RE: OK Everybody, Pops Needs Some Help Finding a Coat for Our

Hi Pops,
I have a jacket very similar to the one pictured. It is sort of styled in a "T" shape. If your Ma knits or crochet, she could copy the pattern. I made a sweater for my babies with crochet granny squares. They can be made in different sizes and stitched together in whatever shape you want. Then you could put Velcro on the straps. Crochet/Knit sweaters would stretch and maybe you would not have to worry so much about choking.
Actually, I never considered the choking possibility. Good point though...:S
Dawn
Going to try and find a picture of Chloie in her sweater to post. Will see... :h

RE: Waiting for the vet to call....update 11/1

Well Cat,
I see the good news that Pistol Pete's cancer has not spread to his organs. That was a big plus for Moonbeam that her cancer did not go into her lungs. That gave her a lot more time.
Here's hope and my prayers that the margins are great and that there will be better news to follow. I know how difficult this has to be on you and feel your pain with you.
You mention a vaccine. I was thinking more on the lines of a pill called Palladia. Must be something that I don't know of.
Just don't know what else to say.... :(

RE: Waiting for the vet to call....update 11/1

Hi Cat, :(
Just noticed your post on FB and thought that I would reply here. I am so sorry about Piston Pete's diagnosis. But, as you state, hopefully they got it all and that he won't need any further treatment. I realize that you have been down this terrible road before and know (now from my own experience) it is not one we would choose to travel. But, I also know that Pistol Pete could not be in better hands. You and Jim will do all that you can for your little Pete.
Even though Pete was diagnosed with cutaneous melanoma, maybe the drug Palladia (was given to Moonbeam) would work. Maybe the Oncologist would try it for Pete if thought to be beneficial.
I sure hope that you can "skirt" the disease and Pete will be with you, Jim and the Zoo for a long time to come.
One other note: I have not been around much lately and I apologize to all. I am having trouble with the keyboard to our laptop. It is hard to post, so I just have thoughts that never get to paper. UGH!
Dawn
Sending my love, best wishes and my prayers for you and little Pistol!

RE: MOONBEAM RODE HER FLYING CARPET TO THE RAINBOW BRIDGE :(

Hello everyone,
I was going to try and reply to all of you individually, but I am finding it hard to do so. I will just say thank you one and all. Your heartfelt words are still ringing in my ears. Some have offered condolences, some have offered their thoughts, some have offered advice, some have offered their prayers, and some have even offered a poem. All are very comforting to me.
Thank you so very much,
Dawn
Still gazing at Moonbeam every night. I am sure that Moonbeam's " magic flying carpet" delivered her safely and swiftly to The Rainbow Bridge.

MOONBEAM RODE HER FLYING CARPET TO THE RAINBOW BRIDGE :(

I am sorry, sad news...:(
Just this last Thursday when I took Chloie for a check-up (she is doing fine), the Vet asked about Moonbeam. He asked if she was still eating, walking and happy in general. I replied "yes", so he stated that it was not her time.
But, in the next few days, Moonbeam all but stopped eating, was getting so weak that she could not get up and was not able to go outside for potty breaks. We would pick her up and prop her feet up under her, at times she would walk, but most of the time she would just lay down or fall down. Come Sunday, she would not even drink any water.... We had pretty much made the decision to take her in. By this time, I had been calling our different Vet's for information and their thoughts/procedures.
Kevin gave Moonbeam her usual Sunday bath as her seeping/oozing left ear would make a mess of her front paws and there was no other way to get her clean. He then found another open/oozing lesion, about the size of a quarter, on her neck. Just another HUGE problem for our little girl. These cancerous open wounds are not curable, immensely hard to keep clean and then medicated with the Neo-Predf powder. I have gone through about 5 bottles of this medicated powder.
Once at the pet hospital, we took Moonbeam directly into a room. I had brought along a blue and grey striped rug with fringe, which I called Moonbeam's "Magic Flying Carpet", for her journey. There was a soft blue blanket waiting for us there in the room. I laid the blue and grey striped "magic flying carpet" on top of the blue blanket, placed Moonbeam on the “magic carpet” and waited for the doctor to arrive. The nurse came to get Moonbeam to put a catheter in her leg and Kevin took my hand. We just sat there holding on. The doctor came in, described the process and left us alone with Moonbeam for a few last words and hugs and kisses. I opened Moonbeam's eyes (her left eye was swollen shut from the cancer) and she looked directly at me. (I had read recently that dogs are the only animal that will look you directly in the eye.) I told her that Persalina and Miss Maxine were waiting for her, along with all the other doggies, who had already passed to THE RAINBOW BRIDGE.
Many, many thanks to you all for your love, your heart's, your best wishes and your prayers for our little Moonbeam. As Cat stated "Moonbeam is still shining on, but just from a different place".

Moonbeam’s 11th Birthday Party w/Pictures

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR SWEET LITTLE MOONBEAM! :B
Well, it was a quiet “little” party. No gifts because of Moonbeam’s lack of interest. But, there were treats and a lot of love for little Moonbeam. I started off the festivities Saturday night by making the yogurt, banana and peanut butter treats. I had two very important supervisors (Moonbeam and Chloie Pearl) in the kitchen. Muraco slept right through the process and did not even seem to notice the wonderful smells coming from the kitchen.
I took some pictures of the little supervisors licking the blender head and the spoon of course.
Then, Sunday evening, I set up the Birthday plates, party hats and the treats of course. I did this because, even though Moonbeam and Chloie Pearl have been together for three years, we can not feed them together. There will always be a fight, started mostly by Chloie. So, I set things up (removing the treats till it was time to eat them) and we went about getting dinner for all five of us.
After dinner, I gave Moonbeam her treat and she was surely enjoying the dish. I did get some cute pictures of her enjoyment. But, she did not finish. Her eating pattern has diminished more and more, so I just set the treat aside for this morning.
I did not get pictures of Chloie and Muraco eating their treats because I did not know if Muraco could have all that food (especially the peanut butter) and Chloie did have an upset tummy during the day Sunday, so I held off on her treat too.
So, here are the pictures.

