RE: RV Parking City Ordnances

My HOA prohibits storing an RV, boat, or trailer, on the lot except if it can fit within the garage and the door can close. I love having the pop-up that fits (with 4" spare!).
According to the HOA rules, I shouldn't be setting it up on the street for cleaning, prep, repair, etc. Shortly after I got it, I had it set up on the street and was working on it when the then-president of the HOA came by (he lived down the street from me). He checked it out, being a former RV'er himself. Never had a complaint, but I never leave it out for more than a day, and I'm always there with it when it is.
As for the OP with the 2-hour restriction! That's a bit overboard in my opinion. I'd politely inquire if that applies at all times or only when it is disconnected from the tow vehicle (look for a loophole).
The town where my parents live have a 24-hour time limit for RV's on the street (not private property). One officer, who's known to be the biggest :E on the force, started giving my father a hard time while he was still disconnecting his 5er. My father told him to come back in 24 hours.

RE: colo springs & grand junction rv park suggestions

In Colorado Springs I would recommend the Cheyenne Mountain State Park.
Get blown away at Cheyenne Mountain SP. Not figuratively, literally! We spent a weekend there in June 2009 and wondered if we were going to make it through the first night. Wind gusts were in the 50+MPH range. We heard the wind rushing down slope a minute or so before the gusts hit the CG. Needless to say, DW & I didn't get any sleep that night. At one point, I helped fellow campers whos tent was lifted up and blown off the tent pad with them inside. Kids slept through it all.
Second night was completely calm.

RE: Sold on cast iron cooking

I love my cast iron. Every time I go into Goodwill, I peruse to see if there are any pots or pans. Usually the staff thinks i'm crazy for buying a "ruined" pan, but after a good 20 minutes of elbow grease, and a few trips down the seasoning path, they are non-stick.
I'm in the same boat as many here, DW does not clean the cast iron, but that's something I can live with!!
A ruined cast iron pan is one that is in at least two pieces more than when manufactured!
I have two skillets & a dutch oven in the sticks & bricks; "youngest" cast iron I have is a mere 13 years. Alas, they're too heavy for my lil' pup...
As for cleaning, if nothing is cooked on I usually wipe it out while warm with a paper towel. When needed I hand wash with hot soapy water, rinse. To dry I put it on the stove, low heat, then apply a light coat of cooking oil with a paper towel to the warm, dry pan.

RE: Shore power automatic switch to inverter.

Verify if your inverter has a neutral-ground bond. If so, your schematic should work. To verify: with the inverter disconnected from the battery, use a multimeter set to measure resistance at it's lowest setting (or if it has continuity test setting use that). Check between the neutral and the ground connections. Should read zero or pretty close to zero. If it doesn't read anything, then you don't have a N-G bond and will need to provide it on the inverter side of the switch. If you don't have the N-G bond, you will have an open ground situation which is a safety issue. Do not bond the neutral to the ground anywhere else except at the inverter.

RE: New to the Pup world and need advice.

SNIP
Not sure if it was a great deal and don't want to find out cause that's always a downer.
SNIPIt doesn't matter, as it was worth whatever you signed for, to you. That's what counts.
Enjoy and welcome aboard, even though you did decided you hate better mpg ;)
X2! If you are happy with what you paid for it and is what you want, then it was a great deal. What I would have paid for the same thing is irrelevant. Go forth and enjoy!

RE: I Don't Think I Am Thick...

Trixie, you may look into a small battery powered fan. I picked up a couple that use two D-size batteries and also have the 120V "wall wart" transformer/power supply so I can use them when I have shore power available. They were around $5 each on sale at Lowes and are available all over the place (and all over the price range).

RE: Windy towing!

Come visit eastern Colorado and anywhere in Wyoming. You'll get plenty of wind practice and be a pro in short order. For the Olympic Wind challenge, drive I-80 around Arlington & Elk Mountian, then take I-25 south from Cheyenne to Ft. Collins.

RE: 2006 Fleetwood Sun Valley - Roof Qs, Towable with Sienna?

My '05 Allegance (a.k.a. Sun Valley) has the Alumitite roof and we've had no problems with it at all. When we load it up for a week of travel, including the full 26 gallons of water, it weighed in at 2400# axle weight. Oh, and that was two propane tanks on the tongue. Tows like a dream.

