RE: 2008 Ford F350 FX4 V10 CC - questions?

Oct. 2007. If it was made after that date...am I okay in not having them done til 100,000 miles? Depends on the suffix on the engine's part number. JL

RE: 2008 Ford F350 FX4 V10 CC - questions?

How do I find out the production date? GypsyIt's on the door sticker that lists the VIN,GVWR,etc. You can also look on the engine's ID tag on the cam cover. It'll have a date along with a part number and that's where the -BA or -BB suffix will be. JL

RE: 2008 Ford F350 FX4 V10 CC - questions?

Vulcaneer - This truck has 81,000 kms / 50,330 miles. Thanks for the mention about the spark plugs though. Gypsy If the production date is before 10/07, then I would insist on the plugs being changed before you take delivery. Production code on the cam cover will be a -BA suffix for the old 2 piece plugs, and -BB suffix for the single piece redesigned plugs that do not break. JL

RE: 2008 Ford F350 FX4 V10 CC - questions?

But the problem is, that plug changes can be difficult and expensive. Especially if a plug gets broken off in the process. There are procedures for doing it right. But still the higher chances for broken plugs can be unavoidable. Depending on production date, this is not an issue. The plug design was changed in '08 to eliminate the "ground shell" portion of the plug that would "break off" in the head upon plug removal. JL

RE: Buy a Ford????

The 6.0 diesel in our E350 van has been great, no problems at all. It has plenty of power and great mileage too. The Econoline used a different turbo, and was also rated and made less HP than the truck 6.0L. They are much more reliable-something that cannot be said about the 6.0L used in the trucks. JL

RE: 2008 Ford F350 FX4 V10 CC - questions?

Unless this is something new, the V10 doesn't have tow/haul mode. Only the diesel has Tow/Haul mode. The button on the end of the shift lever turns OD on and off. It even says that right on the lever. ALL 5R110 torqshift equipped trucks, gas or diesel have tow/haul mode, and NOT an OD lockout. That would be the '99-'04 Superduty trucks with the 4R100. '05-'10 gas Superduty trucks ALL have the 5R110 torqshift trans-NOT the 4R100. '11-up all use the same 6R140. JL

RE: 2006+ Ford 6.0 diesel still unreliable?

I have, I owned a 2006 F350 with the 6.0L engine, ended up lemon lawing it. You're not the only one. That engine has earned the reputation it has and deserves. JL

RE: 2006+ Ford 6.0 diesel still unreliable?

I'm a Ford guy but i would not buy a 6.0 They have a bad reputation for a reason.. I must agree. There's a very good reason that I chose to purchase the gasoline engine versions of my vehicles when I could have purchased the diesel. JL
