RE: Austin TX to Kerrville TX

What if we took I-44 out of Oklahoma City down to Wichita Falls, then continued on Hwy 281 until we can go west on Hwy 290 to Fredericksburg, then down to Kerrville on 16? I've nicknamed I35 between Dallas/Ft Worth and San Antonio "The corridor of hell". If you do decide to go through DFW take I35W and go through Ft Worth. We just returned from a vacation to Kerrville and tried out Hwy 281 for the first time. It is a nice drive and A LOT LESS HECTIC! If you take 290 from Johnson City to Fredericksburg be sure to check out Wildseed Farms a few miles east of Fredericksburg. http://www.wildseedfarms.com/ It is a really nice nursery with fields of flowers grown for their seed. From Fredericksburg its a easy drive to Kerrvile on Hwy 16. All of the roads were excellent.

RE: Black Water Valve Problem

Thanks for the replies. I wish it was as simple as threading it back in but unfortunately the rod isn't threaded on the end. Like I said in the first post it has a collar machined into the end. The last four inches or so of the rod is machined slightly smaller in diameter and the rod actually extends down into the valve passing through a seal in the end of it. The rod snaps into place somehow inside the valve and apparently what ever it snaps into must have broke. I think BobJoh's suggestion about drilling a hole might work. I was actually thinking about hacksawing the end of the valve off where I could see down inside the valve and try to hook on to the slide. I have visions of the movie "RV" in my mind and Robin Williams adventures dumping the holding tank. I guess I'll just put on the rubber gloves and give it a go tomorrow.

Black Water Valve Problem

A couple months ago we purchased a 2003 Jayco Kiwi 18F hybrid. The first time out I pulled the rod out of the black water valve when I tried to dump it. I managed to push it back in and it seemed to lock into place OK. The second time out it worked fine. This weekend it pulled out again and this time I can't get it to catch when I push it back in. My black water tank is about half full and I can't figure out how to get the valve open to dump it. Replacing the valve shouldn't be too much of a job IF I can empty the tank first. I don't know if all black water valves are made like ours but we have a t handle attached to a rod about three feet long that fits down into the top of the valve. There is a collar machined onto the end of the rod which I assume snaps into something down inside the valve. Has anyone had this problem and if so how did you fix it. I was planning to winterized the camper this week and put into storage but I need to empty the tank first. HELP!:?

RE: camper covers in northern states

I can't comment on covers but I did try covering ours with a blue plastic tarp several winters ago. In the spring I had several wear spots in the finish of our camper from the wind blowing the tarp around. We now store ours indoors at the county fair grounds. They charge $100.00 to store our pop up for the winter.
