RE: Why do I feel like appoligizing....??

I never feel the need or urge to apologize for the life style we live or the material things we have. I started with nothing except a good work ethic, work long hours, saved my money, purchased things when I had saved enough money to pay cash, did without, etc, things that everyone else could do as well. It all comes down to choices.

RE: Best tire pressure monitoring system

I agree-- the responses will not be able to give you a reasonable evaluation-- just a "the one I chose is best".
Bottom line-- look through the various threads on TPMS and GET ONE.
BTW, I chose PressurePro. American made and from a company that has been in business a long time. NOT a marketing company with overseas product.
Brett- Have you sent in any of your sensors for battery replacement yet? They say to do it every 4-6 years and mine have been in use for 6 years even though I remove them during non-use which amounts to approximately 3-5 months every year. Don't want to pay for replacements unnecessarily but don't want to be without them during a trip.
Wagonmaster2
I am into my 7th year for the original batteries and my sensors never get removed from the coach or truck. Mine are starting to weaken because in cold weather I notice an occasional drop off of a sensor for a period of time.

RE: Cell Phone Canadians wintering in the US

A question or two for you Canadians using Verizon phones in Canada. Which Canadian carrier does Verizon twin with up here to provide the cell service (rogers or Bell?) and can you get a data plan as well?
Telus or at least it was the last time I checked.

RE: Cell Phone Canadians wintering in the US

Likely not what you want but we use Verizon (North America plan) as our only phone in Canada and the USA. $59/month with no extras like connection fee, 911 fee, GST etc for 450 anytime minutes and 1000 off peak (After 9 and all weekend) minutes. We have used it for 3 years now and get coverage everywhere we have been. (31 states, 5 provinces) If you get a 2 year contract the phone is free too. Verizon to Verizon is not counted against your 1450 minutes in the USA. They have other plans with unlimited minutes in the USA etc. This is just what we have and it works great for us. We previously had Rogers North America plan but it was $120 month and they always came up with extra fees for less air time.
X 2 for us as well.

RE: Slow market or what?

You have to forget about what you think it may be worth. When I sold my MH last year I decided that I did not need two sitting in my yard like so many others, I priced it so that it would sell. The second looker took it in less than a week. Sure to me it was worth a lot more, but I had a new to me unit and did not need the old one and just did not want to get into a situation where you have it for a year and then finally you get the price down where it should have been to start with. Sure the buyer got a real good deal but so did I on the unit I bought. You don't buy RV's to make money.

RE: Check Tire Pressure Before Every Trip

For you guys with the TPMS. How many times have you actually had a tire go down that the TPMS detected, that you would not have, by checking pressure on a regular basis ?
1 time for me but that was enough to more than pay for my TPMS.

RE: Canadian currency exchange

You will probably find that most places in Canada will except your US cash at most stores. We up here do not have such an aversion to US cash as stores in the US have for Canadian cash.

RE: Water Pump Quit, WHY?

Explain not working...not working as in dead? not pumping water? will not turn off?
X2; confirm it is not running, if it is running and just no water, check the filter on the inlet of the pump, it may look clean but it just does not take much for it to restrict the suction. The screen could just have an almost invisible film on it which is enough, happened to me.

RE: importing 2012 Monaco Diplomat into Canada

I notice that you are from Alberta so your best option is to take it across one of the AB/Montana crossings because if you take it across a BC border they will charge you the HST on the cost of the Import Fee instead of just the GST. I know the difference is only a few dollars but it just pissed me off that the Feds would charge me an Albertan the HST instead of only GST. To make it clear, this is only on the Feds permit fee and not on the purchase price of the unit which as an Albertan you pay the 5% GST.

RE: importing 2012 Monaco Diplomat into Canada

Just go to the Canadian Government web site and follow the instructions. Very easy to do as long as you have all the papers in legal order and the unit is on the approved list as per their published list. The cost is $214.00 unless it has gone up in the last 10 months plus the GST on the purchase price, plus the tire tax and the $100.00 tax on the air conditioner (another one of those temporary taxes from the early 70's during the first oil crisis).

RE: Flare Guns Legal In Canada?

This is Canada not the US Your laws aren't allowed up here.
Yes you can have a Flare Gun as long as it is part of your boating package. No you cannot carry a "concealed", for whatever reason, I don't know why you would.
If you are that concerned about your safety best you stay in the US.
BTC
A Flare gun does not have to be part of a boating package. They can be used to signal for help in many different situations and I certainly would not want to have to carry my boat or boat package with me on a hike or when I am out exploring the back country.

RE: Flare Guns Legal In Canada?

A "Very" pistol or as more commonly called in recent times a Flare pistol is legal in Canada. Before I purchased mine I checked with Canadian Customs in person and they showed me on their computer the section that related to the Very Pistol. As far as using one for personal protection you would have to be within about 4 feet to even hit someone in the chest. The barrel on mine is only about 1 inch longer than the shell but I know one thing I would never want to be hit by one. I have crossed the border many times and have even had to endure the "full inspection" and flare pistol was not even questioned. I never carry mine loaded but the shells are keep right with it in the passenger seat pouch.

RE: Portable water bladders

Do these ever need to be sanitized like your built-in water tank does?
Other than using a teaspoon of bleach when I fill the bladder, I have never done anything else.

I also carry a moving blanket with me to lay the bladder on it to save it from rubbing against any sharp objects because it does jiggle when travelling.

RE: I15 Canada to California in January?

Diesel is very easy to get all along I5...
Jan. you risk snow at the passes and even road closures - Grants Pass and through the Siskisyous in S. Oregon and into N. Calif....You can even has some ice and snow through the low lands at times.
Oregon requires that you carry chains at all times.
Me thinks you are talking about another interstate. I15 goes through Montana, Idaho, Utah, Nevada, does not come close to Washington, Oregon or California.
Travel on I15 in winter changes from day to day. You have to remember that most of I15 after Butte MT is anywhere from 4000 feet to 6500 feet in elevation with some passes even higher.

RE: norcold failures vs. slideouts

I think the only difference is the amount of time that the fans will run. We did a test this winter on a 1200 that was in a slide. This unit was parked with the unit on the shady side. By removing the covers we reduced the amount of time that the fans would run by about 50%. A huge difference. By removing the covers the amount of air moving up through the unit by normal convection was a real eye opener. Therefor logically I would assume that with the vent on the roof the air movement should be improved and I would imagine that if you removed the lower cover that should also increase the air flow.
