RE: Hot weather camping

We live in 100 + degree temperatures a big part of the year and there will never be any camping for us without a generator to run our 15K A/C unit. Our next generator is going to be 2 of these quiet little Honda's. The noisy generator we have now is being retired so we can camp near civilization for a change without being run out of town for the loud noise. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h40/GShipe/honda_eu2000i_combo-1.jpg

RE: New TT. What Basics Do I Need?

If you forget anything there's usually always a Walmart close by just about any where you go where you can get most everything you'll need. They usually keep the trailer stuff back in the automotive section. Good luck to you.

RE: Flooded our KZ spree TT please help!!

I ordered the remote valve on Monday the 21st and it arrived in the mail today on Thursday the 24th. I like these companies that mail your orders out on the day that you order them. I checked it out to see if the remote worked and everything worked fine. I took the valve to one end of our house and the remote worked it from the other end approx. 65 ft. with no problem. At the trailer the remote will be kept in the bathroom which is about 6 ft. away from the valve at the water spigot outside. So when I go back to Augusta to work next Wednesday I'll try it out on our trailer and see how it works. Someone mentioned that it was not water proof in an earlier post the other day. It's weather proof and made for outdoors it's just not meant to be submersed in water which makes sense. There's no reason for it to be underwater unless there's flood. The auto turn off works also. I checked it out and exactly 3 hours later it turned it's self off. I just clicked the button on the remote again and it opened up. That's a good safety feature for people that may go off and forget to turn their water off. Most people use these things for watering their lawn which would save someone a bundle on their water bill if they were to forget and leave the sprinklers on. Tune in next week for the final results. :)

RE: another stabilizer jack question

Easiest thing to do is to park the trailer on level ground, put the jack under where you want it, jack it up tight to the frame, and screw the screws in with a drill and you are done. Did four on mine in 20 minutes. You will also want to make sure there's room for the jacks to retract from the location you have decided on. You can use "C" clamps to attach them to the frame first before you attach them with bolts that way you can adjust them to where they fit the best before you drill the holes in the frame.

RE: Entry door with glass you can see thru.

You could have some Plexiglas cut to size and fit it to your screen door so you can use it as a storm door. That would give you full view and when you want privacy you just shut the regular door. That way you can keep your trailer door stock.

RE: Do you use cell phones while backing into campsite?

My wife wants to get in the blind spot so I can't see her and wonder why I'm not following her directions. I thought I was the only one with this problem! Nope you're not the only one. I used to have to keep reminding my wife that if you can't see me in the mirrors I can't see you either. Now we just use the cell phones and life is good.

RE: what low temps can you camp in???

We refuse to be cold in our homes or our RV's and 70F is perfect 24/7 and we always prepare our homes and RV's for such usage. I couldn't agree more. That's why I work is to have nice things and to be comfortable. If I wanted to be miserable by my own decision I'd just quit work and go live under a bridge with the other homeless people.:) Some people carry being thrifty to the limits. I used to work with a guy that would brag about his light bill being $10.00 to $12.00 a month. He would sit in his house at night in a sleeping bag and the only thing on would be a small TV and a tiny refrigerator. When he bought groceries he would go to salvage places that had dented cans and outdated stuff for sale. He'd stop at a community center to take a shower for free in the afternoons on his way home from work. The man was single and he had a managers position in the government organization we were working at and making a very good salary. Somebody in his family is living very well now on the money he saved over the years because he died of a heart attack when he was 62 years old. He probably could have lived a long life had it not been for the co-pay on his health insurance which would have cost him a few bucks out of his pocket for a doctors visit. When I die there's not going to be a penny left for anyone to enjoy because I'm going to spend it all on me before I go. :B

RE: Electric stabilizers, elec tongue jack. elec awning,

Also, I am not a fan of tv while camping, again call me old fashion... Man you really are old fashion to not even use a "TV" (Tow Vehicle) while camping. What do you use horses or mules to tow your trailer with? ;) Actually if you were really "old fashion" you'd be camping in a tent instead of a travel trailer that has indoor plumbing and air conditioning.

RE: Flooded our KZ spree TT please help!!

Looks great! I was curious if there were any flow limitations etc. so went looking for more info- i didn't find any info about that, but...according to some customer reviews here, the unit has a design feature that makes it automatically shut off after a few hours.... Plus it's not waterproof, which seems strange to me for something that's made for outdoor use! Yep it shuts the water off automatically after 3 hours which is a good thing in case you leave and forget to turn off the water. All you have to do is hit the remote button again to get the water back on. I didn't read any where that it wasn't weather proof but in my case it'll be installed underneath the bucket that I keep over my water pressure regulator anyway so it'll be out of the rain. I personally wouldn't pay the high price that they're asking for these things but since I found one so cheap on E-bay I figured what the heck I'll give it a try.

RE: Flooded our KZ spree TT please help!!

Well I did find something and it's a Nelson remote water control valve # 5917 and since it was so cheap on E-bay at $17.99, which also included the remote control, I bought it just to see how it works. Who knows it might save me from waking up during the night one night and getting wet feet from a blown water line. :) If it works very well it'll be great for going out for a couple of hours without having to manually turn off the valve anyway. This must have been the last one this company had because the only other ones like this one I saw on E-bay were in the $60.00 range. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h40/GShipe/Remotevalve.jpg http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=400298525437

RE: Flooded our KZ spree TT please help!!

