Need RV Friendly Fueling I-40 NC to TN

Traveling central NC to Pigeon Forge, TN and need RV Friendly gas station along the way -- I-40. Last one I personally know of is Exit 170 in Mocksville, NC (Horne's Travel Plaza), which is really not far enough along route for us. I tried looking online at Pilot-Flying J, and both locations along this section of I-40 do NOT list RV Fueling lanes.
I have Next Exit, but they only list big rig PARKING and not fueling.
So, stretch of road I'm looking at is I-40 -- west of Exit 170 in NC to Exit 407 in TN.
Thanks!

Fresh Tank Drain Valve

Does anyone know if a '05 Jayco Eagle TT has a threaded or barbed fresh tank drain valve?
The "knob" part of mine broke off, and I was able to use pliers to turn it open/closed while disinfecting this weekend. I have it closed now with a small amount of water in tank -- it'll work for upcoming trip as we camp with W&E or FHU and don't use tank water except for road use. However, it's at point where I cannot turn it anymore even with pliers, and I need to replace it.
I assume it's one or the other of these two:
Threaded
Barbed
Mine has two screws that hold it in place, and I don't see that on the threaded one, so assuming the barbed one.
Just wanting to make sure before ordering . . .
Thanks!!

RE: Leveling the TT

I back to where I want to set up, look at large level on front of TT to see if side to side adjustment is needed. If so, I pull forward or back 5 ft. or so, put down leveling blocks (I use beveled 2 x 10's that I can bolt together, if needed, and also have treated plywood if lesser correction is needed. Back up onto leveling boards and check level again. If good, disconnect TT hitch and move TV forward, I then level front to back via. tongue jack -- I have a small level attached to tongue. Then stabilizers are deployed to firm it all up.

RE: Grey water question

Our Jayco has black and two greys -- One grey is for shower/bathroom sink and the other is for galley (kithcen sink.)
It's been recommend to me and I do this to when dumping: Empty black, rinse (either with built in rinse kit or other method), then empty galley, and lastly, empty shower/bathroom sink. The galley may contain food particles, etc., and is "dirtier" than the shower/bathroom sink one.

RE: Seen any unusual floor plans?

This Flagstaff (also in Rockwood) by Forest River looks about as unique as I've seen: Flagstaff Model 30WRKSS / Rockwood Model
3002W
Master bath up front looks more like a residential one with two sinks and lots of counter space. Half bath mid ship and decent rear kitchen.

RE: Raleigh NC RV Show Jan. 20-22 worth attending?

It's my understanding that the show this weekend @ convention center in downtown Raleigh is the NCRVDA one and the one in March @ farigrounds (also in Raleigh) is the Affinity Group one. Read in this forum about other experiences/comparisons between the NCRVDA show and the Affinity Group one. I recommend the NCRVDA one.
Best deal for tickets:
Seniors Day: Friday from 10am-4pm, over 55 years old get in for only $6.00
Family Night: Friday after 4pm, all Adult Tickets are only $5.00.

RE: Furnace gas usage question.

How much of a 5 gallon tank in a night?
Propane has a heat content of 91,500 BTUs/gallon.
A full five gallon tank would give you a capacity of 450,000 BTUs.
Guessing your TT has a 20,000 - 30,000 BTU/hr. furnace, so divide your furnace rating by the total amount of energy available (propane in BTUs), and you should have your answer.
Assuming your water heater and fridge will be running (on propane, if dry camping) as well as stove will use some propane, too.
Hope this helps.

RE: Shower Head On/Off Valve

Just a quick wrap up. Installed the cut-off valve and went camping last weekend. Works great! Much easier than the twist (and shout when it doesn't twist with soapy hands) handle system.
Thanks for the replies and comments.

RE: Shower Head On/Off Valve

Thanks, everyone, for the info/feedback. I went ahead and bought the one on Amazon.com that was referenced by BarneyS and ExxWhy. Suppose to arrive tomorrow.
Since Amazon is tied to our home e-mail that DW mainly looks at, I told her I bought something on Amazon and she said she had already seen the e-mail and asked me "and what did you buy?!" When I told her what it was she said, "Good! Thankyou! I hate that twist off/on handle!!" (Happy Wife = Happy Life)
Good discussion regarding hydraulics. I think these shower shut off valves are designed to avoid scalding since they allow a small trickle of water to run in them and avoid hot water going into the cold line and causing a possible scald when the water is turned back on. The fact that just the opposite happens - you freeze since the cold is going into the hot line - and is not a safety/health issue (since your not getting scalded), it's just an annoyance.

RE: The Future Of Aluminum Sided Trailers?

When shopping for your current TT several years ago, I saw where the none of the new Jayco ('04/'05) Fivers had aluminum siding, as the previous lower priced Fivers Jayco built had.
I asked RV Dealer about that, and he said Jayco concluded that people will only pay X amount before no longer considering aluminum sided RV, and their entry level Fivers were at that price point. I realize some will still buy but not enough, in Jayco's mind, to produce it as a profitable product.

