RE: 1995 Coachmen Catalina 285rk

We owned a 1993 Catalina RK 28.5 length fifthwheel and it was a pretty good unit. We towed it all over and we enjoyed it. Problems that we had with it was really leaks in front and back, problems with the slideout (batteries had to be fully charged plus getting it to slide out sometimes was a problem) and other than that just the usual upkeep. New tires, oxidation, wallpaper peeling off in the kitchen and bedroom. We had the unit for fifteen years and then when I was ready to retire DW and myself bought a new unit. Good mid/lower end unit.

RE: Is the Trailer Life camping guide only an ad seller?

Several years ago our family was coming home from Florida and decided to stay at a campground listed in the campground book that was rated as a ten. Turns out it was a field with water hookups and electricity. Since then I use it only as a reference guide...it was pointed out to me that campgrounds pay them goodly amounts of $$$$$$$$$$ to rate them. I just thought that they stayed there and rated them but it turns out that it may just be jaded. Moral of story is take their ratings with a grain of salt!

RE: How many trips do you average?

We try to go as much as possible. At least monthly but with fuel prices and wifes recovery from a heart attack this was put on hold. Now with her health back on track and her rehabilitation done we are trying to get back on track.

RE: Going from F250 to F350 - would you?

I would do it. We own a shortbed 01 7.3 Single wheel and the stability of using the dually would be the deal sealer. My question though is this going to be a daily driver also. How often will you pull your trailer? These questions I would ask myself first before making the deal. Just my two cents worth.

RE: Buccaneer State Park, Waveland, Ms

Spent a couple of weeks there with family before Katrina destroyed much of it. I am glad that it is rebounding nicely. Keep us updated.

RE: Excel Trailers must really be good.

I have a friend who retired and him and DW fulltimed in there Excel and couldn't say enough nice things about it. Spent the summer in the midwest and the winter in Arizona and then back to Texas in the spingtime with zero issues with the trailer.

RE: Who reads Trailer life mag?

I have subscribed off and on thru out the years. Sometimes I get frustrated because they only show case the high dollar units and nothing else. Lately it seems they have gotten better but only time will tell.

RE: Short bed guys (people), which slider do you like/use?

I have a Reese manuel slider. If I had the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ I would have purchased the superglide but alas my pocketbook couldn't afford it. Nothing wrong with the manuel slider but its just another step to get out and move the handle and then get back in the truck.

Silver Dollar city is alive and well along with the majority of the shows on the strip. As far as I can tell all most all of the campgrounds are open too.
