RE: Why do I feel like appoligizing....??

I spent 21 years serving in the military with lots of family separation and missing many holidays, birthdays, etc. Then retired taught high school for another 12 years and retired again. DW served in the federal government for 30 years now we are both retired and full-timing. We earned our retirement and living in our nice motor home. We also are volunteers at state parks as park hosts and love helping others enjoying the camping experience. Camping is a lifestyle and it doesn't matter to me if you are in a tent or a class A DP we all have the same idea of enjoying the outdoors and meeting others that enjoy the same. Our country is a beautiful place and we are so fortunate to be able to travel and see all the wonderfulness and beauty of this great country of ours. Happy RVing all and Enjoy!

RE: Kingdome roof top Satellite

You may want to check to make sure the compass board is plugged in. To do this you must remove the dome cover, the compass board is a thin green circuit board that sticks out the top front of the dish antenna. The plug is white and should be plugged into the back of the board. I had a locking problem with my dish and the compass board was unplugged, I plugged it in and it locked on the satellite right away. Good Luck!

RE: Does such a thing as a decent gasser exist?

I think it all comes down to personal preference and the quality of construction. High end gassers can be much better than low end DPs. My FIL is on his third Winnebago Adventurer and loves them. I have been in the coach many times and it is really nice inside and out. He has traveled all over the country and winters every year in Texas from Mass. Also he has had very good luck with the rig. I, myself, like DPs and are on our second DP. We went from a Winnebago Journey 34H to a Itasca Horizon 40KD and really have loved both coaches. I really believe Winnebago/Itasca really build a great rig. Good Luck and Happy Motorhoming!

RE: Trip Planning Software

I use two programs one is Trailer Life Directory Campground Navigator and the other is Delorme Street Atlas. Both are great for routing and planning including fuel costs. I like the Trailer Life Directory as it has lots of info on campgrounds along you route, a really nice feature. The Delorme has a plug in unit that will make your laptop into a GPS unit which is really awesome. Good Luck and Happy RVing!

RE: Roof versus Basement A/C Units.

Never have had roof A/C units. Our first rig was a Journey and now we have an Itasca Horizon both have basement A/C units. I like the fact that there is less chance of a leak on the roof and they seem to keep the coach really cool and the heat pumps are great to save on LP when plugged into 50amp or 30amp. The only drawbacks are loss of storage and they are a bit noisy in the bedroom as the units are right under the bedroom. I do like the fact they have a very large air filter that is easy to change and you can buy them at Walmart or just about any other home building store. I even found the filters in Texas at HEB stores. Good Luck and Happy RVing!

RE: Securing Genturi to side of coach - How did you do it?

I also use the big clear plastic suction cups from Walmart and they work really well if you make sure the side of the coach is clean and wet the suction cups. I do not leave the suction cups on went traveling or not using the Genturi. Good Luck and Happy RVing!

RE: Lazydays sales

I guess we were lucky as we just bought a new to us 06 Itasca Horizon 40KD from La Mesa RV in Tucson and they have been great with us. Yes we found issues and only had a 14 day warranty period but they went right to work on it. We still have a few issues that they are still working on only because of parts and an outside service tech. I even found a problem with the King Dome Sat dish after the warranty period and they agreed to fix it. Joesph our service tech is really awesome, we couldn't be more happy with our purchase. Good Luck and Happy RVing!

RE: Day Night Shades

Try going to fixmyblinds.com, you can buy the right string there and get instructions as well. I agree with others it is just as easy to replace all the strings instead of just one. Good Luck!

RE: Gentle coach to help me learn to drive confidently

A good place to get good information on driving a motor home is at www.betterrving.com/barney it is from a driving course offered through Lazy Days RV center and the videos are very informative and helpful. My wife and I took the course at Lazy Days Tucson. However, my wife first learned to drive the motor home through a truck driver instructor that we hired. He gave her a four hour lesson and it was great and she has driven the motor home ever since. We take turns driving which is a great relaxing way to travel. She started out driving our 1st 34' Journey and now we have a 40' Horizon and she does an awesome job driving the rig. Good Luck and Happy RVing!

RE: Colorado campgrounds

If you are over in the southwestern Colorado there is an awesome campgrounds called Priest Gulch just north of Delores and north of Stoner, Co. It sets right on the Delores River and it is very beautiful there and quiet. The place is surrounded by mountains and you can take you tow to Teleuride which is an awesome place to visit. The mountain views are awesome! If you happen to be into trout fishing there is some excellent trout streams all throughout the area and trout lake is right up the road on the way to Telluride. Lots of other neat places to visit all around the area and staying at Priest Gulch is a great central location. They are also big rig friendly and dog friendly as well. Good Luck and Happy RVing!

RE: 2012 Itasca Ellipse

We just traded up from a 05 34H Journey to a 06 40KD Horizon Itasca and we love the Winnebago/Itasca products. I think you will love them too! Last fall we went to Forest City and toured the Winnebago plant and really got to see how they are built and were very impressed. We were not only impressed with the facility but also the staff there were awesome. Another great forum is at iRV2.com and there is a forum just for Winnebago/Itasca owners. Congrats on your new Ellipse and Happy Motorhoming!

RE: BAd experience with Camping World I-26

I should think any camping store especially catering to RVs, motor homes, etc. would 1) train their employees to know directions to their store no matter what direction you were coming and 2) know what type of parking they have available at their store. Especially a store called Camping World that caters to motor homes, large 5th wheels, etc. I do not think that CW will be in business very long if they do not improve their customer relations and parking situation. Good Luck and Happy RVing All!

RE: New RV'r...today!

