RE: Annual Spring Gathering @ Turning Stone, May 18-20th,2012

Larry's having a tough week. During geneology research in Tennessee, he found out that Linda is his sister.
Then, today, the NCAA announced yet MORE infractions by that Ohio State University's football program.
I'm not sure how much more he can take. :b
Hope you's are all having fun and everyone's finally arrived safely. Great location.

Home safely and hope everyone else is, as well. Thanks to Dave for setting this one up! :b
Had a blast and am super grateful for friends who drive a long way to see friends. Truly!

RE: The GB Gathering By Jake and Ellwood (and Maury)

Washed the RV, de-winterized, working on cleaning up the inside and now fixing a broken drawer. Just need to pickup a small piece of luan, pack and we'll be ready to hit the road on Friday. Looking forward to the weekend. Hope the weather is good. Cindy just told me the weather channel is calling for 12" - 18" of snow west of here!!! Hope that's the last death throws of winter!!!
Jamie, two weeks ago we were in Phoenix with 85 and sunny. This is brutal! Looking forward to seeing you guys!
Jamie...Can't wait to see you folks.

Feel better! And watch the weather, please. It's Spring and tornado's abound.
Stopped in Cheyenne Wyo. for the night to wait out mother nature and hopefully feel better in the morning. Drove thru snow flurries all day today, did not want to tackle a tornado tonight!
Smart feller.

RE: The GB Gathering By Jake and Ellwood (and Maury)

We saw Kurt and Sue in DC at Cherry Hill on Thursday night!
Dave....you're my idol.
Worst traffic of the entire trip was in DC. NY was the easy part!
We enjoyed two weeks in Fla. Took in a Florida State Seminole baseball game where the Noles beat the Hokies. Then spent eleven awesome days at Fort Wilderness.
I will let Donna share her experience at the South Carolina Welcome Center on the way down. Best night's sleep i'd had in months!
Looking forward to seeing everyone.

RE: Dynatrac or Double Coin tires

The rivering on our Goodyears on the front axle was horrific. New shocks and two alignments since 2004. Rubber looked like it had come off in chunks last Fall and degraded fast.
Rears looked fine, with the exception of the recently developed bulge in the sidewall.
Manufacture date on the OEM GY's was 2003 and we purchased the 2004 MH in March, 2004. Was time for new tires.
It is impossible to get GY's with newer manufacture dates than 2008 in our area. That was through two commercial truck tire places and a Ford dealer.
After much research if I wanted to go in this direction, I was able to secure GY's with 2008 manufacture dates at $505/ea, plus $40/tire for balance/mount/etc. $545 out the door.
I ended up with the Double Coins with manufacture dates in mid-2011 for $300/apiece, out the door.
There are a some of folks on this forum that have been running them for a while and they have been pleased. Time will tell.
Interestingly enough, one place initially quoted me $275/ea for GY' G670's but when I inquired as to the manufacture date, they TOO were 2008. So, strange as it sounds, those two tires are available at that price, however the "Newer" ones they would order were in excess of $500 and they too were manufactured in 2008 once they arrived at the tire place. Crazy.
I don't take safety lightly. I'm comfortable with my decision and was unable to find any reason NOT to go with the Double Coins. Time will tell.

RE: 245 70 29.5 Tire Opinion

I called EVERY tire shop in the phone book. Most don't actually stock the tires but can get them in a day or two. Basically they have been quoting me "truck" tires that are "all position". The two main specs I have been looking at is 14 ply G rating (a step up from the original 12 ply F, but not as hard riding as the 16 ply H ratings) and an L speed rating (75 MPH), many in this size are only 62 or 65 MPH rated. That was the basis of the Goodyear G159 lawsuit. Goodyear recommended a 65MPH "in town" delivery tire for RV highway use and magically raised the speed rating to 75 MPH. Then RVs going 70 started having blowouts. Thus I want a "real" L 75 MPH rated tire. THis is why I had to rule out Sumitomo (as well as Double Coin) since they were only a 65 MPH rated tire.
I still haven't made a decision yet. I'm leaning towards Kumho KRS03, Hankook AH11, or Cooper/RoadMaster RM170.
Which Double Coin tires did you look at? The RT500 245 70 19.5 is speed rated at "M" which would be up to 81 mph.
Their "off-the-road" tires are rated 62 mph or below. The Double Coins are comparable to the Hankook AH-11.
