RE: towable older vehicles

So true!!! and about 30miles down the road the bearing becomes part of the output shaft Specifically, what manual transmission is that? Tim

RE: towable older vehicles

With the engine off, and the transmission in Neutral, the mainshaft center bearings, the rear output bearing, and the rear output seal will get NO lubrication! Such transmissions require a driveshaft disconnect for four down towing. Mower... In 1956, I put a Olds V8 and LaSalle 3 speed transmission into a Ford '32 5-window coupe and pulled it hundreds of miles to drag strips all over the mid-west. Since 1960, I have built, drag raced, auto-crossed, and tracked over 30 street rods and race cars towing them all over the country. Not only have I never damaged a transmission from towing, but of the HUNDREDS of guys I know, I have never even heard of anybody damaging a manual transmission by towing it. I recently spent a week at the Bonnevile Salt Flats and saw cars towed from all over the USA being run at speeds of 200-300 MPH without transmission damage. Can you give me a credible example of a manual transmission that HAS BEEN damaged from towing as you say? Tim

RE: Not so hot in Texas.

Yea, but whether it is hot or cold and you like the weather or you don't, we STILL don't pay any state income tax!!!!!! Tim

RE: Which latching relay?

Kewel.... I guess that the flip-flop latching levers make it worth the extra $50. Even if electrically held, it will still use no power when not in use. Tim

RE: Which latching relay?

THAT looks just like the 6 dollar starter relay that Ford has used since the 60's. Somebody just added wires and bumped the price $50. I've got one on my 1966 Mustang GT Fastback and another 2-3 in the garage. Tim

RE: 1-1/4" square brush for receiver tube?

I also want 1-1/4" rubber plugs for the front brackets on my dinghy. Here ya go.... http://www.mcmaster.com/#square-plugs/=ewzte5 They come in a pack of 100. Use 2, keep spares, then you have Christmas presents for 48 of your closest friends. Mine are round and I used rubber crutch tips from the local hardware store. http://themorans.org/themorans/timstuff/miata/NCTowing/CIMG1600.JPG You might also try your local (Ace) hardware store. Tim

RE: Where is Winows Explorer in Win 7

For the pictures, you should download Picasa, a free picture organize tool with limited picture editing capabilities: Even if that would work for the pictures (which it really won't) what do I do for the other 100,000+ files??? Tim

RE: Where is Winows Explorer in Win 7

Start, All Programs, Accessories, Windows Explorer. Or, just use Start, Computer. How does that allow me to seach for a file across multiple drives? Tim

Where is Winows Explorer in Win 7

Back in the DOS days, I used X-Tree, then in all previous versions of Windows, there was always a Windows Explorer, or something, to find & sort files. I don't find that in Win 7. I have about 250,000 personal data files (about 150,000 pictures) that I keep on an external drive (clone backed-up of course). Most of the pictures are in folders with the date that the pix was taken. What does Win 7 have that will allow me to search all drives for an individual file OR by extension for an unnamed file? Tim

RE: Seems like rv.net has gone downhill

Interesting, I was reading a post, then hit refresh to see if there were any more... and what I had been reading disappeared. Hmmmm.... Sometimes, something will cause a data reformat and message(s) will go to an additional page. Tim

RE: L.E.D. Tail Lights Switch Over

there is some BLEED over when the running lights are on and the turn signals are used. Please define "bleed over". Diodes DON'T bleed. Sounds like either the diodes are not properly installed or you are not describing the situation accurately. Tim

RE: Internet explorer changed what happened??

RV Tommy, Your laptop probably got an automatic download and install from Microsoft. I have gotten it several times to upgrade from the IE 6 which I like to IE 8 which I don't like. If you had 6 and now have 8 (with all the tabs), there are good instructions for how to reinstall IE 6. Go into your IE browser and click on HELP at the top. Then click on ABOUT. That will tell you what version you now have. Then "Google" for "How to restore or reinstall IE 6" or something like that. Then just follow the bouncing ball.... Tim

RE: Tow bar looseness

Changing out the tow bar pins annually is planned. What is the diameter of the pins and why do you feel that new ones every year is necessary? Tim

RE: Someone else that looks like you, but you have never seen ?

In the 60's, I was told many times that there was a guy who looked just like me. Being a police sergeant, I was able to find him and see and talk to him. I didn't think that he was as good looking as I was (Grin). Regarding the two men below. I met the one on the left in Durango, CO, and 3 weeks later met the man on the right in Branson, MO. I showed him the other man's picture and his jaw dropped. I think that they were brothers, separated at birth. Tim http://www.ntahc.org/op/Separated3.jpg

RE: New water pump puts out too much flow for sink.

Have the resistors near the pump taped together. I'll put some aluminum between them and the carpet. http://www.fototime.com/F1ABE31C4CBF3AC/standard.jpg In seeing your second picture, the tape is not safe, the zip-tie is not safe and definately having the reisitors lay on highly combustable plastic carpet is not safe. I think that on the SAFE Scale 1-10, your installation is about a 1-2. The adhesive on the tape will not hold up under ANY heat and you don't know where the tape will end up and the tape will burn. The zip tie is a fairly low melting point amd fnammable plastic. Take the tape and zip-tie off and either FIRMLY suspend the resistors 3-4 inches in the air or put a patio block under them. Aluminum will NOT help and may even make things worse by spreading the heat around. I'd still change the plumbing to add a valve around the punp. Tim

RE: New water pump puts out too much flow for sink.

Dropping the input voltage should be fine for short pumping cycles. The resistors are ok, but just be ure that that they are well ventilated and WELL away from anything combustable. I think what I would have done was to "T" into the output that is then plumbed through a valve leading back to a "T" at the input. That way, by adjusting the valve to throttle the flow around the pump, the pump always runs at its full rated (and designed) speed, but you bleed off excess output pressure and feed it back to the input to combine with fresh water from the supply tank. Just another way to get there. Tim

What is the best place you've ever eaten at on the road? I try to never eat on the road. It's WAY too low. A table or a booth is much better.

RE: No Pink stuf in water lines

Air won't freeze regardless of HOW cold it gets. Not only that, but even though water will freeze, freezing water will not normally do any damage unless it is constrained = confined to a space with no room for expansion as it freezes. If unconstrained water would cause damage, all of our ice cube trays and ice makers would be split iopen. Emptying the heater, blowing out the lines, and adding pink stuff to the traps should be OK (since they don't constrain the water, the traps should be ok without the pink). We don't get a lot of freezing weather here in Dallas, but that process has worked well for me for 8 years. Tim

Tow Daddy Plug N Tow I purchased one and it is very simple to install and has worked flawlessly. Holy Moley!!!! $167!!! I added $3 worth of Radio Shack diodes to my new Miata PRHT. Also very easy to install and works flawlessly. Tim
