RE: Progressive Roadside Assistance

I'm here at Newmar and one of he folks that came in today mentioned that Progressive had directed them to a repair facility that couldn't get the job done and after three unsuccessful attempts at repair sent them here to the Newmar factory for permanent repairs. It appears that Progressive will attempt he less expensive route but if necessary will get the job done.

RE: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Factory

They both get bully sticks and believe it or not oats and molasses based horse biscuits and love them both. They get the biscuits on a regular basis and the bully sticks when we have to leave them alone for a few hours (5-6). They are non-destructive dogs and when they're together they don't suffer from separation anxiety. However, if Clifford is separated from Jewel, he cries like a baby. He whines and eventually starts moaning and howling. Jewel could care less because she was here first and has never known abuse or isolation. As I mentioned before Cliffords story is for another post.

RE: Follow-up on new Koni FSDs

As a follow on to this topic I plan on having the coach re-weighed. It feels like I'll have to drop about 5-10 lbs of pressure on the front tires. I'm having to do some minor corrections more frequently than I have in the past.

RE: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Factory

What's really funny is that Delilah will talk to me when it's time for breakfast or dinner. She'll also tattle on Clifford when he's taken a toy or bone away from her, he's a real hoarder. He hoards because of the isolation and abuse he had before we got him, but he's getting better. Clifford is just like a seven or eight year old boy that just wants to be into everything. He hasn't figured out how to communicate with us yet, but we're all working on it but that's for another post. BTW - Delilahs' call name is Jewel as in Jewel of Delilah. I'll be changing my signature to reflect that.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Factory

Last week we had to make a trip to the Newmar factory for some repair work on our coach. We left AZ Tuesday morning and the trip was uneventful until we were approaching Shamrock TX. About ten miles out of Shamrock our Bouvier rescue started acting crazy. He was very anxious and eventually this 80lb dog jumped up on the dash of the coach and it seemed like he was trying to climb up the windshield. He actually had his head up behind the cabinetry above the dash. We got him off the dash and pulled over in Shamrock. We let the dogs out and neither one of them showed any anxiety. We got back in the coach and when I started the engine, it stalled and there was a huge cloud of smoke. The engine AC compressor had seized and broke the serpentine belt. It appears to me that Clifford the Big Brindle Bouvier had detected the pending failure of the compressor and just didn't know how to deal with it but in his own way was trying to let us know there was a problem .

Progressive Roadside Assistance

While enroute to the Newmar factory last week the AC compressor on the engine seized. We had just pulled over in Shamrock TX to let the dogs out and when I started the engine there was a huge cloud of smoke and the engine stalled. I pulled the dog house off and found that the compressor was seized and the serpentine belt was toast. Called Progressive and they had the correct tow truck there in less than an hour. The driver pulled the drive shaft and the mud flap and has us at a Workhorse shop within two hours. The drive also replac the drive shaft and mudflap before he departed. The repair facility replaced the compressor and belt and had us on the road in six hours. My hat is off to Progressive Roadside Assistance, T & H Towing in Groom TX, and S & L Automotive and Truck Repair in Amarillo TX. All three did outstanding service.

RE: Follow-up on new Koni FSDs

Could be a chassis issue mine is a Workhorse, maybe they don't work as well on the Ford chassis.

Follow-up on new Koni FSDs

Brief history of our MH. Bought it used in 2005 and immediately had to replace the shocks due to porpoising. Under warranty Workhorse replaced the Bilstiens with Monroe Gas Magnums. 45K miles later the Monroes are worn out and had them replaced with Koni FSDs (lifetime warranty) and replaced the 8 year old XRVs with new XRVs. We just finished traveling from Queen Creek AZ to Nappannee IN and the change in the ride was well worth the cost of the Koni's. Less shaking and rattles. The coach handles better on curves and we just don't feel all of the bumps and expansion joints in the concrete hiways. Our trip from AZ was 60 to 36 to 117 to I40 to 44 to I70 from St Louis to Indy. Rant On - Good to great roads all the way to the Indiana border and then we thought we had been transported to Interstate 10 in Los Angeles. I70 in Indiana is as bad as anything in CA. Rant - Off.

