RE: Slide-out moves with a cant after repair. Is this bad?

Is it hydraulic or motor/cable and pulley. If the latter, then there is a chance the cable is out of the pulley some place and one side is 'longer' than the other, causing one edge to be slightly behind the other.

RE: North Georgia Mountains

River Bend on the Hiawassee River in Hiawassee, Ga is very nice. Very clean CG and the rest rooms are immaculate. Pool is nice and the river is right beside your site if you want to fish out the back window.

RE: What is your favorite pass in Colorado?

Independence Pass. We did that from Aspen up in a 36 foot MH (Yep, ignored the signs) It got pretty narrow on up toward the top, but was absolutely beautiful

RE: 2-3 days in Western South Dakota....suggestions please

We have spent a couple of summers at Custer and there are any number of good campgrounds in the area. With kids, a KOA can be expensive (Keep On Adding) Custer Gulch is OK, Broken Arrow is OK, Big Pine is OK, all in the Custer (city area) The family that owns Crazy Horse also has a CG right beside the Mickelson Trail and a great view of the monument. Not a great CG but adequate. most of the CGs on the west side of Custer city have pools, which might make them attractive to kids. This is a great area for a basecamp and you can easily reach Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer SP and the wildlife, Needles Hiway and Sylvan Lake with just a short drive. Hill City is just over the 'mountain' and there is a ton of neat things for kids there.

RE: North of Baxter State Park...Maine

Have driven the private, unpaved road from Baxter to Moosehead Lake. Fun trip and neat driving slow. Ms C wanted to see moose but none were spotted.

RE: Georgia on my mind

We like River Vista Mountain Village in Dillard, just south of the TN line. The place has a great outdoor pool with hot tub, and a heated indoor pool with a wave machine in it. And don't miss the Dillard House - beautiful old restaurant with great views, family-style meals. Wonderful area, year-round.

That is North Carolina not Tenn. And you are soooo right, beautiful view of the falls and a short trip to Highlands and some really nice river, falls and rapids

Locked out

Recently helped my widowed sister-in-law move her MH and get the AC repaired. When I returned to to the parking pad, I picked up the wrong set of keys and left the door key lying on the console between the two seats. Tried every way to get inside and finally gave up and called GS roadside assistance. The lady I spoke with was very cordial and helpful and managed to get a locksmith to come unlock the door. Although he took a while to get there, he was inside the coach very quickly after he arrived.
My question is this > How can this guy operate his business when he had to drive nearly 50 mile to reach us and then 50 miles back? Does Good Sam pay that well? Thanks again Bulldog Locksmith, you did great.

RE: Trip to Mount Rushmore from Kentucky

A good place to overnite is the Cabelas parking lot in Mitchell SD. They invite RVers to stop and offer a dedicated parking area and a dump. I believe there is water available also. We have stayed there and around dark there was about a dozen RVs in the parking area.

RE: Rattlesnakes

I am not a snake person!! Don't like them, not even pictures of them. That said, we had a neighbor's 10 year old child bitten by copperhead last saturday. On a lawn that is well kept. Didn't step on the snake, just near it and it nailed her on the ankle. The EMS here life-flighted her to a children's hospital (Egelston) in Atlanta. Tremendous pain and swelling in the leg, and getting above the knee. The EMS folks told us they no longer use anti-venom. Apparently it has a detrimental effect on the body and is used "only as a last resort". I don't know what that means. This was a 30 + inch snake, which is LARGE for a copperhead in this area. It did not survive the post-bite encounter with the neighbor.

RE: Lake Hartwell SC/Ga

Watsadler on US 29 on the Geogia side of the dam. Springfield in SC (forgot the town and hiway number) near the dam. Both are very nice. Tugaloo is OK, but the locals think they own the place, especially the peninsula with the best sites. Hart SP in Hartwell city is nice, and even has some FHU sites.

RE: Winnebago Factory Defect

egh33 > That is the aluminum rail that runs on the top of the side walls, on either side from the front cap to the rear cap. One side has the gutter etc and the inside has the "J" that the fiberglass roof curves over the side and tucks down into. The joint is then caulked between the edgeof the J and the roof. Now the entire fiberglass sheet that comprises the top layer of the roof is glued to the substrait, so it is not like if the edge comes loose the roof will come flying off and leaving pop sitting on the toilet looking up at the blue sky. Winne says to check the roof seams - sides, front and rear every six months. Simply press in on the fiberglas with your thumb, just above the seam. It it separates from the sealer, simply cut the old sealer out and then press in and caulk into the gap and release. This method not only seals the surface, but also down into the joint as well. Not hard to do, but time consuming moving the ladder etc.
I find it interesting that someone with a coach as old as the 99 Chieftan the OP mentions did not mention whether or not he had done the required checks and maintenance and then expected Winne to take care of him.
I would take the fiberglass roof on my previous Winne product over the present coach with the TPO roof anyday. But, all this is just mey opinion.

RE: Breakdown...

Actually that price seems to be about average for a company shop here in the SE. There are some jack-leg types that might do it for less, but with these types trying to save me money, it always works out costing more in the long run. Sorry you are having to go through this stress

RE: Roof issue on Allegro: What the heck am I looking at?

I am not sure that is the roof that is peeling off. If so that has to be some of the thinnest EPDM I have ever seen. Also, is the EPDM laid directly on the underlayment of plywood. That curved surface under the peel looks more like fiberglass than wood or styrofoam to me.
I suggest the OP pull a sliver of the peel off and take a closer look than what the photo shows. I see more evidence of some sort of coating peeling off than a roof. Just my humble opinion however.

RE: James Island SC County Park

That works for me as well. I cannot remember the names of the roads/streets but the first time we went the GPS had the best route, but I saw a sign(s) directing us through a pretty much residential area. The route we use now ends up with us coming in about a block or so (across a small bridge) and then back up to the entrance with a left hand turn. We keep saying we are going at Christmas and still haven't done it.
Drive over the big bridge while you are there and visit Red's Ice House on Shem Creek. Great food and atmosphere.

RE: Camping in the USA

We have had to get dogs out of the showers a couple of times when the owners saw nothing wrong with Fluffy showering with them. I guess they did not realize the dog hair stops up shower drains and other people don't want to shower where a dog has just finished. Also had tent campers washing dishing in the sinks in the CG restrooms. The cleaning crew LOVED that bunch.

RE: James Island SC County Park

The only problem we have ever had with James Island is the signs that direct you there (off 17) is they will direct you down streets that have overhanging limbs that are very close to the top of the MH. We actually hit a small one and broke it. Thank goodness there was not real damage to the coach. We did some scouting before leaving to find a route with less overhang and wider streets so we could dodge the lower ones.

Try some of the state parks in the south part of Georgia. They need hosts all year long. Full hookups and few hours, but all volunteer