At least this thread has opened some eyes to turn off the water when you leave. We actually have a note stuck up over the door that says "Water OFF?" That will definitely cut down on the chances of getting flooded but on any given night while you sleep your trailer can spring a leak that could fill your trailer plumb up to the top of your mattress before you'd know there was water leaking in it. Maybe if someone were to install a remote valve at the water connection outside the trailer you could turn off the water at night without having to go outside in your skivvies to turn it off and on. Humm I'll have to google remote water valve and see what I come up with.

RE: My turn to do something dumb

What about the next seven years... Trying not to think about that! :E For those that believe in this sort of thing there are several ways of preventing the seven years of bad luck caused by breaking a mirror. One particular African spiritual belief holds that by immersing the broken pieces in a southern flowing stream will exoneration one from the bad luck in a shy fraction of the time. Another one is burning the shattered pieces of the mirror which is also said to remove the burden of seven years of bad luck. Grinding the pieces up into a powder and burying it is also another way. I personally don't believe in that sort of bull but just in case it doesn't take but a few minutes to burn the broken pieces or throw them in a southern flowing stream. ;)

RE: Flooded our KZ spree TT please help!!

Sorry to hear about your disaster. No need dwelling on it now it'll just make you sick every time you think about it unless you end up getting a better trailer after all the wheeling and dealing with the insurance company is finished. Just use this as a lesson learned and do everything you can to prevent it ever happening again in the future. Always turn the water off to the trailer when you leave. Make sure you install a good quality water pressure regulator and then hope for the best because there's always a chance a water line will blow during the night while you sleep but that's just a chance we take or otherwise we'll be running out in the middle of the night to turn the water on in order to go to the john. If you are in a park with full connections you can leave the gray tank valve open all the time which would have saved your trailer in this particular event. Just don't leave the black tank valve open or you're in for another problem but not as bad as the one you have now. Good luck to you.

RE: Outdoor Kitchen Question

Thats one of the reasons (one of several) why i didn't want any slides. I didn't want to worry about uneven terrain and the leveling issue, that I hear is pretty important with slides. Generally speaking the only people that don't want or like slides are people that's never had them. They make the difference between night and day in a trailer. They open up the inside to where you don't feel like you're in a shotgun house and if you ever have to live in a trailer full time there's just no way you'd ever want to be without them. Uneven terrain and leveling is not an issue at all. I can't imagine what that would be because you don't put any stabilizers underneath the slides?

RE: Electric stabilizers, elec tongue jack. elec awning,

Those are 3 things we would never leave home without. The electric jack makes installing the sway control bars on the trailer hitch a breeze. Just use it to jack the rear end of the truck up at the same time it jacks the trailer up and the bars slip right into place. On ours the stabilizers only have 2 buttons that stabilize all 4 corners of the trailer and they're self leveling. When one side touches the ground it stops and waits for the other side to catch up and then proceeds on. Electric awnings are great. If you forget to bring it in and it's late and you're already to go to bed you can just push a button without having to go outside to crank it in. A wind speed detector can be installed on the electric awnings and it'll automatically retract the awning when the wind gets to high whether you are there or not.

RE: Grease or something else?

Anybody remember when the lighting on trailers used the trailer hitch as the ground? I can remember my uncle putting steel wool between the ball and hitch to make a good connection so the tail lights wouldn't flicker when we were on a fishing trip to Destin, FL back in 1962. There were 5 of us in a tiny trailer with no A/C and we had a blast except for the mosquitoes at night. And I mean there were a lot of mosquitoes. That also brings back another memory. A person could buy property in Destin, FL and other areas in the panhandle area back then for $14 bucks an acre. The government was practically giving it away to get people to move into the area. You can't buy a square inch for a hundred bucks today. There was nothing on the beach back then but white sand along with one fishing pier and an RV park at Emerald Beach. If I had spent the $350 that I spent on a motor scooter that summer on property instead I'd be a multimillionaire today. Oh well that's the story of my life! Sorry to highjack the thread but old people do tend to ramble. :)

RE: what low temps can you camp in???

We've been living in our trailer full time during the week the past 2 + years and the coldest temperature we've been in during this time was 9 degrees. It hovered in the teens at night for a couple of weeks also and our trailer stayed nice and warm. We have heated tanks and a covered underbelly on our trailer so we didn't have any frozen pipes or tanks. I insulated the water line coming into the trailer and kept a small stream running in the kitchen sink when the temperature got down in the teens. I don't like sleeping with covers on the bed so I keep our trailer about the same temperature year around and I didn't have to use any blankets during the single digit weather either.

RE: RV Leaking Roof, Rotted floor, restoration chronicles

I've got some tar and if anybody else has some feather pillows I'd be willing to take a road trip to pay the shady seller of this rotten trailer a midnight visit!!! If anyone else has a rail they're welcome to follow along!:M

RE: Help

...We were going between to brands she liked the other one. I liked this one... You must not have been married very long. :B Once you get the hang of it you'll know next time to pick the one that you don't like so she will pick the other one that you actually do like. It won't make any difference which one you pick she's not going to like it so the only thing you can do is to manipulate her choice by putting her in charge of the decision knowing she's going to pick the opposite of what ever you like. Man's got to do what a man's got to do!! ;)
