Tire pressure versus tire age

I have a 2006 Monaco Knight that we are heading down to Myrtle Beach in next week. The tires are original Goodyear G670's and have no sign of dry rot. The cold pressure recommendation on the sidewalls are a maximum of 125psi. I currently have 120psi in all 6. I had a friend today recommend that I run them at 110 psi due to there age. Is this a valid recommendation? Any input is appreciated.

RE: Massachusetts to Mrytle Beach Advice

I might do the George Washington bridge on the way down since I will be hitting it around 4 or 5 am on a Sunday and then do the Tappan Zee on the way home. Are there any propane restrictions on the George Washington Bridge route? Also, which seems better between 695 east and 695 west to avoid the Fort McHenry Tunnel? One final question, I want to get fuel before I exit I95 in the North/south Carolina area. Is fueling a 41' diesel pusher with a 20' enclose trailer gonna be a hard task in that area?

RE: Allison Fluid level question

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up using the dipstick and added 2 more quarts. I then got it up to temp and the keypad is now reading OK. So in the end, it took 22 quarts with the tranny cooler to get the fluid up to the proper range. Thanks again!

RE: Allison Fluid level question

After the initial change, the pad said low 3 but I only added one. Now it says low 3 again. So at this point it is saying low 3 and I have installed 20 quarts, not 22.

RE: Allison Fluid level question

One other question, if I check the fluid with the dipstick, should the engine be running or off? Should the transmission be hot or cold?

Allison Fluid level question

I recently did the fluid and filter change on my 2006 Monaco Knight. It is equipped with the Allison MH3000. I bought my TES295 and filters directly from a Allison distributor and the change went flawless. My only question is this, I drained out all the fluid into a 5 gallon bucket so I know 20 quarts or less drained out. After installing the new filters and filling with the 19 quarts recommended on the Allison directions, I took the motorhome for a ride to heat up and re-check fluid level. The electronic shifter pad now says i'm low 3 quarts. I added 1 quarts because thats all I had left and then the shifter said low 2 quarts. I left it like this until I could get more fluid and then I reheated the engine and checked again. Now the shifter is saying low 3 again. I now have another gallon on hand but dont want to over fill the system without finding out the facts. I know my coach has a external trans cooler but could that add almost a gallon of capacity? I am leaving on a 2000 mile trip in a few weeks and want this squared away before I leave. Any input would be appreciated.

RE: antifreeze question for diesel pusher

No sensor changes, I have used a hydrometer to test the antifreeze.

RE: antifreeze question for diesel pusher

I used the concentrate. I put in a little over 4 gallons of antifreeze and around 3 and a half gallons of distilled water.

RE: antifreeze question for diesel pusher

I checked the hydrometer with some 50/50 ELC out of the jug and all five balls floated. Since it hasnt been cold since I did this, I will drain a gallonout of the system on my days off and add a gallon of concentrate.

antifreeze question for diesel pusher

Last year I flushed the cooling system on my 2006 Monaco Knight. I used a universal gold antifreeze that met Cummins specs. After some research, I decided to change it this year to Rotella ELC. So, last week, I flushed the system again 3 times and then filled with a 60/40 mixture of ELC & distilled water. After taking it for a ride, the temp according to my Aladin system is running a degree or so hotter than before. I then purchased a cheap hydrometer to test the antifreeze and only one out of five balls are floating. Does anyone know how much water is still in the system from the engine to the front heater core that might have been trapped in the system dilluting my mixture. Does anyone know if these hydrometers work with red antifreeze or only green? Any input would be appreciated.

RE: Massachusetts to Mrytle Beach Advice

I plan on leaving Massachusetts around 2 or 3AM on a Sunday. I also plan on returning the following Sunday. At this time, I planned on shooting straight down 95 thru New York but was mainly concerned about the tunnel in Maryland. Thanks guys

Massachusetts to Mrytle Beach Advice

I'm thinking about going to Mrytle Beach this year and was looking for route advice. In the past, I have just taken 95 south all the way but I remember a tunnel in the Delaware area that didnt allow hazardous cargo. In the past, I was driving a pickup, now I'm in a 40' diesel pusher. Can anyone give me advice routes to take to avoid this tunnel or just give me advice on better routes. Thank you

RE: Campground near Cape Cod

I like Bayview Campground also. Very well kept, 3 swimming pools, close to the canal. I camp there in a 41' motorhome with no problems. Amusements are only 10 minutes away over the bridge.

RE: Mrytle Beach for bike week 2012

I really like the looks of Willowtreerv but am concerned as to how far it is away from everything. Most of the bikeweek events are now located near surfside and murells inlet. Can anyone tells me how far willowtree is from that area? I also contacted Lakewood and they informed me that they dont have pull thrus and I would have to rent two sites back to back at close to $450 per site per fit my trailer and rv together. If I choose Lakewood, any site recommendations?

Carefree Entry Awning not working

The Carefree power entry awning on my 2006 Monaco Knight is not working. It worked periodically if I tapped the end of the awning, now it doesnt work at all. I can think the motor is junk. I think my Extra ride warranty will cover it minus the $200 deductible but if I can fix it myself for around the same price or less, I'd rather since the RV is already tucked away for the winter and its a hour each way to the dealership. With that said, how do you access the motor on this awning? According to my build sheet, the Carefree model # is 57105ARJZ. Any input would be appreciated.

Mrytle Beach for bike week 2012

I plan on heading down to Mrytle Beach in May of 2012 for bike week and im looking for some advice on campgrounds. This will be the first year I attend and camp, usually I rent a house. With that said, I will be camping in a 41' motorhome and towing a 20' trailer with motorcycles. I pull through would be ideal. I really like Ocean Lakes but last time I visited a friend there, they wouldnt let you bring you motorcycles into the campground. Me and my friends all have custom bikes and like storing them in the trailer at night. Any input would be appreciated.

RE: Dry camping at the BigE in Springfield, MA

Just got back from camping at the big e and then Fryeburg Fair. I definitely would like to go back to the big e but not sure I will ever camp there again. When we pulled in, there was a diesel pusher stuck in the mud in the area they park RV's. I was then informed that another was just pulled out at a cost of $500. The attendants parked us in a row where cars were also parking in between us. It rained all night and all I heard was cars getting stuck, trucks pulling tow behinds and fifthwheels getting stuck and others horsing around spinning doughnuts in the mud. When I woke up and went outside, it looked like a grass island with about 15 campers on it surrounded by a giant mud bog. I asked the staff if I could move to higher ground since it was suppose to rain all day again and they told me to either stay put of leave. They also said that it was so bad that they hoped no other campers showed up. Well, I made it out of there with my rear tires slipping all the way and I headed up to new hampshire a day early.
