Did you refill your propane tanks ? The blower on many older units continue to run when propane is depleted.

RE: snowbirds and truck stops

We love over nighting at WalMart while enroute. I've loaded up my GPS with the super WalMart poi's from the POI Factory, it includes phone numbers, we call ahead and get clearance/permission and instructions as to where they prefer us to park. Stock up on any supplies, maybe eat from the deli, works great (for us) when we just need a place to sleep.

Water heater won't light on gas side.

One of our neighbor snow bird friends just pulled in today, so good to see them again. They are sporting a beautiful new Grand Junction 5th wheel. In discussing problems he mentioned the water heater (works fine on elec.) makes the 3 tries to light then goes into reset mode. Sounds like there is ignition and gas present but burns for a short time then quits. I know I should have more info ie make, model, etc...but just thought someone might know of some common cause we could look at..on old furnaces and residential heaters we would be looking at thermo couplers.....any/all suggestions much appreciated

RE: prpane detector going off

My LP detector also detects a low house battery state, I suppose for safety reasons. Mine went off awhile back, in checking real close it was written on the front of the detector that the warning was for a low house battery....sure enough, one of my 2 batteries had failed and when not on house current (we were boondocking) it set off the alarm, Check your detector, almost bet that may be the problem.

RE: Towing-Fifth Wheel

If you enjoy white knuckling, go for it. My first 5th wheel, an older 22' light outfit, spent $600.00 on hitch install, tranny cooler and temp guage, wiring...made one 120 mile trip, never again. Just too much out of control.

RE: Additional stabilizer jacks

chevman, that's what I wanted to hear, your scissor jacks would accomplish the same as my Bal jacks, stop that up and down flex on the springs. I have the Bal unit now, 2 bolts into the frame on each side, will be just like my rear stab jacks. Gonna work on it today. imjustdave, I get bounce mostly from the mid frame flex, this hopefully will stop that...I do get some side to side, see it mostly when I'm outside near the hitch and Mom and dog are moving around inside, can see the hitch move side to side some. This setup might help there a little too. We stay in our 5th wheel about 9 months out of the year so every little thing for creature comfort helps....

Additional stabilizer jacks

Has anyone added an additional set of Bal type stab jacks just in front of the axles on a 5th wheel ? I get a lot of frame flex bounce mid frame on my 35' 5th wheel. The frame flex's and, being mounted on tires and springs, get a lot of movement. I think the flex is to be expected in a frame of that length, wondering if anyone has tried this....

RE: electric fireplace

They do a great job of evening out the temprature swings of the furnace, keep the living area more comfortable , furnace doesn't cycle near as often on chilly nights. And, they look so real....

RE: Right Turn Signal Not Working

I learned (the hard way) truck lights and light circuits for the trailer are on seperate circuits (fuses), signal and brake lights on truck can work normal but trailer light signal fuse may be blown. (Ford F-250)

RE: Is it reasonable for me to buy a small generator?

I run my concentrator on a Honda 2000, I haven't checked it for power requirements, never gave it a thought....but I set my Honda on "Eco Mode" and I don't think it even speeds up when I turn the concetrator on, (I require oxy at night only). I haven't been above 6500 ft when we parked but there have been no problems. My 2000 runs my concetrator about 8 hours and still will make a pot of coffee in the am before I go out and shut it off. We snow bird and travel about 3 weeks each way, we boon dock and Walmart for just overniters, I have the Honda setting in the box of the TV under the chin of my fifth wheel, I've rigged a plug in the front of the 5th wheel for a short power cord. Plug it in when we park, crank it up watch TV, refuel before bed. Works out great and doesn't tie me to campgrounds for the overnite stops.

2002 F-350 auto transmission

I need to upsize from a 3/4 to a 1 ton TV. I currently have a 99 Ford F-250 7.3 PSD with the 6 speed manual transmission. I've located a low mileage 2002 F-350 7.3 PSD with AUTO transmission. Has this been a reliable transmission ? I've never trusted auto transmissions preferring the manual but this truck is in such good shape, 35000 miles, I'm really considering it....any/all input appreciated.

RE: Fifth Wheel Fire this morning

We were checking into a COE campground last month (Saylorville Lake in Iowa)on our way home from New Mexico, noted the host had her hand wrapped. In answer to my question she told me her and her husband were both burned when thier 5th wheel burned. She was awakened when her c-pap machine started pumping smoke and she started coughing, 4:00 in the morning. She got out with only her night clothes, her husband got his pants on, luckily had keys in the pockets and he was able to move his tv and car. They lost everything else. She wore borrowed clothing into WalMart the next day to buy footwear. Added note, I've never been a big fan of the Red Cross due to a couple bad experiences in the fifties when I was in the service, however, may have to change my thinking....local county sheriff called the Red Cross at 4:00am, a representative came to the campgroung at 4:00 in the morning, got them into a motel room (4 nights) and gave them a $700.00 credit card for necessities. No expectation of repayment. Other hosts and friends supplied them with clothing and housing. Tragic but still a feel good happening.
