RE: Rockport, Port Aransas or Corpus Christi ?

Well, I do appreciate all the responses. For what we are looking for and for being as large as we are I think I will take the suggestion of staying at Gulf Waters in Port Aransas. Love to be on the beach and in driving distance to everthing. Plus it sounds like their sites are large enough to take us with no problem.
Thank you all,
Janet

RE: 1000trails membership

We owned a different membership and we just gave it away and they paid transfer fees.
We listed on the RV Park Store (free) and gave it away to a Canadian Snowbird.
Check it out RV Park Store

RE: Rockport, Port Aransas or Corpus Christi ?

We mostly like to sight-see. My husband might do a little fishing but he is not hooked :W on it.
Love to go on walks but not big hikers. Mainly I guess we like to explore the areas, maybe antiques, beaches, wildlife. Going out to eat isn't as important as it use to be since we both had stomach surgery.
Thanks,
Janet

RE: Monument Valley campgrounds in mid-April

Another one here for Gouldings. Right in the center of it all. We are 40' MH and had no problems. Nice big gas station in town there also if you need to fill up.
If you have the time drive to Goosenecks State Park up by Mexican Hat. Beautiful sight to see.
Here is a web page to wet your appetite!

Rockport, Port Aransas or Corpus Christi ?

I am still planning out a trip for the end of the year and would like your suggestions again.
If staying 3-4 days in this area, would you prefer Rockport, Port Aransas or Corpus Christi? Also which RV Park would you reccommend?
I have read all the reviews on rvparkreviews and it just left me more confused :h
I read somewhere that because of our size we could not take the ferry from Port Aransas, so coming from Galveston we would have to go to Corpus Christi and down is this correct?
We are 40' motorhome with Equinox tow. Prefer full hook-ups, wi-fi and cable unless the park is outstanding then of course we can go without hook-ups for a few days.
Also if you could list a few of your favorite places to see while in this area.
I always make a folder up of all the great ideas you guys offer me.
Thanks for your help,
Janet

RE: Two weeks, +$5 gas. Where to?

Go and have fun! Life is too short. You have to grab all the gusto you can out of life while you can.
Travel safe whatever you decide. We never cancel our plans do to gas prices, just bite the bullet. Besides I would pout real bad if my plans got cancelled.

RE: Rv park around Calgary

Last year we stayed in Cochrane at Springhill RV Park. Springhill
Very nice park. Full hook-ups, wi-fi, and nice long pull-thrus. This was an easy drive to the station where you catch the C-Train for the stampede (if you are going). It will also make many other stops along the way so you can explore the city. C-Train
The rodeo at the stampede was great. Stampede
Have fun whatever you do. Beautiful country!

RE: tours in yellowstone

If you have some extra time after your days of touring, we really enjoyed the Roosevelt Old West Dinner Cookout.
They take you by covered wagon out to a valley where you have a wonderful cowboy cookout. Steak and all the trimmings with cowboy coffee and someone playing on the guitar. Wonderful tour. We have gone twice and last year took my mother and at 78 yrs old she had a wonderful time.
Check out their website

RE: Texas Route

Jane
You can go North an I35 out of San Antonio to San Marcus and pick up Texas 21 to US 77 North just north of Giddings, then take 77 to US 79 North at Rockdale, then 79 to I20 just outside Shreveport La. These are all good roads. Lots of 4 lane and good 2 lane with wide shoulder all the way. This will take you through central and northeast Texas, lots to do and see so don't be afraid to take side trips when you see something that interests you.
Larry
Thank you Larry, That is something of what I was looking for. We are taking our time and want to see some of Texas while avoiding the bigger cities (been there, done that). If you have ideas of major stops along the way please let me know.

