RE: Need suggestions for first time full time RVing

You DID ask for anything of importance so.....
If you are going to be fulltiming I might suggest that a TT might not be the best choice of RV. I'll only cite what my DW might consider THEE most important issue - STORAGE OF STUFF in the trailer. So happens - I agree. Granted some of the newer TTs have a "basement" but that space is no where near what you'd get in, for example, a 5th wheel.
Other than that... enjoy your new lifestyle

RE: Check the roof on new trailers

That is weird! I can't imagine what would cause enough pressure to "blow out" like that unless the manufacturer did one heck of a pressure test in the factory just after caulking - but that's near impossible to believe.
It's almost like it was originally caulked around a round post resting on the roof which was pulled out as the caulking was setting up. I know.. that's just as weird an explanation as any other I've read.

RE: Please wash your hands

I guess I just don't see the point in wearing gloves unless you're planning to get into it up to your elbows if ya know what I mean. Unless something really ugly happens during the process I say high and dry.
I do wash my hands vigorously with good ole soap and hot water when finished though.

RE: Ugly Encounter at Campground

Not cutting through occupied sites, prohibited by rule or not, seems to be an acquired or learned activity. I would bet my bottom dollar that the vast majority of fulltimers, and well seasoned recreational RVers do NOT engage in the practice.
The park we're in right now has a motel on the same property. Our site backs up to Tillamook Bay and I notice many of the motel guests cutting through our site on their way to the Bay. On weekends it's like a parade! Kinda fun actually - I rearranged our lawn chairs (4 of them), my BBQ grill & table, and picnic table so I could watch as they slalom through the site.:B I'm waiting for a couple to sit down at our picnic table - I would rush out with napkins and silverware and ask "Do you folks need a menu or are you ready to order now?"
I don't know.... if ya get to talking to them and you become temporary campground buds.. you could mention the written/unwritten rule over a beer. Otherwise if they're not being obnoxious, crude, or rude - life is too short - ya know?
One last observation.. and it's only that.. the OP mentioned that his wife TOLD them FIRMLY but not RUDELY to not cut through.... Gotta tell ya... if someone I don't know speaks to me FIRMLY, the hairs on the back of my neck would stand straight out and I would IMMEDIATELY go on the DEFENSIVE. Don't mean to defend the beer spitting incident though.
Peace out....

RE: Slide Question

Here is how I would tackle this issue. I would leave the slides out until a week before we break camp for the season. At that point I would run each slide in and out. That way I have a week to figure out why the one slide won't retract and have time to repair it. Can you tell I've had trouble in the past?

RE: Day Night Blinds

I restrung mine myself - a few tricks to learn (always the hard way for me) the first time - but easy enough in the end.
Trick 1: If possible draw a simple diagram/picture of the routing of the cord before beginning the restring.
Trick 2: The string coming down the left side of the shades actually routes over the the right in the rigid horizontal bars.
Trick 3: Once you remove the end caps from the horizontal bars, the bottom piece of the bar slips out and that makes it very easy to restring through those rigid bars.
BUT in the process of responding, I found THIS WEB SITE. Not only do they sell "restring kits".. but ALL the little bits and pieces associated with the shades and attachment do-dads - including the little plastic cord spools that screw into the window frame.

RE: Removing small Lp can from Weber Q before storing?

REMOVE IT! And cover the gas port with the plastic cover attached to the weber regulator to prevent getting the port fouled with ... whatever. As Scott G said, that regulator valve can be rotated from OFF to HIGH very easily. My did in the covered bed of my PU. BIG surprise when I retracted the cover - could easily have been a BIG KABOOM!

RE: Yikes, we did it

We started our fulltiming adventure 3.5 years ago - just down the road from ya, in Corpus Christi. Every time I read one of this "just getting started" posts it reminds me of the great feeling I had as I watched Corpus Christi disappear from my side view mirrors!
Have a great time and remember... in retirement... tomorrow is soon enough!

