RE: Would like to thank the federalizes

I have come into contact with Federales on numerous trips through Mexico, raging from vehicle problems, road inspections, etc etc. I have had extensive talks with many of them about life, job, kids, etc. I have found them tremendously helpful and courteous.
Some other people's experiences with Federales may differ and that may fall under the inconsistencies of life.

RE: New pet regulations report

Crossed into Mexico last week with my three very obvious English Setters, and once again the Mexican border officials didn't even pay a nanosecond of attention to dog papers, certificates or pets foods. Had everything with me any way, in case they did.

RE: TIP permit needed for small towed 5x10 trailer?

Thanks. I do have registration, plates etc from WA state, so if they insist on separate TIP, guess they will tell me. Meantime I will play stupid.

TIP permit needed for small towed 5x10 trailer?

Tried to find a past subject on this, but couldn't. Anyone know if a permit needed to cross Mexico (on way to Belize) for a small 5ft x 10ft towed utility trailer?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Nogales to Belize via West Coast

I hear you say about Tampico, just did it 3 weeks ago. The entire Poza Rica-Tampico sector is a minefield.

RE: Nogales to Belize via West Coast

All fine suggestions.
I did take the Monterey to Mexico City 'toll' route last time (going south in March) and Arco Norte bypass (briansue), but the 'tope' East Coast (Poza Rica,Tampico, 180, etc) route going North in September, which was way faster and cheaper. I usually follow a semi through Tamaulipas as an unofficial 'escort'.
Mexbungalow, your route looks the sexiest, using Hwy 15 & 200 along the coast. Is this a good road, from Puerto Vallara to Zapatepec? Or does it have the usual 10,000+ topes along the way?
Map Quest stubbornly suggests the 'boring route' once again but says it is only 2676 miles; I guess I added the mileage all the way to Placencia, Belize (south Belize) in my calculations, thus the 3100 miles. Is that the same results you got drtee? I can drive this route with my eyes close, so that is a plus.
Have a few days to make a final decision, so don't hesitate to add more than your two cents.
Thanks in advance, Fred

Nogales to Belize via West Coast

All:
I have asked this question before, about the best route to Chetumal, Mexico via the West or East Coast. It has always been suggested going via the East Coast as the best route, since one stays in the US the longest and Mexico the shortest. It is a blessed bore all the way from Prescott, Arizona all the way to Brownsville, to say the least.
I HAVE done this route both ways 4 times in the last 5 years - from Prescott, Arizona all the way to Belize - 3100 miles exactly.
Anyone has a different opinion or advise taking the West Coast of Mexico OR an alternative route? I would like to take a different and shorter route this time. Visiting and experiencing Mexico is not the objective. Also I will be traveling 'light' and fast this time, no RV, truck and maybe small tow trailer.
Opinions (with reasons) most welcomed.

RE: R.V. type and size

The OP has mentioned on two posts that they plan on going down and staying in one or two spots and not really driving around too much.
In that case, to me, that suggests a unit (travel trailer)in the 25ft-29ft class (not a bear to drive) with 'tons' of slideouts (= comfort while there). What another poster also suggested (gtla9111). Class C is/may be also a good choice.
I have taken a 38ft, 34ft, 27ft RVs to Mexico and now have settle on a truck camper, only because I move around a lot and actually travel through Mexico and go all the way to Belize. But to me the ~smallest~ that will suit your level of required comfort - the better.
Good Luck.

RE: honda 3000

I have (2) H2000's and (1) H3000's. The H3000 is definitely quieter and stays quieter since it rarely has reason to go out of 'Eco Mode'. I take whichever I need (TC - H2000) or (trailer - H3000 which has a larger AC)
Weight is most definitely a factor, especially if one doesn't need anything more than a Honda 2000 and does indeed has to move the generator around. However, IF it wasn't for the weight factor, I would never use my H2000 over my H3000, since the difference in size is a moot point in my case.
