RE: F-250 Truck with 5.4L gas engine

Does anyone tow with this set up and if so what do you tow?Just purchased a very nice low mile truck with this set up.It was such a good deal I couldn't pass up.The truck is 12 yrs old with 63K miles on it and looks as if its only 2 yrs old.The person I bought it from ordered it new with the towing package, but didn't get a hitch with it.He never towed anything with it,it still has the rubber gromett in the bumper too.Its a single cab, long bed,4x4.Thanks for any replies
I hope you're not replacing an '06 5.9 Cummins 2500 with a 5.4 F-250???????? Am I understanding you??? Sounds like a bad move if that's the case IMHO.
That said, had a 5.4 L in an '03 Expedition we owned, IMHO the 5.4 would be under-powered in a 3/4 ton truck like the F250. I'm sure there are some that tow with that set up, but to take advantage of that added payload....I'd want more engine than the 5.4. If heavy towing/hauling is not the intention for the truck, it may be a great deal by what you've explained. If you want a real work horse, I think you'll be disappointed.

RE: Chevy Equinox 2012 Caution

Glad it will work out for you Pat. Being new to towing and tow vehicles can be quite overwhelming, goodness knows I made a few mistakes in the past too. One thing I will echo, NEVER trust an RV/AUTO sales rep. to look after your interest when it comes to towing. I'm sure there are some out there that know enough and/or care enough to look after you, but my experience says most don't. And most car makers love to advertise the max tow rating, the fine print will often explain something like "when properly equipped" or "with factory tow group". Look at the new F-150....everywhere you look they sell "11300 lbs. towing"....yeah right, when equipped with the EcoBoost, 3.73, max tow and max payload which nearly NONE of the trucks on the average lot will have, it's a speacial order. Anyways sorry for my rant, I feel bad for you but happy to hear you'll take the hit and continue to camp. Happy trails.

RE: HPFP ??

My advice: If you don't like what you see on a thread stop clicking on it!But I just can't help myself. Now can we stop talking about the Ridge and get back to the HPFP discussion, I've only read 84 pages of it this week, I'm feeling some wtihdrawl :B.

RE: HPFP ??

Actually dspencer.........it's kinda funny when you think about it.
This morning "Team Mod" closed a thread about the Ridgeline after only 2 pages because a few members were beating up on it a bit, even though still on topic.
Ridge Thread
But because this post is about the Ford HPFP, I'll bet it runs up into 50 pages like all the other HPFP threads regardless of how far it strays of course.
No, it wasn't on topic. It was a thread about tow vehicles in the TOWING forum... I suppose they could've just moved it but all it was, was a bash-fest that was quickly circling the drain anyway...
As opposed to this mess which continues on 9 pages deep.

RE: Picture this one in your head

The Tundra and Titan are (IMHO) worthy to stand with ANY of the Detroit three 1/2-tons.
That said, contrary to all the Kool-aid drank on the Ridge forums, the Ridge is a joke (for towing). It can't even accomodate a WDH??? The box is about the size of a shoe box and most importantly, it's as ugly as a can of smashed apples. The sales numbers show a steady decline since 2005 and no surprise, Honda is discontinuing the Ridge in the near future.

RE: Upgrade Tundra to F150 HD?

For a 6500 lb. trailer (max.), save your money and keep the Tundra.
Regardless of what you see other owners doing, MOST 1/2 tons don't have the payload to handle much more than the tongue weight of an average 7000 lb. TT plus passengers and cargo.
If you see a larger trailer in your future, a well equipped EB might be a good move, if not, keep the Tundra and save your $$$$.

I wish you guys would stop clogging up these posts with your chest pounding so we could keep up with the original post/issue without having to wade through all the BS.
That would be nice.

RE: HENSLEY IS HERE!!!!

Hensley Arrow is the absolute best there is... it's even better if you start with everything else in check.
As a past Hensley owner, I fully agree with this statement.
@ fla-gypsy, no reluctance to share cost $$$$ here. New shipped to me, approx. $3000 USD.

RE: HENSLEY IS HERE!!!!

Just get ready for all those people, who have never owned or towed with one, to tell you how crazy you are, how the hitch is overpriced marketing hype and that their harbor freight friction arm they've used for 20 years is every bit as good........BLAH BLAH BLAH. Those of us that have towed and do tow with one....KNOW the difference.

RE: Goodbye to our Crossroads Cruiser 32BH!!

Welp, there is still something about being permanent on YOUR property in YOUR cottage/cabin. If $$$$$ were not an issue, DW and I would consider a little slice of our own heaven on a lake. Congrats and don't look back.

Congrats. If you do not have to move anything on the A-frame e.g. break-away, batts., etc... install should be a snap. After your first tow I expect you'll be back here ALL smiles :B.

RE: Would you tow with this veichle?

I think you'll be fine with a PUP. If you start looking at full height hard-sides, you'll not be happy with the little Liberty for long.

RE: How can I tell if I am exceeding my TV capacity?

Agree, stop guessing or listening to others who guess. Next time you're loaded up, take it to a scale and get some hard numbers. If you are under your GVWR and axle ratings for both the trailer and trucks, that's a good start.

RE: KZ-Spree Issues

Consumers want everything to be ultra light weight so they can tow it with their gas-sipping compact SUVs, and they like affordable, and then are surprised to see how cheaply and minimalistic these things are made. Light & cheap will not equate to solidly built with quality materials and parts.
That said, sorry to hear of your troubles. I've had good luck with both of my Sprees. Glad to hear KZ and your dealer are looking after you though.

RE: Shopping for new tow vehicle -- 6000 lb capacity

Have to agree with Road Ruler on this one. Do you need a new TV or want a new TV? If you came on with that trailer asking for a suitable SUV as a TV, I would have suggested a Pathfinder.
That said, I still don't see a full size SUV as necessary for your trailer. If you must........and it were me spending your money ;), I'd look Sequoia, Expedition, Armada. If Ford would offer the Expy with the 3.5 EB in the future, that might become a hot ticket.
