course.... manifold vac at full throttle is 0". Carb (ported vac) at full throttle, vac is high (14" approx). Which do you really want to your vacuum advance at full throttle ???? Makes a difference!
BTW, thanks for the vote of confidence about my knowledge:M

RE: GPS warning

The Garmin Nuvi is particularly bad that way... it doesn't have enough navigation options to avoid those residential streets sometimes. Mine gets lost quite easily, can't find a town in the next state without a lot of messing around with the menu.

RE: Leaving home for long time

If you turn off the water heater as well as the main water supply, be sure to leave a hot water tap open, or your hot water tank can be damaged by the vacuum created when it cools.

RE: Need replacement parts -- new rv owner

If it needs a new fridge and stove, don't touch it! Too pricey to fix. And depending what make/model it is, the fridge may not fit through the door, instead requiring the removal of a window or windshield to get it out.
If it needs those items, what else does it really need? Look elsewhere!

RE: dinghy traction problem

When towing, one must also remember to get rolling for a few feet from a dead stop before turning sharply. Otherwise the toad may decide it wants to go a different route.

RE: Electrial gurus, need help with door awning, please.

If the motor has severe voltage drop, and is trying to work at reduced voltage, it will draw much more current, causing it to overheat and trip the overload. Check that voltage first.

RE: Electrial gurus, need help with door awning, please.

It sounds like a classic case of excessive voltage drop - not enough voltage getting to the motor, which is overcome when you connect an external battery to it. A check with a DC voltmeter would likely confirm this, but must be done with the motor under load. This drop could be caused by defective, or too small, wiring to the motor, or possibly by a defective relay. Check those voltages first!

RE: Intermittent 12v house power. The Disconnect Relay Soleniod?

Intermittent electrical issues are the most difficult and frustrating to diagnose. Have you checked, using a DC voltmeter, if there's 12 volts coming from the disconnect relay? Of course, you've already made certain the battery terminals are clean and tight!
Good Luck!

RE: Breakdown...

Its a difficult decision to make when one is stuck with a rig that needs a major repair, especially when the repair will cost more than the RV is worth. If I were in that situation, I might be tempted to replace the motorhome with a newer one, and part out the old one. Parting out will almost certainly result in more value than selling a non-running unit, which may never sell anyway. There's so much on a motorhome that other folks can use (transmission, rear end, levellers, awnings, furnace, fridge, etc etc).

RE: how to remove dometic americana 1988

Measure the old fridge carefully. I've heard that some won't fit through the door, have to remove the windshield to get it out.

Yes, Walmart makes keys.... do you want one that will work? The person working the machine isn't a locksmith, so take your chances. I gave up after the third trip back.
