RE: Land Between the Lakes Camping in KY

The first time we stayed there Hillmans ferry did not reserve so we reserved Energy lake a few miles from there and moved Sunday. No problem getting a spot on Sunday.Hillmans ferry had a few reserved the last time we were there. Lots to do and see in the area . Museum, outdoor zoo, planetarium, Buffalo, fenced in drive through nature area. Not sure you could do it all in 2 days.

RE: Funny thing checking on airline tickets

Many years ago, there used to be a Delta flight from Greater Cincinnati Airport to Nashville with a stopover in Atlanta, but ticket prices were controlled back then and were based on the miles between the departure airport and the destination airport. Since Atlanta was a major hub, Delta flew there first to pick up other people going to Nashville. But the word was out that if you wanted to fly to Atlanta, you booked a flight to Nashville and simply got off the plane in Atlanta and saved yourself a bunch of money. Jim, A co-worker of mine that lived off 10 mile was sending his son back to Denver for school after vacation. After shopping air fares they found out that catching the flight in Dayton was considerably cheaper than getting on the same plane in Cincinnati so they drove to Dayton. Upon arriving in Dayton they discovered they had left a bag at home. He told his son no problem, they would go home and get his bag and give it to him when the plane landed in Cinjcinnati (The first stop). They got his bag and went to the airport and found out there was no flight . When he asked what happened to it he was told that there were only 2 people in Dayton so they canceled the flight. Where is my son he asked. They put the two in a cab in Dayton and drove them to Cincinnati to catch the plane. You can't make this stuff up. We almost always drive to Columbus to fly because it's that much cheaper.

RE: Cumberland Point Rec. area KY

We were there several years ago. Accidentally pulled into the private place on the way. They were nice and sent us on our way. Most spots are pretty tight and the main road is steep. The hiway to get there dead ends as a boat ramp. If you get on the right side loop you can't make the turn at the bottom of the hill. You can go through the boat lot if it isn't too busy. The left leg has no turn around that i can remember. We had to back into a site to turn around. We backed into a spot on the right loop that had a fence on the downhill side. If you stood at the fence you could drop a twig on your neighbors roof. Our site wasn't too bad. Large enough for my 30 foot trailer and my truck 2 lanes wide and fulley graveled. We only were there for the weekend for a concert in Sommerside so we lived through it. The private park looked like a better bet. pictures of sites http://www.lrn.usace.army.mil/op/wol/rec/cumberland.htm

RE: new (to me) Chevy HHR - hooking up system

Swapped my Saturn out for a new HHR. Lots more room and easy to get in and out because of seat height. I ran my wires underneith because I installed new lights for towing and wired them like a trailer. I read that there is not much room in the tail lights for the diodes. I also bought a switch and mounted it to the fuse panel. Not my picture but the same as mine. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v375/HEMIDAZE/HHR4.jpg height=600 width=600

RE: Blue Ridge Parkway w/ 43' Class A & Toad ?

We drove part of it once in a car on the way to somewhere else. All I can remember is a thousand S curves that all looked the same and slow speed limits. Not a good plan if you destination is elsewhere. We got off as soon as we could. The goal is to get to your destination quickly, not be on the way there.

RE: 2003 jayco granite ridge 3100ss

I have had issues with my manual. Some of it just does not make sense. Pictures not matching directions, steps left out, etc.

RE: Do all RV's pull to the right?

Back in the day we use to set them up to pull slightly to the left to counteract road crown. No complaints. Tell the shop that you are going to another shop and get it fixed. Then you will bring it back to them to show them it is fixed and when they are satisfied they can pay the bill. It worked for me.

RE: Shaking Front End

I gotta go with handbasket on this one. If you tell them to,for instance, put new tires on it, they will. They have no idea of your problem and don't care. They did what you said. If you tell them to fix it, it's a whole new game.

RE: Roof Replacement Cost

Dealers in my area are quoting $100 per running foot for a new roof. This does not include additional materials such as rotted wood.

RE: E450 Cruise Control

There is a safety recall on your unit (and thousands of other Fords) concerning fires as a result of a defective cruise switch. Check with your dealer. If yours hasn't been fixed they will fix it for free.

RE: 2012 Dodge Ram 4x4 Crew

I towed my 27 footer with a load of firewood in my HEMI with a 3.92. No complaints. Figure on 8 or 9 MPG when towing and about 12 or 13 MPG for avg driving. Mine is a 5 speed auto with an OD lockout that holds it in 3rd gear.

RE: Front Hitch

I put one on my Dodge Ram a few years back. Shopped around and found one for $145 with free shipping. Draw Tite, 500 lb load, 9000 lb pull. Not too bad to install. It comes with a special tool to get the bolts inside the frame.

RE: Storage

Hemi, I don't know of any covered storage in the area other than where you probably are now on 125 in a converted, covered lumber yard. There's uncovered storage near the airport. Take Amelia-Olive Branch until it runs into Old 74 and turn right. Its gated with keypad entry, fenced and well lit. I'm currently in Castle Rock (formerly Eastgate storage). They have some 12 x 40s all the way in the back. A couple years ago I looked at a closed down warehouse on that road by Hamlet auto parts . They were condsidering inside RV storage because they had several buildings on the street that were empty. They never called me back. I called the old furrows a couple years ago and was "put on the list". I have plenty of room at my house but don't like snow on the roof (bad experiance with my trailer) Union TWP won't let me build anything for some really stupid reasons. My rent doesn't go up till April 1st so I'm good till next winter.

Storage

MH is in winter storage about 1 mile from my house. Nice 12 x 40 unit. I got a letter yesterday that they sold out the complex and my rate went up 60%. Ouch! Gotta find a new place for next year.

RE: Back-Up Camera

HEMIDAZE, I just purchased an RV and was planning to have the camera you used installed. I gave the dealer the information and got a call back from them - they said it's for a CAR and can't be installed in an RV! Does this make any sense? Sounds like yours works fine. It's a camera and you can install it anywhere there is 12 volts and you install the monitor less than 60 feet from the camera (that's how much wire comes with the ki) . The WEB SITE shows them installed on RVs busses commercial trucks, ambulances. If that is not good enough for them get a new dealer.

RE: KOA Resort Fee

The nick name for KOA... KEEP ON ADDING. Camping 40/night, Water 10.00, Electric 30 amp 15, 50 amp 25, Sewer 10 bucks, "Resort Fee" 5.00, Wi-Fi 10.00, Total 90/night. Unless you have other excuse for them to keep on adding. That's how they do it. Thousand Trails ZONE pass. Use any of 25 parks (or more) for up to 30 days in one year included, 30 amp, water and sewer, 500 50 amp 4.00/night more, over 30 days a few dollars a night more. PM if interested. We just got back from Pigeon Forge. Stayed at a nice hotel. Honeymoon suite, jacuzzi, fireplace, balcony, WIFI, water, sewer, electric, maid service, free breakfast, garage parking for $65/night and 3X the gas mileage to get there and back. It's getting harder and harder to load and gas the motor home.

RE: Dinghy Towing

Some jeep vehicles tow very easily-- I have done the wrangler & cherokees. Working on a chevrolet cruze next. STOP!!! GM is in the process of sending out owners manual updates that say you CAN NOT tow a cruze. Check with your dealer and read THIS
