RE: refrigerator doesn't work need help

That is a good sign. Without a heat source one can not test the cooling unit.
Everytime I am in the middle of a project I wonder what it would be like for the next guy to figure out where I was at on the project when I died.

RE: Ford vs Chevy

When you are looking at two gas hogs like those options fuel usage difference is not a factor to use in a buying decision.
You are looking at the cost of $2-$3 per mile if you drive a lot or higher cost per mile if it stays parked most of the time.
If you heart is set on going with a new unit do not figure the true ownership cost per mile. :B

RE: refrigerator doesn't work need help

Hot wiring test will let you know if the cooling unit is functional since it by-passes all the electronics and need for 12v.
If properly done very bottom coils will heat up UNLESS the heating element is defective. It it works and your lower box is not BELOW freezing after being shut for 48 hours running 24/7 then you have some hardware and/or install defects.

RE: Fluid leaking down inside front tire

Thanks guys, I hope I caught it early enough that it wont be a huge expense. Seems kind of premature to be having this issue already? MH only has around 8k on it.
However it does sit alot, and I know that's not real good either.
I'm going to call my dealership asap and try to get it in. We're hoping to go camping next weekend. Not very far from home, but I want to get this repaired before we do anything. I'll keep you all posted on how it turns out.
Vic
It could have been over filled new but most likely it is just a defective seal. Locally PTL has fleets of over the road trucks and I have been told by some there it is after 25K+ miles that the factory defects are worked out.
Fluid leaks is a biggy with most any big machine. It is my guess MH builders do little to no chassis inspection before they build the house and ship it. This is not the case if the chassis is used for a OTR truck.

RE: Input from those with kids...

Oh yeah, with kids, get the bunkhouse. Setting up sleeping arangements everyday sucks.
Tend to agree with this after we did a 31 day road trip.
Because the bed hurt my back I started sleeping in the driver's seat and set the CPAP on the dog house plugged into the 12 volt socket. Actually that worked out well for my arthritis. 14 yo son used the sofa and the 14 yo daughter got my bed.
For the three of us this worked out well and left the kitchen area intact. The guys up front and daughter in the back worked well since she seemed to need more hours of sleep.
While ours is a MH my comment is sleeping with kids onboard. Bunkhouse layout makes sense with kids.

RE: If I wanted a project, I'd be tempted

Air bags, frig and AC unit replacement should be the norm at that age but a one time expense. $10K if tires are needed might cover the big stuff and another $5K for the small stuff might it ready for OTR use or $20K total.
IF for long term use I would guess $25K or less would be an OK deal assuming a good motor/transmission.

RE: The best compressor to buy to air the tires to 100PSI ?

My advice, don't use your on board RV air system, don't get a 12 V compressor and don't get a 120V compressor with less than 150#. You will be disappointed. They are all inadequate for pressures over 100#. Been there done that.

We got the $99 Sears but seen the same compressor (Cable Porter??) at Lowes for the same price.

RE: AC evaperator

evaporator core $120-150
heater core $60-90
blend door upgrade, $150 ???
labor 7-10 hours $800-900
buy cheep china parts you will spend the labor money again in just a few years..
don't use a/c sealants.. it may plug the control orifice or temp control valve depending on system type.. if you ever need to have system serviced again. all a/c components/hoses will need flushed/replaced.. = lots of $$$$ or you may not be able to get the system worked on.. many shops will stop work as soon as they see signs of sealant in the system.
will cap the system and return the vehicle as is or call to get approval to replace the whole system...

RE: Fuel Price Gouging

Lccally today Shell 87 is $3.39 and 93 V-power is $3.71 and diesel $3.79 yet a few blocks over BP is $.30 more for gas and $.40 more for diesel.
There is always a large spread but they still have business.

RE: AC evaperator

Have a 01 dodge cummins that i have been weening the AC evaperator for 3 years. Ever shop wants a 1000.00 dollars for the job. 5 or 6 hours labor but why so much money? The part cost 50 bucks. I know its a big job but thats a little step.
Any input would help. I tried several auto shops. All the same price range.
Ron
Price sounds within the normal range for a heater core.
It is not a hard job but a lot of things to disconnect.

RE: Freezer works, Fridge dosen't!!!

big whitey that was a good move because an absorption refrigerator that is sick or dying or incorrectly installed is junk when the hot weather arrives.
While I do not want a compressor refrigerator in our case we really enjoyed having the remanufactured Amish cooling unit in our old box/electronics. We did the 8000 mile cross country and it worked find for the 31 day trip when on propane or electric.
Frig data from fan/no fan and propane vs electric test results.

RE: Fuel Issues & Prices - Post 'Em Here!

After two recent trips, I am down to half a tank. What I have cost $3.94 and what I can buy is $3.47. I wonder if I should fill up or wait until it gets lower. Usually if I wait, it goes way up. I guess the "cheap" gas and the expensive gas will mix together OK in the tank.
I personally expect if filling hundreds of gallons of storage tanks then barren Mid East war it will be cheaper mid July. For a fill of 30-60 gallons I think I would do it now just to be fueled for a quick run or emergency.

Back in the winter I picked up the 45 watt HF kit for $149 to use in a class project this summer. Guess it will cost more when they sell the current inventory.

Yeterday Shell 87 was 3.42 and 93 shell 3.74 locally. Diesel was $3.80 last weekend when we bought 30 gallons for the tractor and the backhoe.
