RE: Dawson City - George Black ferry is in the Yukon River!

We survived the TOW - and it wasn't really as bad as I expected! One detour due to huge HUGE snowdrift over highway. Detour turned out to be no worse than parts of the TOW, but was a little scarey not knowing how long it would be or where we would end up. It was easy to see that a couple other places had just been cleared of big drifts - but the big snow blower machines were there ready to clear the mess. I didn't care much for the "goat path" with the 1000' drop-offs, but otherwise it was a nice drive.

RE: GAH Spring Adventure - anyone else going?

Several of us in Tok right now! We've missed the bad snows - nothing more than flurries that we've gone through along the way. We did the TOW today - quite an adventure! I'll be checking out your blog soon cakelady - I have one there too, but not sure it's worth sharing yet.

We've made it from the Winnebago factory to Whitehorse. Hoping to do the TOW highway Tuesday.

We're headed that way - I wondered why they said the customs office wouldn't be open until Tuesday, and now I know! Thanks Sue!

RE: Arrrrrrrrrrrrg! Count down is over!

I started a list 2 months ago (despite hubby saying over and over "they DO have stores along the way")- and as of this morning everything is checked. 30 minutes from now we head out and I wish each of you a safe journey with lots of sunshine along the way!

RE: GAH Spring Adventure - anyone else going?

When you rent the RV, you state how many days you want it, and that's the only schedule we have to adhere to - being in Anchorage on turn-in date. This is only done once a year when GAH orders their new Winnebagos. People start booking more than a year ahead, so obviously it's a popular way to go. Stewart and Hyder are on my route this year. :)

RE: GAH Spring Adventure - anyone else going?

I beat you Cheryl! I'm PACKED!! (NOW what do I do for the next 5 days before we head to MN? - NO! Please don't tell me I need to spend it cleaning the house! YUCK!)
I saw a post on FB from explorenorth (Murray) that they were having a blizzard in Whitehorse, but he posted later that it melted as it hit the ground, so hopefully that's the story for Dawson City.
Just read that there will be major construction on Seward Highway for the next 2 years - warning to any heading that direction.

RE: GAH Spring Adventure - anyone else going?

Gail, we didn't make plans in advance, so you should have no problem touring the factory if they still offer that. It was quite educational - except we couldn't forget all their talk about quality control when our tv fell off the wall on the 3rd day out! LOL!
aviator - I could give you figures from 2 years ago but it sure won't apply much now considering the rise in fuel prices! It's about 65 hours driving from Forest City to Tok, AK - so you could make it in 7 days without much trouble, but I'll allow at least 10 since there's so much to see along the way. The expense to fly home wasn't that bad considering the RV cost was about twice that for the 18 days we spent there (It will be 23 days this year.) We spent $124 on campgrounds - that's a mix of private and public campgrounds along with a little boondocking. Not counting our transportation to Iowa, our total trip cost (including food and 830 for extra tours)was $6056.

RE: GAH Spring Adventure - anyone else going?

For those on there first GAH trip, you might like to know that Winnebago serves us a very nice continental breakfast on the morning of our orientation.
Has anyone besides me started packing? :)