RE: Converting electric brakes hookup to a 4 pin trailer hookup

Another recommendation for installing the brake controller. However, should you chose not do do this, you can probably purchase or make an adapter for the truck/trailer combo. If both the truck and trailer have 7-way plugs, you wouldn't have to do anything.
Again, if it has brakes, why not use them? Brake controllers are cheap compared to an accident.

RE: Camper "wishlist" for families with small children

If you're going where there is wildlife such as bears, that may not be a good idea.
I camp in bear country all the time in my pop-up. You just have to keep the camp clean and store food, garbage, and all smellables (toothpaste, deoderant, etc) properly. I also tent camp when hunting and keep all smellables in bear bags hung up in the trees.
And anything with canvas (hybrids and popups) are harder to cool and heat if that may make a difference in your case.
Also not true. My pop-up cools just fine in the winter and heats up without a problem in the summer. :B
Just go to a higher elevation or further north to escape the heat.
Since my pop-up is more than 75% screen when all opened up, even the slightest breeze makes a difference. Add some shade and I haven't had problems keeping it comfortable. Never have we had the windows fully open overnight; occassionally two will be left 1/2 open, most of the time one or two are about 1/4 open at night.

RE: No water in kitchen sink

Roy,
Did you make that diagram? Add a 3-way plug valve at the water heater inlet, a check valve on the water heater outlet, and the bypass line and you could have a something worthy of a sticky!

RE: Guanella Pass Re-Opening...!

This has been a long time in the works. In the summer of 1997, I worked for the Forest Service on a property boundary survey crew. One of our tasks was to re-survey the wilderness boundary along the road and then to post it so the road project wouldn't enter the wilderness area. Beautiful area. I'll have to take the family back up there again. It's been about 4 years since we were up there!

RE: Camping VS Hotels

Several outdoors stores also do equipment rental. You may consider renting tents instead of buying. Also, instead of getting two tents, check out some of the larger multi-room tents. The girls can have one side, your son on the other. And there's room for adding cots to make it more comfortable.

RE: If you dont travel with the FW tank full???

I've only traveled twice with the FW tank empty. Both times we knew water was available at our destination. The last time (earlier this season) it was not a problem at all. BUT, the first time we did it, there was only one spigot at the CG, and it was difficult to reach to fill my tank. I only had about 15' of hose and really needed 25'. I ended up going around the loop backwards to put the fill port on the side closest to the spigot, and barely made work. I now have 15', 25', and 50' water hoses.
Usually we travel with a full tank (20gal) filled up at home.

RE: No water in kitchen sink

Unscrew the aerator from the tip of the kitchen faucet. See if water flows with it unscrewed. If so clean out the aerator and reinstall. If it's plugged with calcium you can try soaking it in white vinegar overnight to see if it helps.
x2 easiest and cheapest for first try at the problem.
Beverley and Ken
X3... And also the most common cause of the problem.
X4... My aerator was completely blocked this spring. Pulled it, soaked in CLR, rinse and reinstalled. What a difference! It builds up over time; you don't realize how much it reduces the flow.

RE: Is 31 foot too long for small campgrounds?

I've camped in many FS sites. When my lil' popup is set up, it's 25' long. Add the length of the truck and we need 43'. Haven't had too many problems finding that length. Rarely have I had to park the truck other than right in front, and usually there's several feet between the truck and trailer. I also like to be well away from the roadway. Granted, the back bunk can and sometimes does stick out behind the vehicle pad, but I usually try to keep the main box within the pad so my stabilizers are down on the hard(er) surface. Once in a while the nose of the truck parks along side of the front bunk if necessary without violating the vehicle pad width. In short, there may be some sites within a CG that 31' won't fit, but from my experience that's well into the minority.

RE: What did you do to your PUP today?

I covered my pup with sawdust yesterday. The trailer stores in the garage.
I'm working on building a new cross-over bridge with a friend for our cub scout pack. Cut the lumber and made no fewer than 32 dado cuts for the various parts. We're building one that is easy to assemble/disassemble and lay flat. The dust should be blown off of the trailer in just over two weeks when we take the scouts out for the spring camp trip.
I'm also planning to build extra blocks for the stabilizer jacks to rest on. They just barely reach the ground after the axle flip (almost 6" increased height).
So that's what I did to my pup yesterday!