Shower Head On/Off Valve

Bought the Oxygenics shower head a few years ago and really like it. Only down side is turning water off/on with the twisting you have to do to handle - often difficult with soapy hands.
For those of you who have installed a cut off valve, please let me know what you got (ball valve? also need dia of valve) and how it worked for you.
Would like to get in next day or two as we will be taking it camping this weekend. I'm stone's throw from ACE Hardware and also Lowes and Home Depot are close.
TT's in storage, so I'm being lazy and asking y'all for help v. driving to storage to size it up.
Thanks!

RE: What companies make the better TTs???

I totally forgot about Excel and New Horizon. There may even be others.
Only other one I know about is Open Range Journeyer that has GVWR's over 13k for some models.
Thanks,

Here's what I did with 6" PVC with caps on each end. Holds Rhino hoses, clear elbow, and donut attachment. Sits on top of bumper and is held in place with spare tire mount.

RE: Suburban 2500 and Montana Mountaineer 30PRS

I have similar with '02 2500 Burb 8.1 L but with 3.73 gears. We tow a 33', 9,000 lb (GVWR) TT and do fine. My max tow is 10,400 lbs. The 4.10 bumps you up to the max 12,000 lbs. tow.
I beleive your GCWR is 18,000 lbs., which is the curb weight plus one or two 150 lb. people (like they still make those!!) = 6,000 lbs. (+/-) plus your 12,000 lb. max tow.

RE: Water Heater is quick to loose heat on 1st shower

Her shower does get the system running which might explain why I get the hot water for the entire shower.
I'm guessing she is starting the shower when the water in the water heater is the coolest which can be either still recovering from earlier use (washing dishes) or it's at a point right before it calls for fuel (propane and/or electric.) If the water heater is running (you'll hear the propane fire up and burn), wait until it cuts off, then start shower. If it's not running, right before her shower, run the hot water from one of your faucets (kitchen or bath) until you hear the water heater kick on. Then, wait until it cuts off and start her shower then. At that point, the water is the hottest it will be.

RE: Oxygenics shower heads--questions??????

As already posted, the Oxygenics gives you a stronger shower sensation while using less water. We bought ours at CW a few years ago. You cut it off and on by twisting the handle. I did a test with the stock shower head and the new Oxygenics by timing how long it took to fill up a two gallon bucket, and here are the results:
Stock: 1.67 gallons per minute (gpm)
Oxygenics: 1.15 gpm
This a a 30%+ reduction in water use. To me the best part is you don't run out of hot water in the shower -- for those of us who take longer showers and only have a 6 gallon water heater.
I believe the 2.5 gpm spec cited by Oxygenics is the maximum flow. I did my test using the TT's onboard water tank, not city connect.

RE: Irene's Coming

Here's one of the best websites I've seen for tracking hurricanes:
iControl Stormtracker.
You can choose various overlays listed on right hand side of page. Just scroll through time with the reverse/forward arrow at the bottom left of page. Estimated data (location, wind speed, pressure, movement) is listed next to arrows.
We are watching closely here in NC. Had an earthquake yesterday!!

RE: How long do you plan on full timing?

Good luck to all you future "dreamers"!
That would be me! Hope to make Class of '13 or '14 -- when I can retire w/o penalty @ age 54-55. Going to age 80 would give us 25 years on the road, or 6 mo. average in each state.
After 8 cross country tent camping trips as a kid and setting foot in all 48 lower states and camping in most, I have a huge wonderlust to go back (esp. west) and see it all again at a much slower pace.
See Map and Photo from 1964.

RE: A/C on new trailer can't keep up

Our sig TT (32-1/2' long / box is right at 30') with one slide has 15,000 BTU A/C, and I wouldn't want anything smaller. When camping in Aplin, AL two summers ago, it was 90 by 9 a.m. and very humid -- getting up to mid/upper 90's during the day, and no shade. With people in TT (we were camping with a group, so lots of folks/kids mandering around), A/C could only maintain mid 80's in heat of the day.
On days we went out and TT sat empty, A/C kept it much cooler.
I recommend you crank A/C down in the morning to avoid "catch up", set fan on "On" v. Auto and on "High," leave the bathroom roof vent open to let hot/humid shower steam out.

RE: Trailer storage in Wake Forest NC area

Welcome to NC!!
We store our TT at Extra Attic. It's not cheap ($79/mo.), but is only 1/4 mi. from house, so that's a big plus for us. Guessing they could charge more, as I was on waiting list for 18 months before I got my site.
On site manager, makes daily rounds in golf cart, security cameras, coded gate with extended hours for access for Boat/RV Storage folks (5 a.m. - 11 p.m.)
Next house will have enough room for RV.