RE: Estimate for repair

AS critical as the roofing, sealing materials and roof-wall interfaces are, you'd think RV manufacturers would invest in AND PASS ALONG the price of much better materials and sealing protocols! Crimminies - I paid $70K for my trailer! Would I have balked at another $2K for significantly better weather proofing (and possibly even guarantee)?
HECK NO!

I wish you many more trips like your first one this year Ramblin Recks.
DW and I have been full timing for 3.5 years now and not a day goes by that we don't thank God for this retirement life we have been enjoying. Seems also that not a day goes by where one or the other of us mentions just how great a day it is.
YES... our cups are half full!

RE: Water in FW tank sitting for 3 weeks -- dump and sanitize?

I guess if it was convenient to dump and refill I guess I would. Second thought - NO I wouldn't. Sometimes I think we make too much of this "sanitizing" - especially of city water - deal. I sanitize my potable water tank once a year but even question that necessity.
PLEASE prove me wrong someone. Has anyone seen a documented case of serious health issues related to the ingestion of water that has been sitting in a well maintained RV's sealed tank for 1 month, 2? 3? 6?.......
If the example is credible I will start sanitizing once a month! Maybe put a "skull and cross bones" symbol on the faucets when pumping water from the tank.

RE: Slow market or what?

We are full timing in ours and it has been on various markets for about 2 months now.. well maintained, really great shape, moderately/low asking price yada yada yada..
I BELIEVE that RV's will sell a lot quicker when they are opened up and parked in a well established busy RV Dealer's lot. Once we get really serious about settling down somewhere - that's what we are going to do.
Good luck to ya!

RE: Skyline (Koala) - Small Fiberglass Strands Inside Trailer

THIS IS ONE OF THOSE "IF IT WERE ME" RESPONSES SO PLEASE REMEMBER THAT
I am no doctor but common sense is telling me that you should be wearing a respirator while in the trailer until that******is removed! Lungs and minuscule debris (of any material) is NOT A GOOD MATCH.
CALL a PROFESSIONAL LICENSED CLEANER who has experience with this sort of issue - and a local outfit like "Mable's Maids Service" is NOT EXPERIENCED" to do the job.
The who, what, when, where issues regarding the origin of that******is secondary to your health - and your two little bundles of joy!
GET IT CLEANED - then attack all those other issues. In the mean time
KEEP YOUR KIDS OUT OF THERE!

RE: How to break the ice with our CG neighbors?

I have a pair of bright pink flamingos I put out at the RV parks we stay at...that gets the neighbors talking! :b
If it weren't for "dupicate posts" RV.net wouldn't be the fantastic resource it is! So post whatever (within editorial bounds) ya want, whenever ya want.

Pets are always a good breakerCommon Interest clues (look for golf clubs, fishing rods, BBQ Grill type, etc)Reading outside - Kinde, paperbacksComment on cooking aromas from "last night etc"Ask questions about camping / your trailer / their trailerJudging you by your "friendy, easy going style of writing" I suspect you know all this - so just go Break The ICE!

RE: Walmart parking lot stays - need advice please

Unless the need is DIRE (funds exhausted) - AVOID WALMART overnights. If for NO other reason - for the sake of the kids. What the heck fun would it be for them.. They are out for a fun camping experience - not some blue light special on Isle 10.

RE: What do full timers do to NOT become bored with life style

Have you ever written a lengthy reply to a post, hit the "Post Message" button and have a page pop up like - That webpage is not available - or the like? Just did on me.
So let me cut to the quick....
Don't spend the next 5 or 6 years dreaming about a fulltiming life void of BOREDOM because, as much as DW and I enjoy the lifestyle, no matter how active you become, no matter how exciting the places you visit are - it is within the average person's normal range of emotions to fee BORED from time to time. How bored.. how often ya feel it... NOBODY can answer that FOR you EXCEPT you.
Good Luck to ya!
