Prince of Wales Island

WE are van camping to Alaska again starting June 1. On the way back down thru in August, we plan to ferry hop down the marine highway with a stop at the Prince of Wales Island. We hope to get in some fishing there. Any suggestions??

RE: Maine to Danali questions

I did a quick analysis using the Good Sam trip routing feature from SE Mass to Anchorage. The time difference between the two was about 4 hours less thru Canada and the fuel cost difference was about $10 more thru Canada (the distance was about 350 miles less). I compared it to going thru Great Falls, MT We have the National Parks Senior pass so we can camp in the US National parks in the US at half price, so that would be cheaper. Check out the routing feature - maybe go out one way and back the other.

RE: Blackout curtains for looooong AK days?

The hardest part was having fun when you realized it was 11 pm and you hadn't made dinner yet. Sleep is easier when you are tired. Shades with Velcro around the edges worked good - kept the dog sleeping longer.

RE: Port Hardy to Prince Rupert ferry

We had a beautiful ride on the ferry - clear and sunny. There is an RV park a mile or two from the end of the ride that stays open to receive people from the ferry - a good ride.

RE: SPAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For a nice snack if you have a camper with an oven, make some "pig newtons". Take Spam and slice it into the size of the filling in a fig newton, wrap each piece with Pillsbury Crescent roll dough and stick under a broiler until it is done. Some fun with Spam starts with making up a name, like Spamichangas - then make a recipe to go with it. We made some smoked Spamon - was real good.