RE: Texas Route

So sorry, I guess I didn't make it very clear what we are doing.
We want to go the southern route since it is winter and the 40 can be a real bear in the winter. Just this weekend the 40 was shut down here in Arizona.
We want to take a long leisure drive. Yes I know it is a little back-tracking but we are going to Hattiesburg first to check on our mobile home park, we then have family in Tunica which we will spend about 3 weeks visiting for Christmas. Then we will drive to Orlando, Florida to visit our son and family for a couple of weeks before heading home slowly back the southern route thru, Galveston, Corpus Christi and Big Bend, San Antonio etc.
I do know it is a little back-tracking but it is the way my husband wants to go. We have time (both retired) so no problems.
Mainly was checking on a route from the 10 to the 20 in Texas where it is no problem for a 40' MH and a route with some nice sights to stop and enjoy Texas as we travel. And we want to avoid Austin and Dallas.
Sorry for the confusion, guess I didn't have my coffee when typing..lol

RE: Texas Route

I guess we really could go and see San Antonio on the way back from Florida. But we do want to take our time and see some of the sights in Texas. Coming back from Florida we will take the southern route to see Galveston, Corpus Christi, and Big Bend etc so we could include San Antonio when we come back.
Still in planning stages, that is why trying to get some good ideas from you good folks.
Thanks,
Janet

RE: Texas Route

We wanted to go to San Antonio and wanted to take a leisure drive up. First stop will be Hattiesburg, MS before we go up to Tunica. My family lives up by Tunica and we own a mobile home park in Hattiesburg that we need to check out before going to Tunica.
So basically from San Antonio avoid Dallas and Austin and to Hattiesburg.
Thanks all

Texas Route

We are in planning stages of our trip from AZ to Mississippi and then down to Florida before returning.
I so far have us taking the 10 Fwy up to San Antonio. We would then like your suggestions on going from San Antonio up to the 20 Fwy (but avoiding Dallas and Austin). We need to go into MS and up to Tunica by Christmas before going to Florida.
I was checking on routes before but we are doing the southern Texas, Galveston, Big Bend etc on our way home.
Thanks for you help. We are touring and time is on our side so we would like easy route for 40'MH with sights and stops along the way.

RE: Route in Southern Texas Help

I also like to avoid the big cities, so if you like the countryside, you might want to try taking Hwy. 90 southeast from I-10 and then go south into Big Bend National Park. You can then continue southeast on Hwy. 90 toward the Del Rio area, and then east toward Goliad State Park. Nice campground and LOTS of Texas history there. Further southeast to Corpus Christi (camp on the beach at the Padre Island National Seashore), Port Aransas and Mustang Island, Rockport/Fulton, and up to Port Lavaca. All beautiful areas, and October/November is a nice time to be in those areas. Once you get back on I-10 near Winnie, Texas, plan to stay a while in the Lafayette/Breaux Bridge area of Louisiana and enjoy the Cajun music and food there.
What a great idea! Love all the suggestions. Thanks to you all!

RE: Reservations vs. No Reservations - what are the factors?

I always make reservations. Mainly for a couple of reasons.
First I love the planning stage. Setting up the route, picking the RV parks to stop at and getting ideas of different things to see and do in each stop area. We do not travel far on travel days (never over 200 miles) and we usually stay at leasst a couple of days to get the true experience. I make up my itinerary and print it with phone numbers in case I want to change anything around.
Second..We are 40' motorhome with 4 slides and it is not always easy to get into alot of parks. So with reservations I get first pick of the primo spots.
Third...It works for us and we love to do it that way, but everyone is different and has different outlooks on everything. What works for me may not be best for anyone else.
I like to be able to pull into a RV park and know that they will have space and a space big enough for me. No Stress!!! That is what is important to me.
Travel Safe!

Route in Southern Texas Help

We are in planning stages of a trip starting in October from Bullhead City to Florida and beyond.
Since it will be approaching winter we will probably stay close to the 10 fwy to avoid alot of nasty weather.
Time is on our side and we only need to be in Tunica, MS for Christmas and we do travel slowly.
My question is for southern Texas. Is there a route you prefer that will avoid San Antonio and Houston (especially Houston. We have been thru these towns before so....been there done that.
We don't drive more than 200 miles in a day so a route with some nice places to stop would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any of your suggestions.
