RE: What to do about door with exposed glass fibers

Grab a BIC razor, and give it a good shave. I've done it on several boats, it works really well. Gel or foam shaving cream? :B

RE: Need photo editing program???

If you do end up wanting something different from Picasa, you might look into Photoshop Elements.

RE: Recommended TT for a Tahoe 5.3L V8

I just purchased a new 2012 GMC Yukon with factory tow package. I have a Prodigy p2 installed. I am looking to purchase a light wt TT and am wondering how large I can go?? The specs on the Yukon are: curb wt 5448, GVWR 7100 Max Trailering 8500 lbs. GCWR 14000 lbs. I am concerned about the length since I travel in the southwest desert and are subject to wind. I have been looking at the Heartland North Trails. My wife likes the NT 24RBS but I am worried about the 28' 8" lenght in a side wind. The unit is going to be about 5500 lbs wet and there will only be the two of us. Can anybody give me some guidance?? As far as weight, according to your specs the Yukon should have no problem pulling a trailer that is 5500-6k lbs. I can't advise you on the wind/length though, as I am not running as similar setup. You might compare the wheelbase numbers on your rig to some of the 1/2 ton trucks and see how they match up. FWIW, my 1/2 ton short bed (5.3 v8, 3:73 gears) pulls my 25' ~5500K trailer just fine and we've been through some pretty decent wind here in WA, but not sure how it compares to your situation. Good luck in finding some helpful answers.

RE: Recommended TT for a Tahoe 5.3L V8

It's not necessarily about what it CAN pull (weight ratings). It's more about what it can pull safely and comfortably. The wheel base on many SUVs is typically shorter than most pickup trucks, which can lead to loss of handling ability if a trailer is too long, improperly loaded, or overloaded. There are many TTs that the Tahoe can pull without problems, but just one more thing to keep in mind.

RE: Honda eu3000is surging?

I bought a can of SeaFoam from the local Oreilly Auto Parts store. You can also get it through most marine supply stores. Not sure how it differs from Stabil. I have always used Stabil, but have heard that SeaFoam does more than preserve the gas as it is supposed to be good for the carb and engine too. Can't say why. In regards to water, the local Honda dealer told me that there is water in any gas you buy at the pump, but how much will vary. They sell a specialized filter funnel that will separate the gas from the water. They told me they've gotten as much as a cup out of 5 gallons of locally purchased gas. Wouldn't tell me where they purchased it from. I didn't buy the filter, but would not doubt there is some water in most supplied gas from fuel stations. I'm sure they're allowed a certain amount by law. Would be interested to test it out myself, but not for the $50 they wanted for the special filter funnel.

RE: Cooking venison

My 2C. We have elk a lot and although it tastes different than venison, it's the same concept. For burger, you have to add fat from pork or beef, otherwise it's too lean. Mix venison burger with ground pork or beef until you find a ratio to taste that you like. I get great reviews on my elk burgers. 'Course elk does have a more mild flavor in my opinion. I use the elk burger for taco mix, spaghetti sauce, meatloaf...etc. All good. Have also made a Salisbury Steak out of it that was quite good. For steaks, my family isn't as fond of straight elk on the grill, so usually will season it well or marinate at the least. We like to slice the steaks up into thin strips and I'll stir fry (many different sauces for that), make elk stroganoff or fajitas. For the tenderloin (can do this to regular steaks too) I make a recipe I found on the web called Bacon Wrapped Elk Tenderloin. (works with venison too). Have not met anyone who doesn't like it yet. :B Tastes sort of like succulent teriyaki jerky.Sweet Bacon Wrapped Tenderloin recipe Almost forgot roasts. I usually don't get roasts made from mine, but when I do get them, I make sure I drape some sort of fat (like bacon slices or beef tallow) over the top while roasting to give it flavor and help baste the roast as they turn out really dry otherwise. If nothing else, get creative and try something new. Have fun.

RE: Honda eu3000is surging?

Well, took it to the dealer and they said they cleaned it out and that it was now running good. Took it home and started it up. Still surging. Back to the dealer it went. After a little run around, they took a long look at it and found that it was missing a part on the carb, so replaced the carb and part. Runs fine now. Couldn't tell me why it ran fine the first weekend I bought it even with missing part. At any rate, it seems to work just fine now. Thanks for all the input. :D As a result I have now adopted getting ethanol-free gas (+ Stabil) and letting the carb run dry after shutting the fuel valve off. PS. Even after shutting off the fuel valve and letting the generator run itself out, I will still drain the float bowl and get a little gas out of it. FYI.

RE: honda generator for RV

We run ours in the back of the truck. Just use common sense. Make sure it's well ventilated (both for heat and exhaust), lock it up if need be, and make sure it's got good air flow (yes that sounds redundant). We keep the vents at the front of the TT closed to prevent any exhaust from coming in if the wind direction changes. I wouldn't suggest taking a nap while doing so either.