Congrats on the new to you MH! The best advise is to get hold of the owners manuals for your MH and read it several times and keep it handy. I'm sure if you Google you make and model for a owners manual you will be able to track one down. Also you should be able to get owners manuals for all your appliances online as well. Asking specific questions on your appliances, etc on this forum is another great way to get information on your MH. DW and I have been full-timing for two years now and do volunteer/workcamping around the country, it is a great life style! Awesome on getting a workcamping just outside of Yellowstone I have never been there but it is high on my bucket list! Welcome to the forum, and Good Luck and Happy Full-timing!

RE: Dry Camping Question

I most always travel with a full tank of water it really helps to make the MH more stable especially in windy conditions. We had a 34' Journey and the full tank helped, however, we just traded for this 40' Horizon so I'm not sure how a full water tank will affect the ride and handling of the MH. I do think the full water tank will add to the ride of the MH. I have never noticed any real difference in MPH with or without a full water tank. Dumping gray water is a definite NO NO. Hopefully, there is a dumping station nearby or just be really careful how much water you do use. Good Luck and Happy RVing!

RE: Same money, older higher end coach or newer not as nice one

Depending on the condition and maintenance I would choose the older high end MH. In fact that is exactly what we just did. We had a choice between a 2011 39' Tiffin Red and an 2006 40' Itasca Horizon and we chose the Horizon. Everything about the Horizon was so much better than the newer Red. The fixtures in the Red were really cheap like overhead lights that looked like car dome lights with bulbs and clear lenses. The Horizon has very high end fixtures and appliances and interior finish. The floor has real tile and all solid wood cabinets. Windows on the Red were single pane and the Horizon has all double pane windows. Another biggie is the Red only had a 300 hp Cummins and the Horizon has a 400 hp and the Allison 3000 transmission so it's carrying and towing capacity is much higher. You really get so much more with a older higher end coach that with a newer low end coach. We really love the Horizon and are so happy we choose it. Good Luck with your search and Happy MHing All!

RE: Black Tank Help

If spraying a hose down the toilet doesn't work try dumping a bag of ice down the toilet and then going for a nice 10 mile drive with lots of ups and downs and some curves thrown in. The ice will break up any solids you have in that tank like a pop pile and dislodge any clog you may have. You may have to do it more than once if you have lots of solids in the tank. Try putting some Calgone or Dawn down in the tank as well as it makes the tank sides slippery so stuff will not stick to the tank sides and give you a false reading on your tank levels. Good Luck and Happy RVing!

RE: "upgrade" to Class A

We had a 05 34H Journey with a 350 CAT and loved the motor home. There are quite a few 34' Journeys out there and older models that are really nice MHs. Lots of carrying capacity with the larger engine and it was a really sweet driving coach. We only just changed to a 06 Horizon 40KD as we wanted more room the three slides provide especially the opposing living area slides. The 34H had lots of storage inside and out and with the 350 CAT it could tow up to 10K pounds of toad. If you drive a DP you'll never be happy with a gasser so don't test drive a DP unless you are serious about buying one. My FIL has a really nice 03 Adventurer 35U with the 8.1L vortex engine and has had really great luck with it and has traveled thru the Rockies with no problems. But the ride and quite of a DP is priceless!! Good Luck in your search!

RE: Have you been turned away?

I can understand RV Parks 10 year rule as they want to keep out trash rigs. Most will allow a nice well kept rig over 10 years old. I can't blame them for not wanting hunks of junks in their parks. We were hosting at a state park and an old converted bus came in belching black smoke stinking up the entire campgrounds. If that wasn't bad enough he started it the next morning and let it run for about an hour all the time belching black and blue smoke and again stinking up the entire campgrounds. Those are the rigs private CG are trying to keep out of their parks with very good reasons. I have seen awesome rigs like one GMC camper that was totally redone and it was one of the nicest coaches I have ever seen. I love to see older MHs that have been completely restored and I am sure they have no problems getting into RV parks. Just coming from the Rio Grande Valley TX you can see really great RV parks and some that look like junk yards with very old unkept MHs. One thing to keep in mind is that there are lots of RV parks to choose from if you don't like their rules vote with your gas pedal! Good Luck All and Happy RVing!

RE: Winnebago Factory Defect

I have heard of this problem before, however, I have never seen the problem nor talked to anyone that has had this problem. A coach that is over 12 years old could have lots of problems depending on how it's maintenance was kept up or not kept up. I am on my second Winnebago/Itasca motor home and I have not had that problem and my FIL is on his 3rd Winnebago and has never had that problem. I have been to the factory at Forest City and seen the quality construction Winnies are made and they are made very well. How many cars/trucks do you see on the road that are over 10 years old and still running? If you maintain your motor home the way is should be there shouldn't be a problem. I'm sure if the sealant fails and water seeps into the roof joint it will surely degrade the glue that binds the roof joint together. Inspect that roof and keep it well sealed and there should not be a problem. Winnebago/Itasca has been in business for over 50 years so they must be doing something right! Their customer service at Forest City is awesome.

RE: Class C to A - thoughts from those that have done this?

Class A's are really a great way to travel, lots of room, storage, nice ride, etc. Whether to go DP or gasser is a personal choice. We started out with a 34' Journey DP and loved the MH. I love the quiet traveling of a DP, the power over high country and the safety of the engine break going down steep grades. DP's are build stronger and last longer if maintained properly. Yes their are a bit more expensive to maintain but I feel well worth the cost. My FIL has a Adventurer, gas rig, and loves it and travels from MA to TX every winter and back and really loves his MH and he is on his 3rd MH. We just traded our 05 Journey 34' for an 06 Itasca Horizon 40' for some more space as it has 3 slides which makes it really roomy. We really like the Winnebago/Itasca motor homes and really think they build excellent rigs. We are full-timers so having the extra room is really nice. Good Luck with your search and happy RVing!
