RE: SMOKE DECTECTOR>>>>

The new sealed units with the lithium ion batteries are a nice way to go. No need to worry about putting fresh batteries in at the start of the season.
As someone "in the business" of fire protection, I'm very happy to see discussions on detection, as it reminds those that see the thread topic to get a working detector in their trailer. Remember the overall goal is for rapid notification of sleeping occupants to facilitate safe exit from the trailer. With the amount of plastics, foam, etc in trailers, fires spread a lot more rapidly than a fire in a building.....so exit quickly if faced with an actual emergency.

Rodent Free Winter!

Uncovered the Flagstaff today and found the interior to be mouse free! 1st time in 4 years! I think the mud dauber screens on the furnace vents kept them out! Very happy to say the least!
Oh, and I'm picking up the new TV on Mondsy - so its going to be a great season!

RE: Slide Toppers?

Had our dealer install. It's a Carefree. Very happy with it! I'm sure I could have done it myself but I get nervous drilling holes through the walls of the camper ; )

RE: Storage of WD bars

Do you guys lock up your propane tank, outside BBQ, stove, fishing gear, outboard motor, fish finder, boat, lawn chairs, ax, mail etc too?
Yes I lock my propane tanks and my bikes. Fishing gear goes in the transverse compartment. And no, I don't bring a boat / motor/ fish finder camping. The axe (hatchet) stays in the toolbox unless needed since (as i mentioned above) I don't need a 5 year old playing with it. The mail stays home. Soooooo to answer your question -- if you want to come steal my lawn chairs, you're more than welcome to them.
Hopefully this thread can have a little less nitpicking. For what it's worth -- i'd rather not have to purchase a hitch or WD bars while on vacation. I bought them once already. And I'm ok with putting them away in the underbelly compartment so I don't have to look at them all week.

RE: Storage of WD bars

Why would you guys store them inside the trailer? Do they get stolen where you go?
I just set them on the a-frame, or underneath it, wouldn't want to put them inside, I keep them well greased.
I have an 18 month old and a 5 year old. They'd find the grease. It's WAY easier to just prevent a problem before it starts!

RE: Storage of WD bars

Right side front pass through compartment. I have the original cardboard box that they came in. It's heavy duty....and I cut the top flap off so that I can just slide the bars in and let them sit there. I also store my hitch and towing mirrors on top of the WD bars. Obviously the greased end goes in first, but if you're careful the grease doesn't get all over the place.
BTW the reason you grease your WD bars is to actually reduce wear on the bars that is caused by friction. If you don't grease them where it is otherwise indicated, they will wear excessively and eventually fail. It doesn't need gobs of goo.....just a light coating of a decent grease. I clean my once a year and use the same grease that I use on my wheel bearings.

RE: Porta-Chef Pro Grill

Great info and just what I was looking for. I may just get the regular Porta-Chef instead of the pro. I'm kind of particular about cleaning it so there's no unnecessary food odor in the camper after our trip.
Thanks again for the reply!

Porta-Chef Pro Grill

We've decided that we can't stand the RVQ Grill that clips onto the side of our trailer. It's too much to have our toddler out of the camper and toddling around when the grill is on -- we're quite concerned about her getting too close to it and getting burned. As a result, we're looking at stand alone camp grills and I like the look an portability of the Porta-Chef Pro. I can't find any dimensions for the grill when it is disassembled, so I'm curious if anyone would take a quick measurement of theirs so I know if it will fit in our front compartment of the TT (the published dimensions are all with the legs attached). Also -- If anyone has some feedback on this grill -- especially ease of cleaning it, we'd love to hear some reviews.
Thanks!