On a side note: Saturday, I was very concerned about Moonbeam. It seems that her cheeks were very swollen (especially the right side where there was no cancer at first). But, after Kevin gave her a bath and rinsed out her mouth, the swelling had decreased a little. Today, it is about the same, but the swelling does concern me greatly, though apparently this condition has not stopped her efforts to eat.
(Sorry for the quality of some pictures. It is hard to take pictures with one hand and feed the doggies with the other hand.)

UPDATE ON MOONBEAM & INTRODUCING NEW COCKER PUPPY!

Hi everyone,
Guess I have some explaining to do! First of all I know that you will be wondering about our little Moonbeam. She is still with us and still is quite strong. Her tumors are still growing and her ear extents outwards because of this. I am still using the Neo-Predf which has been a life saver where her ear open tumors are concerned.
Her Doctor’s have told me that the first signs of her decline would be lack of appetite and weakness. Well, she has reduced her food intake a little, but she is still eating over one cup of the Royal Canin a day. I have been adding water to the kibble and I only give her a few pieces at a time to make it easier to swallow.
She is not quite as fast as she was, but we can tell that she is still enjoying life, following Kevin around, looking for me when Kevin is not at home, asking to go outside and is quite aware of what is going on around her. Her 11th Birthday will be on July 24th and I expect that she will still be here for her special day. You know, she was first diagnosed with terminal cancer on February 10, 2011.
Our new Cocker Spaniel puppy is named (in the Nativie American language) Muraco Misun. Muraco means “White Moon” and Misun means “Little Brother”.
The pronunciation is:
Muraco (Mur-AK-o)
Misun (Mee Soon).
We chose “White Moon” in future remembrance of our little Moonbeam. Our friend, Sylvia, picked Misun for his middle name. She visited him daily while we were staying at her RV Resort on the Sacramento Delta. She has declared herself his Godmother and Muraco has accepted.
Muraco will be 13 weeks old this coming Wednesday. We purchased him from a reputable local Cocker Spaniel breeder/show dog handler who just happens to live 15 miles from where we were camping. We drove to the breeder’s house and brought him back to the Motor Home. We kept him inside because he has not had his third set of shots and he adjusted quite quickly. He was 10 weeks old at that time and I swear that he has doubled in size since then.
After a week of camping without any trouble, the poor little guy had a few very rough moments coming home. First, he got scared because the home, that he had been living in for the last week, started moving. The bumpy road was too much for him, so I moved him to the sofa where he finally fell asleep. Then (almost home) the fan belt broke and we were without all power on highway 580 (a very busy freeway). Lucky for us, Kevin was able to get to the side of the road and we called for a tow. It took up to 5 hours for a tow truck to come and Kevin was livid. In the mean time, we disconnected the Jeep and I took all three dogs home as we were only 7 miles away.
Then, the next morning and evening, Muraco had two very loose stools with what I perceived as blood. So, that night, we were off to the emergency hospital. At my request, they checked for Parvo and “SO thankfully” he was NEGATIVE!. Then the Doctor stated that Muraco was dehydrated. After sub-Q fluids and a bill for $209.00, we went home. Later that week, Muraco went to our regular Vet for his “puppy check”.
Muraco is now enjoying his new “stick” home and is settling into his routine of eating, play time and sleeping. He sleeps through the night in his crate right next to our bed. During the day he has his X-pen set up in our dinette area and he has the kitchen/family rooms for his play time. He and Chloie Pearl are getting along surprisingly well. I am trying to keep him away from Moonbeam so she can still have her quite time. However, she will not stay out of his way and even barked at me after I fenced her out of the room where Muraco was playing. Guess the old gal wanted in on the fun too. She even picked up Muraco’s toy and brought it to “her place”.
So, without further ado…here are the pictures of MUARCO MISUN:
Regards,
Dawn & Kevin

Here you go!
clicky to the article
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So Dawn, how are y'all doing? How is Moonbeam? Is Chloie Pearl feeling good these days??
Thanks Cat,
I don't know how to do a "clicky", but I can always count on someone to help me out! :W
Moonbeam is still doing OK! A little slower at some moments, but still is eating all of her food and following myself and especially Kevin around the house. I can tell that she always wants to stay close because, if she does not see me, she will come looking for me. Right now she is on the sofa, snoring to beat the band.
Chloie is doing very well. She is very itchy and I just asked our Vet today if they do allergy testing. I think that it is time. Poor girl has been a little neglected since I am caring for Moonbeam. So, that has to change. :S
Neither of our girls get's to eat pig ears or even bully sticks. I worry about them swelling in their throat or tummy. But, thought that there are many people that do give them to their doggies.
Thanks for asking about our girls and give the "Zoo" some kisses from me.
RE: UPDATE: Some comforting news about Moonbeam
Thank you everyone from the bottom of our hearts.
Your words and prayers are very comforting to us. Dr. Doug, thank you for your reply! :W I am holding on to the thought that Moonbeam won't choke on me. Every time I think that she is slowing down during the day, she always perks up when Kevin get's home.
This morning she did slow down on her eating, but I have been putting a fiber supplement in her first plate of food. Maybe, this is why. The supplement is meant to help the very loose stools, that she has been having, the last few days. I think that I will consult with Dr. M regarding starting her on Flagyl.
So, thanks so much again,