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Had the AC Compressor seize on the engine and had a new one installed at S & L Automotive and Truck Repair in Amarillo. Great people to do business with and they're a Workhorse service center.

RE: Motorhome damaged in wreck. Need advice.

What hasn'e been mentioned is that you should have filed your own police report so that you have a copy from your perspective. It may be too late to do it now, but that's what I've done in the past and I use this to report to my ins co. If you go to the PD they should be able to give you a copy. Whatever you do, you need to contact your ins co and get the ball rolling.

RE: Can you share actual tires prices?

Check with Costco. They cannot mount that size, however they may be able to order them for you and you can have another dealer mount and balance them. That's what I did with my last set and I saved about $700.00.

RE: Tiffin Entry Steps Safety issue the reason?

That sounds like a real convoluted system and safety issue. My older Winnebago and my current Newmar have a power switch for the steps that will allow me the option of having the steps open or stay closed when the door is opened. Are you sure there isn't something similar on your coach. Having said that both of my coaches were/are gassers.

RE: Koni FSD's

I had FSDs installed last month. Things I noticed; I can feel the road a little bit more through the steering wheel than I could with the Monroe Gas Magnums, I have far less lean in the corners than with the Monroes, Shake, rattle and roll are now less that with the Monroes. I can give you more feedback in three weeks when I take it to the factory for some work. KONI FSD shocks are not adjustable. According to the sales rep at Spectrac in Mesa the GSDs are supposed to eliminate some of problems they had with the adjustable shocks. I had the same shocks installed as you did. I have a W22 chassis and fully loaded with full water, gas and propane I weigh 21,100 with even distribution on all wheels. I run 85-90 lbs in the tire and my tis lasted 8 years and 45K miles. If you have any questions send me a PM.

RE: top, side and back end marker lamps

For starters you need to tell us which gpasser you have. I have a 2004 Mountain Aire and I suspect that the wiring is the same on all of the gassers from that time frame. On the top off the dash in front of the driver seat you should have a panel that is approximately 13" x 19". Get a knife or screwdriver and pop the the panel off. If you flip it over you should see a diagram of the fuses and relays for the coach. If yours is wired the same as mine, you'll need to look at the fuses and relays for the Clearance lightts. On my coach it's F33, F34 and relays K2 and K3. Please let us know how you make out.

RE: Headlamp Assembly 2003 Pace Arrow

The RV manufacturers do not make headlights or taillights. They use existing ones from the automobile sector. If you look on the face of the Of the headlight you should be able to detect a model or part number. Google the number and you'll be able to determine who made it. My Newmar uses Lincoln headlight assemblies. Once you know the make and model, you can get a new one from a parts store or off the internet. Good luck

RE: Pets

FWIW - We always travel with current shot records plus a notice/cert of health from the vet. I made the mistake of offering the shot records and cert to a US Cutoms agent and wasted 10 minutes while he asked his supervisor what he should do about them. Moral of the story is "Don't offer medical info on the pets unless it's specifically asked for".

RE: Tire Prices

BTW - The manufacture date on my tires is 4511. I ordered the tires in the 48th week. Costco doesn't stock the 22.5 tires but will order them. When they order them, they will not guaranty the date and they require full payment at the time of order.

RE: Tire Prices

It may be worth the effort to find a Costco and join. I just purchased 6 Michelin 235/80 22.5 for $2427.29. I had them installed, and balanced at another tire dealer for $356.00. You have Costco in Missoula and Kalispell, less than 65 miles from you. You really need to look at the alternative that Costco offers.

RE: Paper or Plastic?

Paper for lunch and quick meals and Sicillian porcelain for steak and most dinners.