RE: Creative uses for cilantro?

Yes, you're right. Seems like of the people I know it's a love or hate relationship....I'm talking about cilantro. :) I love it and mainly use it in Mexican and Indian dishes. I recently tried this indian tikka dish that was really good once I added some coconut milk and couple other "to taste" things to the recipe. If you like to experiment the recipe itself is a good base for, what turned out to be, a very good dish. Hariyali Tikka I am also fond of adding lots of cilantro to fresh salsa or pico de gallo. Hope you find some winning recipes.

RE: No Television??

When we got our TT, I thought it was so cool that I could put a TV in there, so found a used 13" and installed it. In the first year we used it a total of ZERO times. Finally realized it was dead weight and so out it came. We do take a portable DVD player for the kids to watch when the weather is bad and we need them to stop acting like monkeys for a few moments, so we can drink our coffee in peace, but other than that, no time to watch TV, so not necessary for us. :)

RE: Honda eu3000is surging?

I still cannot find anything in my manual about turning off the fuel and running the unit dry. I'm not sure why they would omit this if it was previous SOP that worked. Manual for my eu3000is

RE: Honda eu3000is surging?

Is it better to drain it, or let it run dry like I do, either letting it run out of gas, or shutting it off at the fuel petcock? I was told by our local lawnmower repair shop that with today's gasoline and modern small gas engines, running the engine dry is not good enough because there will still be some gas left in the carb to evaporate and cause problems. I had a new tiller that I used once and then ran it out of gas before storing or the winter. The next year it would not start and had to have the carb cleaned. Dick Good to know. Thanks. I will turn off fuel line and run dry, but will also drain the float bowl for added measure.

RE: Honda Generator Age- Can you tell?

Around here, even the beat up EU2000's seem to sell for $800..... LOL. I bought my EU3000 new for less than the used ones are being listed around here. :h Makes me wonder if people actually buy them used for these prices. I think in all my local craigslist searching over the past 5 years I've only seen one Honda EU model that was priced at what I think would have been a bargain, pending it was in good operating condition.

RE: Honda eu3000is surging?

I get lots of gasoline tools for free cause no one can get them to run. It takes me 20 minutes to pull carb apart and clean out all the fuel jets and passages and problem gone :S Funny thing, I do the same thing. Pick up lawn mowers, string trimmers, and chainsaws all the time. Usually a quick carb clean (float bowl and jets), fuel filter replacement, and exhaust screen cleaning and they're as good as new. Never seen one get gummed up after only three months though. If it were not a brand new unit, I'd have tackled the carb myself. As sc3283 indicated earlier, maybe it's got a lower tolerance for slightly degraded fuel. Will take it as a lesson learned.

RE: Honda eu3000is surging?

Well, ran a tank with Seafoam through it. Helped a bit, but still surging, especially on start up. Took it back to the dealer as it's only a few months old. Dealer thinks it probably was gas. Said that it's the ethanol that breaks down so fast in today's fuel. Also said Stabil is not enough and really need an ethanol stabilizer additive. :S I see Stabil is now producing a product that specifies for ethanol. I think I now have more containers of various fuel additives in my garage than I do fuel for all my small engines. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

RE: Pipe dope or Teflon tape on Suburban anodes?

Is there a tool to chase out the threads of the tank fitting? I assume it has to be tapered. Take a short piece of pipe, with thread, the same size as the tank fitting, and cut 2 or 3 slots across the threads, parallel with the pipe, with a hack saw or cut off wheel on grinder. This will work well for chasing/cleaning threads. Dusty Great idea, thanks. Think I have some in the garage already. I would guess that heavier black gas line pipe would be the best choice for this?

RE: Pipe dope or Teflon tape on Suburban anodes?

I moved from using tape to dope. The previous owner of my TT never changed the anode rod (which still had a little life left when I got it) so, the threads on my Suburban water heater have enough hard water corrosion in them that with tape I'd still see a little water getting past, so tried the dope and don't get any leaks, but have to tighten as much as I'm comfortable with. Is there a tool to chase out the threads of the tank fitting? I assume it has to be tapered.

RE: Roof vents open or closed for the winter?

I keep mine just slightly cracked (don't have Maxair covers) to encourage ventilation and air movement. I also place a couple of heated air driers in mine over the winter months.

RE: Suburban Water Heater Not Working on Electric Side

The switch on my Suburban was also stuck when I bought the TT (used). It was stuck in the on position and the electric side still didn't work. I sprayed some WD40 into the switch (electricity disconnected to TT) and managed to free it and then worked it back and forth a few times. Works fine now. I think corrosion of the contacts had something to do with it. Turns out the element in mine was also bad, but once I replaced that all is in good working order.
