RE: Sold my trailer and TT

Getting along in age and wife getting to the point she did not want to travel any more in the trailer
Well, maybe if you'd have let her ride in the TV with you this could have been delayed for years. Gotta give credit to ridin' around in a TT with no A/C, that's a tough lady.
That's a good thought. I thought all these years that she liked it back there. After all, that's where all the goodies were.

RE: Sold my trailer and TT

We're also without a camper now, and I went through severe withdrawals for the first few months. I'd still like to have another one, but the craving is fading a little. Our next one (if we get another one) will be a small, go anywhere type TT, such as an A-liner or one of the Flagstaff hardsided pop ups. I want NOTHING to do with canvas! I don't want a gas sucking truck again (never thought I'd say this!), and I've really gotten to like my smaller Toyota RAV-4 (with tow package, just in case!).
You don't have to leave the forum, just b/c you're w/out a TT! I still enjoy it, even w/out a camper!
I know what you mean about the withdrawal symptoms. When we went out this morning, I looked for my Excursion and for a moment, thought someone had stolen it. I am with you. I don't want another gas hog. Am looking for a mid size pickup now. Just something to pull my boat with, and like you said, perhaps a small one. Thanks to all for your best wished. I will still be lucking around.

Sold my trailer and TT

The time in my life finally came. Getting along in age and wife getting to the point she did not want to travel any more in the trailer. I have been pondering over this moment for quiet a while now and finally bit the bullet. I have enjoyed chatting and occasionally offering a bit of advice on this forum and will still be lucking around. One bright spot is that a real nice family bought the rig and I know they will enjoy it as much as I have. Good Luck to you all..

I just put them on my Lexus. $1350 for 4 of them. They were around $900 two years ago.

RE: sad state of affairs.

Its bad for sure. My brother was at a red light in his truck with a pickup camper. A young blonde girl walked up, took off her shirt and started washing his windshield. Meanwhile, her accomplice snuck into the camper and rifled through the drawers. After he figured out what happened, he drove back there and they got him again!! He came back the next day but they were gone.
Why was he running with his doors unlocked? (I'm guessing this is bit of tongue and cheek here, but still, that leaves me scratching my head).
I can tell anytime someone's stepping up to the back door, the truck bounces a little from the levering action of the 48" extension that the main step is on.
Yes. but think what he was watching!!!!!. I bet his mind was not on a bouncing truck.

RE: Car Door Dings - What would you do?

The dent can be taken out by a capable body repair place without major work. I had one taken out on a Cadillac door and watched the repairman do it. He drilled a hole in the door jam and worked the dent out with a long rod with a piece of tape on it. He kept working with it until it was completely gone. He overdid it at one point and he pushed it back in with a candlestick. When he was done you could not tell it had ever been there. He then plugged the hole with a rubber plug.

RE: Who has eaten a "Smashburger" ?

We have two in our town, one is very close and had to try it. Tried it once and went back for try no.2. There will not be a third try. I really don't think they will make it if this one was an example of what they serve. There are too many good hamburger places around for Smashburber to fly. My son was in town over the holidays from Phoenix and he tried it. Same result.

RE: Tired of hard riding trucks.

I totally agree with you about the harsh rides on the big trucks. If you need more towing power than the 1/2 ton truck can give you, look for a good Excursion with either a diesel or the V10. Much more comfortable than a truck and more civilized also. Good Luck..

RE: Transmission fluid in the gas tank?

From what I remember from my "backyard mechanics days", the gasoline in the carb is leaking down into the cylinder head overnight. An earlier poster suggested a carb kit. I totally agree with that fix. Transmission fluids or other additives will not help. Good Luck..

RE: Totaled TT, Cost?

My TT was recently totaled due to hail damage. The insurance company was very generous on establishing a price on my TT and settled without a problem. I then purchased my TT back from them for 3 grand. IF your damage is covered you will probably come out OK Good Luck

RE: One Born Every Minute... Sad Story

Not all scams are from Nigeria. Some are from the good old United States, and by legitimate businesses. For example: My brother-in-law in his later years was convinced that he was going to win $10,000 from Readers Digest. He received a letter from them telling him that winning was between him and one other person. If he responded before the OP did, he "had a chance" to win the $10,000. Of course he was offered an item of "junk jewelery" for only $19.95. They strung him along for over 5 years. In the end he was sending them over $500.00 a month for junk items. Of course, it was legal, because he did receive the items. Many persons, including myself, told him that he was never going to win anything, but he was convinced the "check was in the mail" Some people just cannot be protected from themselves.

RE: East to West I-40 in the winter..advice

I just made the trip on I40 from Las Vegas to Amarillo. I was stopped by a snowstorm for two hours just before I got to Flagstaff. I understand it was a lot worse later in the week. I hit snow all the way into Amarillo and then on to Dallas. The roads were cleared pretty quickly by snow plows. My advise to you would be to drop on down to I-10 before you get to Amarillo. You will have clear sailing that way. Good Luck..

RE: Dirt Dobbers nested in Gas Line to Fridge

That has happened to me several times. I simply unhooked the gas line to every appliance (At the appliance). Then unscrewed it from the tanks. Shot a blast of air from our air compresser at home through the line at the fitting for the tank. After a few minutes of constant air pressure. It "SHOULD" blow all the dobbers out, and your ready to white tape, and screw back in.
i'm confused as to how bugs of any kind can get into a gas line thats screwed in. how could they possibly get past the threads? must be i'm missing something here..
The gas has to come out in order to burn. They can sneak in this opening.

RE: Dirt Dobbers nested in Gas Line to Fridge

With the labor costs at the RV repair places costing at lease $95 to $120/hour it will be well worth your time and efforts to do this yourself. I doubt if the lines will have to be replaced. Like others have said a little hunting and picking can save you a bundle. Good Luck..

RE: Wisdom - selling home & taking gold or silver payment

Far be it for me to advise anyone on investments. That said, I bought Silver when it was $19.00 and gold when it was $800. I now wish I had bought more at these prices. I also wish I had sold when silver reached 49 for a day or so. If I were in your situation, I would buy metals (I have the actual metal), but not in the amount that a drastic drop would wipe me out. I have read many articles that the experts believe gold will reach 2000 by the years end. Only time will tell. Good luck with whatever you do.
